Bought a 6.5 in 2021 following shoulder replacement surgery. I needed a lighter recoil option and purchased the 6.5 in a Tikka T3X. Using Remington Core-lokt ammo I found the rifle easily satisfying my need for accuracy and recoil. Hunting in NW PA on the 2nd week of deer season I had the opportunity to verify if the 6.5 was sufficiently lethal. I took a mature 10 point at 90 yds and he dropped in his tracks. I’m very satisfied with the cartridge performance.
@guyminer3168 Жыл бұрын
Excellent! After shoulder surgery I hunted mostly with my 25-06 for a couple of years. The 6.5 Creedmoor seems similar to me, a little more bullet, a little less velocity. Glad the Creedmoor worked out well for you and congrats on the buck!

The timing of this video couldn’t be any better. About a year ago I started really following UR videos and got into reloading myself thanks to you. By chance I drew a leftover WY cow/calf tag and decided to work up a 6.5cm load and hunt for the first time with a load I worked up. Happy to report that two nights ago I got a shot on a nice cow elk and it absolutely drilled her at 307 yards. I was honestly surprised how well that round did. Shot placement was spot on and just wrecked the vitals. Work up is 143 gr eld-x, 43.5 gr 6.5 staball which got me 2725 fps out of a bergara B14 ridge. It was the perfect amount of energy. My buddy shot one too with his 300 win mag, and his shot was a little bit forward and just obliterated both front shoulders and turned a lot of meat into mush. I honestly couldn’t be more pleased the way that 6.5 performed. My only complaint isn’t the round itself, it’s the combo of changing it over to a chassi system and using the AICS mags. If the round isn’t all the way seated back into the mag the tip of the long 6.5 bullet catches under the feed ramp on the bergara. I’ve also had issues with the extraction of spent brass, something in the action is causing a pretty deep scratch on the fired cases. So I still have work to do to get things dialed in but man, I can’t say enough how the 6.5 performed for me. Thanks again to UR, this has been a fun adventure into reloading.

I just purchased a Bergara B14 Hunter in 6.5 CM. (I wanted something with less recoil so I decided on the 6.5 CM.). I come from the wood stock era so the polymer stock was something I haven't been fond of. As it turns out, it's awesome; rubberized, easy to grip. I love this gun! Great video, Guy. Handloaded Varget and Fiocchi LRP in Aguila brass to push a 129gr Hornady SST to an estimated 2700 fps (no chrono) from my my CVA Cascade using a Vortex Diamondback Tactical scope. At 296 yd, the pronghorn fell on top of the deep hoof prints he made when impacted. I was satisfied.

I've been shooting my 6.5 CM with a 22" barrel for about 10 years. I've had really good results with the 130 Berger and Rl17. My recent check over a 10 shot string showed an average velocity of 2840 with an SD of 10. Most of my shooting is done between 30 and 70 degrees and haven't really had any issues due to temps. My velocity stays pretty stable and my groups are typically between 1/2 - 3/4 moa. Unless I've had too much coffee..😂 Great video, hope your hunts are productive and memorable.

Hey Guy, for my Brother's first rifle we got him a similar set up. He bought a Christiansen Arms Mesa and topped it with a Leupold 3-12 with the CDS dial. Great shooting rifle. We tried Sierra's Gameking 140 and they didn't group as well as the Hornady 143 ELD-X so we selected the Hornady and loaded it with H4350. He shoots groups less than an inch almost every time it goes to the range. So far he has shot a Pronghorn (jumped up less than 50 yards in front of us) and it was very effective. Our elk hunts the last few years have turned into walkabouts so nothing bigger but no hesitation to use it on bigger stuff. It shoots quite a bit milder than the 30-06 and the 270win. With a rangefinder the advantage of flat shooting cartridges is becoming limited

After my buddy (dude was in 82nd airborne - aka badass!) shot my Ruger Precision Rifle gen2 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, he had to have it! So he got a Tikka chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor (I can't recall what model, possibly the T3x?) and loved it. He went hunting and got a buck at about 100 yards with off the shelf hunting ammo, one shot. For target shooting I used to shoot Hornady ELD's and hand loads that a veteran / retired LEO buddy of mine loaded for me. Cannot recall the specs, but we got it dialed in somewhere around 139-149 grains, I think? I could be way off. Anyway at 600 yards I had good days and bad, but a good day would be fist sized groups, or about 5MOA? I miss that rifle and all my past firearms. Had to sell when finances got tight and I needed to provide. Aim true and take care.

I live in plain flat Texas. the hogs get jumpy after you have shot a few of them. so sometimes they stay a long ways out! my 6.5cm bolt gun is my ticket out to some of those ranges. it helps with accuracy practice, and helps because the targets are smaller and smaller(after we tear up the big ones that do all the damage).

