If you did not know. The 7.3 IDIT internals are different from the 7.3 IDI. The block is thicker. The pistons are stronger with larger wrist pins and the rods are stouter on the IDIT. The rings on the IDIT are Full Keystone #1 and #2 vs rectangular #1 and taper faced #2 on the IDI The injectors are different. The oil cooler is bigger. The oil pump is bigger

I've torn down probably 30 of these some of what you say is right. Block is nearly identical with a couple minor differences , pistons were aluminum just like the na ones and were not ceramic coated, the rods were forged just the same as na but yes they did have larger wrist pins, the injectors were supposed to be improved but outta the performance companies I've spoke with hypermax and r+d the difference is negligible. The oil pump was the same but yes the oil cooler had additional cooling fins on the idit. The injection pump was rated at a higher cc thou

service intervals for these is technically around 200k so you could but your gambling on 20-30yr old gaskets unless prior work has been done. Lots of people have turboed past that point without issue but others have very quickly popped a headgasket after. Of course that could also be due to the driver lol. I think hypermax recommended at minimum a retorque check of the head bolts upon a fresh installation on an older engine.

if I'm not mistaken the turbo motors have lower compression cylinders then the none turbo, so if you put a turbo on a none turbo engine you need to adjust your turbo waste valve or pay the price of blown head gaskets or cracked heads just FYI i learn the hard way
@groundtogreen11408 жыл бұрын
if there was a difference in compression it's very minimal. Many people have safely turboed naturally aspirated Motors without any issues of cracking heads or head gasket failure especially running off a stock naturally aspirated injection pump. my current motor has a non wastegated hypermax kit stock fuel settings I've ran her hours and hours of driving never had an issue. another guy I know is running a 6.9 with the factory turbo kit with no issues in over a year and the 6.9 has smaller head bolts so it's actually more prone to blow a head gasket than the 7.3
@GoldStarBakery886 жыл бұрын
you put turbo on a good good ole 7.3 N/A idi and didnt bother with even a 5 min google check? i can tell you off hand the idi 7.3 N/A has about 21 to 1 and the turbo version has 17 to 1... its quite a bit more than "minimal"...also engine parts differ between the two..

@robertowen20216 жыл бұрын
The powerstroke has a lower compression ratio, people confuse the powerstroke with a 7.3 idit, they are totally different. The only thing they share is displacement. The powerstroke is a direct injection engine, the idit is still indirect injection and needs the high compression ratio in order to start easily

You may have a clogged oil line or something but you could get a factory exhaust manifolds to put on it then a factory air cleaner,factory exhaust peaces turn your injection pump down cap the oil lines for the turbo were they come out of the engine won't be cheap if your any good at fabrication you could make a peace of pipe for the hot side of the turbo to take it's place personally I would figure out why it's eating turbos good luck

For ex I maxed out my ip for the hypermax kit and couldn't get much above 10lbs yet with my factory kit I haven't touched my fuel and I can hit 7 at stock calibration. @@groundtogreen1140 I figured that. They are quite helpful and informative. Im mapping out a turbo build on mine, im going to alter a powerstroke y pipe to send both exhaust manifolds into the y. The problem is fitment. When I finally break ground on it Im going to document it. Ill be sure to share it with you. I am greatful for the vids. I had air coming in, never took notice to the return line on my filter housing. Deleted it and haven't had a problem since.

I'm new to diesels and of course I have an issue. I have an 86 f250 6.9 with banks turbo. there is an oil leak under the turbo some where. I lost about 2 quarts of oil in 2 weeks. the oil is leaking down the back of the engine and on to the bell housing on the driver's side. before I start taking stuff apart is there any issues with taking the turbo off to see where the issues is then putting it back on? would you have any idea what is leaking?

there's a feed line and drain line for the turbo charger. I'm not as familiar with banks but on most they have a square cut o ring in the feed line that likes to leak over time. I'd start there and also verify your back valley isn't full of oil . If it is you might have to punch the valley pan. I had to do so on my hypermax turboed na motor

Mike Grn I'll be checking it this weekend. I'll upload a video and see what I find. would it be ok if I took the turbo off so I can see what is leaking?

Banks still has a sidewinder kit.
@groundtogreen11407 жыл бұрын
the sidewinder kits that are listed on eBay are just old stock nothing new is produced

Honestly I just can't justify putting the money into putting a turbo kit on an idi, unless you can snag one off another idi. Otherwise you're just better off spending the money on buying an OBS Powerstroke. Engine mounts and transmission bolt pattern are the exact same, so it's literally a drop in swap and you get WAY more out of it.
@groundtogreen11404 жыл бұрын
not really once you factor in all the wiring and modules. and if left stock it's not much of a power difference vs an idit. Most of us who upgrade these know it won't be the biggest baddest truck on yhe block but it doesn't have to be either

You can get entire Banks turbo kit NEW online... Hypermax is a waste of money and the worst product you could buy!
@groundtogreen11407 жыл бұрын
william eldridge banks kits available are simply old stock kits and I'll never own one because if you have to rebuild it you're screwed they don't support their kits anymore hypermax isn't the worst but better than na. If I were to buy new I'd buy through R+D IDI performance his more modern kits blow both outta the water.
