I have a 6.5 diesel in my 58 Chevy Delray, linked to a 700R4 gearbox and I’m getting plus 30 miles to the gallon! We tow a 26 ft caravan to shows and get around 22 miles per gallon. Great engine , very simple and reliable 👍👍

You are not measuring something correctly. There is no way you are getting 30 or 22 with that rig. I have owned over 20 of 6.5 Turbos in Suburbans and trucks. I have never gotten more then 14 MPG on a Suburban. And 12 in crew cab pickup.

Hello, just found your channel and subbed. My dad has a 96 with the 6.5. Its just sitting for almost a year. The injection pump is going bad. I got another lined up so all this info will hopefully help with his fuel milage. Were the 3rd owners now. The original owner used to tow. 5th wheel. Then he passed away and the truck went to the grandson, who sold it to pay on his mortgage. He was pretty sad to see it leave.

I have a 1999 Chevy K2500 with a 6.5 Detroit diesel with an automatic and the base engine is stock. I get around 20 MPG highway. I’ve done the normal things to improve reliability like relocate the PMD and put a heatsink on it, upgraded the oil cooler lines and the weak lift pump. I don’t know what rear gear I have but I am hovering at 2,600 rpm at 70 MPH. And I honestly feel like it should’ve had another overdrive gear to lower the rpm’s and increase mpg. I thought about installing a gear venders overdrive so I could get even better fuel economy but the cost of the gearbox would outweigh the cost of fuel savings.
@mortarman2318 ай бұрын
Wow! My doing 14 mpg.. but i know that my lift pump is dead, ordered a new one
@hummerguy8 ай бұрын
The 6l80e or 6l90e maybe a better option than gear vendors, I sit at about the same RPM as you with my 4l80e. The 4l80e has a overdrive of .75, the 6l90e has a .67 ratio. My RPMs would be around 2000RPMs at 70 with the 6l90e

The reason they say not to change the tran fluid because it will so say make the transmission go out but what it really is is if its not charged regular then when u change it the grit in the fluid is the only thing holding the clutches together so yes change fluid nothing is forever

I got a 6inch lift 3” body RCSB dually, 4l80e, 4:10 Detroit locker 35s, quadstar 8 set running hx35 hood stack and literally everything is new and I only get 12mpg in freeway. Truck only weight 5,800
@JessePelkey111 ай бұрын
By everything being new, does that have any regards to the fuel system? A few things to keep in mind, even though your truck only weighs 5,800lbs, being a dually, 35" on top of that, your rolling resistance or footprint on the road is a significant factor to consider. As well as drag, the lift kit is comparable to mine yes, however you also increased the amount of wind drag on your truck by installing the 3" body lift. I'm going to assume here that you also have a dually bed with the flairs to cover the tires, making the truck even less aerodynamic. TDC offset, if that is not were it needs to be as desired you will loose fuel economy, RPM and speed play a factor. There are a lot of things to consider regarding fuel efficiency.

Wow I have a 95 GMC with a 6.5 NA which means shesa don'ta hava turbo I'm sure you know and when I brought it home from Wisconsin 10 yrs. ago it only managed about 19 mpg and this is only a 2 wheel drive half ton. I stuck it in the garage when I got home and that's where she's sat for the last 10 years (don't ask) . I'm gonna put a non EGR manifold on it with some kind of a better air cleaner if that possible it had a factory car type aircleaner I might even take the air pump off. I think I remember back when I was working on it I noticed the crossover pipe was a tad flat on the bottom the truck sits pretty low in the front it use to be a Virginia state truck so I would imagine they ran over anything that got in their way I might change that probably wouldn't be worth the expense to do anymore to the exhaust. I'm doing the Feed the Beast to it probably don't need it but its getting done anyway since I have all the parts already.

Definitely will contribute to the poor fuel milage. There can also be other contributing factors but missing the mass air flow sensor certainly does not help with the mpg's.

I have a question, when I turn the key my WTS glow plug light doesn't come on ?Do you know what's wrong?
@JessePelkey14 жыл бұрын
First I would check to make sure the bulb is good behind the gauge cluster, then make sure all of my battery cables are tight on both ends (batteries, engine block and frame) then I would see if I hear the glow plug solenoid is actually cycling. If you dont hear it cycling then solenoid could very well be bad.
