bitchin truck! very clean. reverse gear doesn't have a synchro so when you press the clutch and immediately shift to reverse, your going to grind. if you press the clutch, wait a few seconds for the transmissions input shaft to spin to a stop, THEN shift into reverse, you won't grind cause nothing is moving at that time. fast idi dude. badass

Nice truck, thanx for sharing the video. I'm researching the 6.9, Never owning a diesel I stumbled on an '87 4x4 standard cab 3/4 ton w/6.9, 5 spd, Non turbo'd and I'd like to know if I can add a turbo? What else needs to be changed? This one owner truck has 119,000 miles on it. What kind of horse power gain could I expect considering the non turbo 6.9 produces 170 hp and 310fp torque. Back to your truck, very nice ride. Did you get your tach fixed? I put a new cable in mine and it did the same thing, but was able to fix it by trimming about a quarter inch of the cable off. There was to much friction at the washer/clip for the plastic gear. If you take it out, feel if the plastic gear spins freely or if it seems to stick. Also, don't use a pair of wire cutters to cut the cable, I almost ruined mine that way. I used an air powered cutting wheel .

You can't run high boost on these IDIs. Reason is because they were designed to be naturally aspirated so the compression ratio is 22:1 so you can't run much boost at all
@heinz_beanz63393 жыл бұрын
Yea but I would imagine people run thicker gaskets and deeper bowl ramps under the pre cap to get a lower compression ratio.

These old engines can make 300hp but youve gotta really spend the $ to get em built right. Btw, all the old 4 speeds and even the ZF-5's like to grind when you throw them directly into gear like that. Even the new 6 speeds shift into Low or Reverse alot smoother if you shift into second gear before hand.... In case you still have the vise grips on there, they make a 3" pair, they'd take up less space.

@KLX199012 жыл бұрын
try throwing it in first then sliding to reverse whenever you back up, somebody told me to do that with those t18/t19's to stop it from grinding and it worked. also the speedo hop might be because the gear is loose in the transfer case, thats what happened to mine and the clip that held it in broke on me, whenever i'd hit a nice sized bump the fucking thing would slide out and i'd lose my speedo lol.
@jimmyhill98438 жыл бұрын