I was late to the 6.5Cm party also always being a 270 fan. I was shamed into it by my son and his wife one year, I took a doe and a 8 point and both were bang-flop. My Savage 270 also worked very well and shot to 3/4moa but after a torn rotator cuff I needed something lighter. I was so impressed with it a used bull barrel Savage 12FV found it's way to me and I started load development. Long story short that rifle with my blueprinted 140gr handloads was posting 1/3moa, never saw that with any factory 308. Now if I'm in the fields my 270 is with me but If I'm out on a friends farm that 12FV with a 6x24x50 Vortex is glassing along the hedgerows and taking deer at ranges I would have thought unethical in years past, ranges that I hunt woodchucks at with my 22/250 and DRT performance is the norm with high shoulder shots. I just bought a Howa 1500 Hera H7 in 6.5Cm and put a Riton 3 Conquer 6-24×50 on it. Out of the box after break in and zeroing with my 130gr, Win748 plinkers it matched my Savage. I just picked up some 90gr TN'T's for chucks, I'll do more load development over the winter and hope to tighten my groups a little more and hit the fields. Yup, I'm a convert. By the way, all my loading is off a RCBS Rock Chucker ll I bought in 1976. Unknown thousands of rounds thru it and still tight as when I bought it after 30 years of National Match competition and loading for a shooting family.

Great video. I purchased a Tikka T3x with a 24 inch barrel with a break. It was a Cabela's special with a camo stock and cerakote bronze coating. I put a Vortex light weight hunter 3 x 15 scope on it. Tikka's are known for being long throated and it took some effort to find the distance to the lands. I use a Berger VLD Hunter 140 grain bullet. I did a number of test loads and the one I like best is Superformance 48 grains (it is hotter than recommended that's why I load them long). I hand load and use an RCBS Rock Chucker press. I make the loads longer than standard and it gives me the room I need for the powder and it still fits my magazine and works well. I chronograph my bullets and they are going just over 3200 fps so it 's almost like shooting a 6.5 PRC. It is very accurate .25 MOA at 100 yards. I shot a bull elk this year at 230 yards with one shot. The elk just stood there for a few seconds and then started to walk away. He took two or three steps and fell over. Both the entrance hole and the exit hole were pretty small. When we opened him up there was massive damage to the heart and lungs. I hit it right where I aimed , right behind the front leg and low. It was a broad side shot slightly up hill. I don't think I will try shooting an elk out past 3 or 4 hundred yards. My grandson shot his first bull about ten minutes before I shot mine. It was a great hunt. My 6.5 Creedmoor is a pleasure to shoot and I look forward to using it for many hunts to come. Thanks again for the video.

My shoots range from 50 to 175 yards and all have been one shot kills. Yes I love my creed . The two big advantages are accuracy and the recoil. I know the 06 is not what you would call a heavy hitter in the recoil department , but compared to the creed it is and at my age that is a big plus for me. Welcome to the family. I have been hunting with the creedmoor since the early 2000's. It's called the 6.5x55.

Lol lots of people don't realize the 6.5 is nothing new. Nor do they know what Creedmore is

Oh here we go . You 6.5 sweed guys are the new 6.5 cm guys when it comes to being annoying 😂

@@Paul-q3m7k Just got my first CM. Everyone says it's so light recoiling. I don't think it is. Pretty stout for that little cartridge. And I shoot my 300Rum alot so I'm no stranger to getting whopped lol

Hey guys, so with the creedmore doing so well why isn't the parent case 30TC getting as much attention? Why no comeback from the 30TC?

Great video! 6.5 creed is not my preferred flavor, but it was a great breakdown of the system

Buenos días, yo cazo en España con el 6.5 creedmoor y puntas sierra TGK en 130g a ciervo y jabalí, son espectaculares, la punta es demoledora y muy muy precisa

My Spanish is poor, but I understand. I'm glad that you've had success with the 130 grain Sierra TGK. I shall try lighter bullets like that!

How kind of RCBS to assemble your Summit correctly- many of us got Summits that had the top bolts in backwards (nylocks on the outside). It runs so nice correctly assembled and I LOVE my Summit. (I like my MEC even more, but the Summit is a great press-I’m so thankful to have both.).

The rings look like they're very high for this. Wouldnt it be better to have ring that get the scope lower to the barrel?
@Hammerback0 Жыл бұрын
Want to learn to reload for my 6.5 Creedmoor, likely buy items as funds become available, the RCBS Supreme die set is affordable enough at 71 bucks. Thanks for the info.

