I had the opposite experience. 75 hard broad side double lung shot with winchester deer season xp. Zero blood trail, and trotted about 50 yards stopped and looked around like nothing hit him. Shot again he ran again then fell and died. First shot being a double lung he shouldn't have trotted like nothing happened and didn't bleed a drop. Swapped this year to 257 weatherby magnum. Same distance same broadside shot, and a double lung. Not even a twitch of the tail from that deer. I'll be sticking with the weatherby. Nothing hits harder than a weatherby.

By that logic, 243, 25-06, 260, 270, 7mm-08 and any other popular centerfire rifle cartridge is unnecessary too. They all hit their target accurately and they all kill deer. The 6.5cm was designed to be a great long range target round for the precision guys. Just so happens that a .264 bullet also is very sufficient for hunting game. It doesn’t kill “better” or worse than any other round. Nobody ever said it did. The adoration is just that its very accurate, light recoiling, AND kills just as good thus making it a popular cartridge for good reason. People really get bent for silly reasons. Just take the cartridge at face value. Nobody is saying its going to replace all other bullets. Just that it checks a lot of boxes for a lot of different people. Simple really.

Over the las 7 years I’ve used 129 gn Hornady SST 11 hogs and 129 gn Hornady InterLock on Red Deer at between 110 and 160 yards with no problems. With most ammunition it is about shot placement. I started hunting with Winchester 270 in 130 gn bullets, but after shoulder replacement, the recoil was just too much. The 6.5 Creedmoor was a better choice for me with less recoil.

I’m perplexed. I grew up in Montanan shooting a 22-250 for mule deer and antelope. Never had any trouble knocking game down. Came to Texas and shot hogs and little whitetail. My college roommate from Colorado shot several elk with a 243. This seems small to me but the shots were less than 200 yards. Personally I’ve only shot one elk and that was with a 7mm at 412 yards. I was glad I had that calibre. Bottom line is if you shoot well and shoot at a reasonable distance game goes down. The 6.5 CM is more than enough to handle deer, antelope, hogs…etc. with proper shot placement at proper distances.

I didn't have good luck with the 6.5cm ELD-X. Poor blood trails, deer/hogs ran long distances. S&B soft points are awesome! Hits hard, good blood trails but none so far ran more than 20 yards. I don't think a premium bullet is necessary with the velocity of the 6.5CM. I got 2 nice bucks last season and 12 hogs this spring and summer who were destroying my soy beans. I usually shoot 250 yards or less. I have wasted much $$$ on these hot shot super bullets and just for deer and hogs I just don't need them. I think they are best for magnums. If I was hunting long range or large game definitely. I shoot 6.5CM, 308, 30/06 with the 6.5 more than anything else. Don't over think it, just use a good soft point bullet with low velocity rounds for small to medium game. I am just a 68yo farmer who has taken countless game animals over the years. Deer were running so far I began targeting the brachial plexus for every shot (not a bad strategy regardless of caliber, but here it was a necessity). I've shot the 143gr ELDX pretty extensively on whitetail and have been less than impressed. You can tout BC all day long but unless you're after retained energy at extended ranges, of what use is it at "normal" range. So, my MV out of a 24" Rem 5R is only 2560fps. Speed kills and I would call it lackingly disappointing. I only remember having 1 bang/flop on a whitetail out of at least 2 dozen well shot deer. Most of the time, they'll run at least 40yds, sometimeswith very little blood trail. Just not very impressive at normal distances but I feel it has a niche for 300 yds plus. My go to is 257wby. I guess everything seems lacking after using the hand of god,lol! 3300fps with very little recoil. 115 gr bullets. Must reload to afford it and you dont plink with it. Flattens deer
@craigsellier59732 күн бұрын
One is better to go with a lighter bullet say the 120 gr. Because it pushes over 2700 fps and that's what you need for that complete pass through and a exit hole big enough it pumps blood out for a blood trail. Try the lighter copper loads and see what I'm talking about.

