6'7" Man's Peaceful Tiny House Life in Alaska

Kevin's tiny house life in Alaska is centered around his 3 loves--nature, music, and teaching. He built his tall-man friendly THOW in collaboration with Bartlett High School. His tiny home is very much in the style of historic Alaskan dry cabin, but road-worthy, with a fold-down awning and removable porch. It's 15' tall, the max road-legal height in Alaska.
His tiny home is nestled in a gorgeous mountain landscape with superb wildlife watching opportunities. Kevin relishes the intimate connection he feels with his surroundings, largely thanks to the many windows in his small space.
Kevin ultimately plans to build a small house, 800-1000 sqft, on his property. For now, he loves peaceful, simple living in his rustic tiny house on wheels.
Tiny house notes: he does have a small sink, and he uses an outhouse.

I simply adored what I just saw. A happy and rather charming man, (very happy man indeed...) An incredible tiny house (in a messy, and very relaxing style....) A happy bear (very happy bear...) And the breathtakingly beautiful nature one can dream of. No pollution, no traffic jam, no dirty streets, only lacs, majestic mountains, and an infinite blue sky. This is what I call ultimate, peaceful life.

I like that this man is comfortable in his own skin and relishes the wildlife and scenery. Musical talent is great and he gets to do what makes him happy. The tiny was definitely a bachelor pad but it was lived in and appreciated for what it was. I imagine he either toilets in a separate unit or out in nature. I hope he enjoys good health and achieves his ambitions. Am British but visited Alaska back in July 1995. Just being there felt strange. More boats and planes than cars. The roads suddenly just end. Daylight in the summer til midnight. It was an energising place to be, like you got 2 lots of daytime every day. I wonder how this gentleman manages in winter?

And whenever I hear about people who live in Alaska I think about the yearly check each resident gets which is such a nice bonus to live in such a beautiful area of the United States. Lmao. It’s not gonna last. Government has started stealing our dividend to cover their lack of financial responsibility. It’s a dividend from oil tax money from a fund started in the 70s. It’s not even that much when you consider cost of living here. My gas and electric bill for one month costs more than the dividend check we get each year.

Lovely place, lovely guy. I like the awning/porchidea, and might do something similar with mine. Mine is also corrugated clear polycarbonate and I'm also worried about the wind, living in a bit of a wind tunnel (bottleneck in a steep valley). Every winter I wonder if the porch roof will fly off, but it doesn't. It just rattels ominously. What I have discovered about it is that the plastic, due to its corrugation, is quite elastic, as I only screwed it down every foot or so. The stretching seems to take the wind out of the wind, so to speak. But such a roof hinge would give me a bit of extra peace of mind. I like that he went out to buy an electric fence when the bear attacked his freezer. Most would have said they went out to buy a gun. Many problems are solved with nothing more than a barrier.

Anchorage was a nice place to live for a while. You have a small piece of paradise there, al though you live such a happy and cozy life that way, my advise is to put away (or organize) the things you don't use the most to allow the Qi (Chi) to flows freely through the tiny house and regenerate the energy and health of your space. Back in the 70's I used to hitch hike probably much less than you did back then but really loved it. I have been drafting up ideas for an awning for my little shed in eastern Idaho and settled on one like in this video..I get Grizzly Bears as well and would be nice to swing the awning down when I leave so they don't push the door in..it also allows me to keep it at 200Ft keeping me clear of regulations for oversized self builds...this is the first video I've seen showing me what it should look like and how it will handle the elements like wind..great video

I hear you about the taller cabinets, and I'm only 6'1". So when I renovated the fixer upper I bought, I installed both the kitchen and bathroom counters to be taller than usual, if I let short people in, they can get a ladder....lolz.

Very typical for tiny house people. Their tiny houses are more like bedrooms and mini offices or hang out spots and they rely on public facilites or gyms or friends and family with houses for all the other stuff.

@@bk4of4 There is a KZbin video about a Swedish couple who encased a larger vacation cottage in a greenhouse. (Since it was built to be a vacation cottage, it had no insulation and it was cheap to buy.). Reduced their heating costs and allowed them to grow lots of fruits and vegetables all year long. Seems like a no-brainer to me..