I was reluctant to get on the 6.5CM band wagon also. In 2021 I won a pistol at a gun bash and had no use for another carry pistol in a caliber that I didnt have. I traded it up for store credit and chose a Bergara B14 Ridge Wilderness in 6.5 CM. Installed a 4x16x44 Riton scope. I have been buying up factory loads in various weights. It shoots MOA @100 with a number of different ones.. Havent had a chance to take it out in the field yet. I cant bring myself to leave my walnut stocked Rugers, Winchesters, and Remingtons at home, Haha. I am thinking a well constructed monometal or bonded 120 - 130 gr at 2900 -2800 fps might produce a more dramatic result on whitetail sized game at normal hunting distances. What thinks you?
@guyminer3168 Жыл бұрын
I think that's quite likely. Those all-copper bullets and bonded bullets tend to stay together very well even at high impact velocity.

what is the sectional density for the gamekings? that is one of the most important numbers for taking an animal.

Ballistically, the 6.5 is a 270. Both are really good cartridges.
@guyminer3168 Жыл бұрын
Ya, no flies on the good ol' 270 Win, that is a classic and popular deer cartridge for a reason. 130 gr bullets at 3100 fps and what I feel is pretty mild recoil. I used to think of the 270 as a deer cartridge and was impressed with the number of elk & bear hunters who have been enjoying great success with it for a long time. I don't have one, but perhaps I ought to get one and do a story... Sort of have it surrounded with the 25-06 & 30-06 though...
@CplSkiUSMC Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use 6.5CM for anything bigger than mule deer, but for mulies and anything smaller I think it's fine. I typically use .308 Win but I do have a 6.5CM that I have taken out (although I haven't scored with it). I want to replace my 22" barrel with a 26" for better velocities. In my thinking, a 26" barrel is a sweet spot for the majority of medium and large caliber cartridges. Everyone these days is flocking to the little shorty short barrels and I say do what you want, but I'll take those long barrels any day... I like shooting distance and that makes velocity important. It also extends your hunting range if you're not afraid to hump around a little extra weight.

I love my Forbes 25-06...but past 300 yards the 6.5 Creedmoor hits harder due to the much better bc. With laser range finders making longer range hits no longer depends on blazing bullet speed.

Little late to the party. Just got my 6th west side blacktail with the 6.5 creed, I think one took two steps, the rest just fell over. Also dropped a cougar at 40 yards, came in on a run to coyote pup distress mouth call

Ive got 5 different 6.5 creedmoors. From a 14" single shot pistol to 24" carbon fiber barreled chassis precision rifle. Ive taken a dozen whitetail with 3 of them and they work fine. Probably no better or worse than the dozen other cartridges on either side of it in similar capacity and bullet diameter. The creedmoor shines in the availability in quality components, consistancy in chambers designed for bullets on the heavy side, and barrel life. My match rounds shoot great in the shorter barreled hunting rifles and my hunting round shoot great in my match rifle. My favorite hunting rifle is a $300 compact tc compass with 16" barrel. Suppressed its shorter than a 24" rifle, is very accurate, and very handy.

I need to try the 165 tipped gamekings. The 150gr game changed shoot much better in my encore than the hornady SSTs I usually use. I’m using SW Precision and it shot better compared to Varget.

Yes, you can get 6.5 Creedmoor brass with small primer pockets if you'd prefer that.

Took me awhile to fall for the CM hype. Its definitely is not the end all be all cartridge but man is it fun to shoot! My preferred combo is with the 127gr Barnes LRX. Both handloads and the factory ammo shoot consistent 1/2 MOA out of my Ruger magpul hunter american 20". Man does that Barnes just hammer through everything. Its my new "Old Faithful".....although now im playing around with the 6.5PRC.
@phild9813 Жыл бұрын
I just started with the creedmoor last year and settled on the 127 LRX as well. Factory ammo is well under MOA out of a compact Ruger American with a 20” barrel. The rifle is just OK, but it shoots so dang good I can’t resist it.

I have a 120gr Hornady CX load that I made for my son's Moose hunt. It runs about 2950fps. I have used that same load for whitetail and it has worked well out to 300 yards so far. Breaks bones and always passes through.
@guyminer3168 Жыл бұрын
Am glad to know that the CX performed well on deer for you! I've shot CX bullets into the gel blocks to test expansion & penetration, but haven't yet taken game with them.

Nice review Guy but I still don’t see a 6.5 Creedmoor in my future as I like to see at least 3000 FPS and above average BC bullet to have a flatter trajectory. Like you Guy for Deer and Antelope your Remington 700 BDL 6mm Rem is a 400 yard gun. Speaking of that I need to get mine out on another trip. TC