I can say this...I shot a blacktail deer just behind the shoulder. The deer wheeled and ran back into the woods seemingly unhindered. At the site there was no blood...no hair no sign of impact at all. The deer went 90 yards with no blood on the ground. I've not had this happen with any other caliber and I've hunted with many. I still love the caliber for accuracy and for the low recoil but not my favorite for hunting country where it's thick and precipitation is imminent. To each their own but I will stick with my .300 win mag...it's never failed me. I will hunt pronghorn with my 6.5 in open country

I have serious issues with the 140 eld match. I love it, except for it not exiting deer. No matter where or how far it does the most damage I've ever seen but I want a round to exit. I wonder how this one does tho

I used the match ammo and shot a hog and it ran off and I never found it, it is good for sat Lagoon in or practicing you know but I do shoot the Barnes Blue tip in My 7 Mag and blows massive holes so I just have to stumble up on a box for the 6.5 Creedmoor and the next hog a shot fell in his tracks in the shot it behind the shoulder so if you could find some Barnes blue tip Vortex that's does really well

@@duckruchter6274 I have a few boxes of freedom munitions hollow point 140 and it does actually really well . Shot through a deer at 200 and went about 20 yards. They also shoot the most accurate ive tried. The match do extreme damage and everything does within 20 yards or in their tracks. I just don't like the no pass through. I hear the 120 superformance Hornaday does well

Go to the lighter 120 grn bullet in a copper and it'll push over 2700 fps and I guarantee pass through everytime and they will pump oil out if you hit their sweet spot. Gotta get that harder bullet that doesn't explode on impact and gotta push those rounds over the 2700 fps mark and you will love the job they do.

This video was pretty vague. You could’ve at least recommended a few different bullets for Whitetail as an example. For hunting. Seeing the post says Whitetail in it. Like maybe federal power shock 140 gr SP or something like that.

I wouldnt say it's a bad round but I wouldn't own one. I know people have taken deer as small as 9 mm from 30 yard broadside shot and no they didn't run into problems there is videos of it on KZbin. I know in fact lots videos. I will know get back to 6.5 people have taken elk with it. I don't know why that's surprising I know people have taken elk with 357 magnum. I am pretty sure 6.5 has more power then 357 magnum and I know it has more range a well placed shot of course it can take elk. I know though in grizzley and moose areas it's not the best to use 6.5 there is videos people using it having to hit moose 5 times in chest to drop it. I am not against 6.5 I just wouldn't buy one.

At the end I think you hit the proverbial nail on the head. You have to hit it where it counts. Growing up on a ranch we had some hunters come out to hunt. At that time you weren't a hunter unless you had a 7MM Mag. I can't tell you how many times the animal suffered with gut shots and others. I had a little .17 Remington. I decided to hunt one year and use it. Not really legal but I had 5 guys with me that had the infamous 7MM Mag that could finish the job if I failed. I took my shot, it jumped twice and fell about 10' from where I hit it. Didn't even flinch when it hit. Absolutely no meat loss and no suffering - with a gun that wasn't supposed to be big enough to succeed.
@chuckblankenship7482 жыл бұрын
I have owned shot and reloaded for the this round and walked away from it. I can do with my 7MM-08 ANYTHING AND I MEAN ANYTHING that the Needsmore can do. I have seen these two rounds compared numerous times and it is always compared with the same weight bullets which is very unfair and miss leading. It is always 140gr to 140gr not taking into account that a 6.5 bullet at 140gr has a way higher BC that a 7mm 140gr bullet. Take them both to heavy for caliber bullets ie 142gr 6.5 and a 162gr 7mm bullet and I would and do choose the 7MM-08 hands down as the better round.

since most hunters are lucky to take one deer at less than 400 yards, id say for the vast majority of hunters its the perfect round. in fact, for just deer, i would step down to the grendel, which somehow is an undisputed deer killer with a lighter bullet at less velocity.

There’s nothing, terminally, that the creedmoore can do that the 270 Winchester doesn’t do better and more effectively. The creed was designed for paper. Will it work for deer? Absolutely. Is it the smartest idea? Nope.
