The steam deck will make backwards compatibility issues a thing of the past
@HamFang2 жыл бұрын
@@smashmaster13 Backwards compatibility has never really been an issue with Steam/PC Gaming. I've always been able to play my steam games on any PC whether its a desktop, a laptop, or now a handheld PC like the Steam Deck. I've been able to fire up any game I've purchased over the last 15 years or so. I even have games in my steam library that are Mac compatible that I play on my macbook when I take breaks at work. That's one of the big advantages PC gaming has always had over consoles, you don't have to worry if the next console gen will support your old games. I love my steam deck, I cant suggest it enough to people and I cant wait to see the next iteration they release.
@MetalJesusRocks2 жыл бұрын
Blur is currently DELISTED from Steam and so getting that to run took a bit of work. Basically you need to find a copy of the .iso and then mount that. Then you add the setup.exe to your library as "non-steam game" and then run it with Proton Windows emulation. That will run the installation. THEN you go find the executable for Blur.exe. Remember, the Steam Deck is running SteamOS Linux so everything is just different enough. Once you find that exe you can then add THAT to you Non-steam library, choose Compatibility and one of the Proton layers and you are good to go! It's a bit of work, but the game once setup runs GREAT on the Deck 👍

Sounds like a process you need to get used to whenever they duelist games from steam.... It great that it works, but it also shows one of the big flaws this device has, if you ask me!

I've had my Deck for about a week now and I LOVE it. I'm currently playing Half-Life 2 which took a little while to adjust to the new control features but I'm really liking gyro aim. I'm also playing What The Golf, Dark Souls 2, and just trying a little of this and that including Morrowind. The ability to play my PC games library in a handheld form with a sleep button is really a game changer if you'll pardon the pun.

Exactly what I was thinking about too... What older PC games can you play on it? 🤔 I heard you can emulate with it too? I don't know about that though. 🤔
@elimalinsky70692 жыл бұрын
You can technically play Pong from 1972 via emulation, but natively I think plenty of games from around 1996-1997 should work just fine if you sideload Windows on it. Proton might have a problem with games older than 15 years or so, but Windows on the Steam Deck has its own share of problems which I hope will be ironed out soon.
@TBrizzle012 жыл бұрын
Well I saw Half Life 1 being played on this thing so I'm not sure if this would be a good video. The Steam Deck is a computer so basically.... It can run anything that's its hardware can handle. The only question is if you can properly play it since games won't have controller support, etc.

I'd strongly recommend BallisticNG; it even has a native Linux version, which I play on my Linux PC, so it should also work well on the Steam Deck. It's mostly inspired by the PS1 Wipeout games, and is one of my all-time favorite games. There's DLC, but what's great is the developer updates/adds to the base game for free, with the DLC still there if you want it. It also has robust Steam Workshop support, with custom user-made tracks, etc.
@crimsonshadow11402 жыл бұрын
I second that, ballisticNG is a really solid tribute to the original Wipeout trilogy, I’ve been following it since it’s inception

One of the best parts of Blur is that instead of a Blue Shell that guarantees a hit on the first place racer, you're instead given three staggered pools of electricity which can be tough to dodge, but not impossible to avoid. It's much more fair than Mario Kart in that way.

Ridge Racer Unbound is actually pretty fun. Definitely flopped because of the name, since it has a lot more in common with Burnout than Ridge Racer. And Blur probably failed because people that like Need For Speed and people that like Mario Kart don't really have much overlap. And be sure to upload your custom controller binds you did for Slipstream, that will probably help out other folks potentially. You have to put in at least 1 hour of gameplay for it to give you the option.

MJR, I share your passion for arcade racers, and there's a game I think you would love called Slipstream (no relation to Slipstream 5000). It's basically a new take on the Outrun formula, complete with Super Scaler-style graphics. If you want something like Need for Speed Underground, something of a "hidden gem" on Steam is a game called Street Racing Syndicate. It's a bit sexist with how they have "girlfriends" as literal in-game achievements, but if you turn off the in-game music and throw on your own music (the in-game music is pretty horrible), the gameplay is where it's at. I was blown away when I first played it, shocked by how well they captured the customization aspect of Need for Speed Underground. It also has a more modern control scheme (for that era), so it allows for using analog triggers for acceleration on PC. It was also on consoles, but it's currently 60 cents on Steam.
