The only thing the U.S. version got right about it is the German name, as the Bohemian beer tradition took-off when the locals hired a German braumeister to setup a brauerei in Plzeň.

A little story about Budweiser: I come from Germany and therefore appreciate good beer. One day I was in a Bohemian restaurant that had a few Bohemian beers on the menu. I tried them all and they were all excellent. They also had Budweiser, but I didn't really want to try it because I already knew it and remembered it tasting pretty bad. Thin and more like dirty water than beer. But since it was the last one on the menu, I decided to give it another chance and what can I say? That day I learned that the difference between Bud and Budweiser is MUCH BIGGER than it seems at first glance. Absolutely excellent beer that has a bad reputation among many beer lovers, probably quite wrongly, because of its well-known American cousin. @No.2 Pommes frites in German. Also often just called "Fritten", which sounds very similar to the slovenian name.

Add pastrami to the list Barb. It’s called “pastrama” it’s a very old traditional Romanian dish and it was brought to America (in NYC) by Romanian Jewish migrants who opened a bodega iirc. It was sold along with other meats like salami and peope found it easier to say “salami and pastrami” rather than “pastrama”. (Not food related but it is possible we Romanian also gave Americans baseball. It’s called “oina”, it’s our national sport and even though an Englisman is credited as its “invetor” it appears it actually became popular due to Romanian immigrants during the gold rush era.) About “French fries” we call them “cartofi pai”, it means “straw potatoes” in English.

One of the main reasons German food items end up being so prevalent is the fact that a large portion of Americans are actually of German descent.... In fact, a larger portion than English (there are more descended Germans here than any other nationality) .... Most likely having a lot to do with Pennsylvania being primarily German, as well as the Midwest .... Fun fact: there was a dispute back around the founding of our country as to whether we would all be speaking German or English as our national language.... and when English was chosen, Pennsylvania vowed to "Always speak the mother tongue" (German) .... Hence, there is a heavy Bavarian Illuminati presence in that part of the country....

It's interesting how the conversation about what foods represent different countries often gets conflated or, even contentious. I think a lof of the confusion at least has to do with the semantic blending of what a person could mean and what they actually mean. Saying that X food is very Y country might mean that's what they currently eat a lot and you will see it everywhere. OR, it could also mean I think that X food has it's orgins in Y.

French Fries or Fries are different to chips, fries are thin like you get at McDonald's and chips are like thick chips of wood (hence the name, but in potato form and the type you'll find at a chippy or chip shop). Americans seem to normally call these Stake Fries. Fries can be called chips, but chips can't be called fries here in Britain. Also you can go to the/a chippy as in the chip shop or you can be a chippy which is a carpenter. Chips as in Crisps were invented in England and not America like some claim, the recipe for them was in a British book years before America claimed to have invented them. I can't remember the name of the book, but look for a TV programme and episode called "Inside The Factory, Crisps". The historian on that has her own segment in telling the history/origin of them, the lady with the ginger'ish hair.
