I love my Dreamcast so much, and have fond memories playing Ready to Rumble, Sonic Adventure, House of the Dead 2, Crazy Taxi, Virtual On, and Shenmue as a kid. I also distinctly remember sitting in my childhood bedroom playing that old JRPG, Evolution: The World of Sacred Device, and listening to Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory on repeat while playing because it was a bit of a grind. Super awesome console

Evolution: The World of Sacred Device is one of my favorite games on the Dreamcast! That game takes me back to late 1999-early 2000 and playing that game non-stop. The soundtrack is also masterpiece; those dungeon themes are ingrained into earholes haha!

To fix the yellowing on the controllers and the console all you need to do it go to a beauty supply store and get Salon Care 40 put it on the yellowed sections, put saran wrap over it, and leave it out in the sun for a few hours. Easily my favorite console with some of my most fond memories. I was still in High School, and 9/9/99 was the gateway to a fantastic Summer Vacation. I remember paying for this with my own money, and waiting in line to pickup my pre-order at midnight at Lloyd Center in Portland. The anticipation leading to realease day was unreal - I had all the magazines, and read them several times. Taking my VMU to school the following year so that I could raise my Chao in class was also exciting. My younger brother and I would ultimately burn through a couple Dreamcasts due to running Phantasy Star Online for days at a time (sorry for hogging the phone lines, dad!).

Alongside something like the Switch, the Dreamcast is one of the most loveable gaming machines of all time. The sleek look of the console, the quirky controller, the welcome screen, the arcade-style games, THOSE blue skies. It was impossible to own a Dreamcast and not fall in love with it

@SmallSpoonBrigade2 жыл бұрын
My brother had a Saturn, and it was a pretty good system. The one thing that I absolutely hate about the Dreamcast is how hard it is to backup and restore the discs. Unlike my GB, GBC, NES, Genesis, 32x and N64, my Dreamcast is extremely hard to backup the games for and from what I know, the Saturn is only a bit easier. Given that with the Dreamcast you can lose the ability to use it by both the discs going bad as well as the optical drive, it's a shame that it won't have the longevity that some of these other systems do. (And yes, I know that you can install an opitical drive emulator, but that still requires that you backed the discs up in the first place which is a bit of a challenge)

Well, when you piss off the retail chains that are supplying the hardware to the customers, it's difficult to remain in business. This was over 20 years ago when a huge chunk of people didn't yet have the internet at all, or if they did had slow connections. The bit about selling these online wasn't really very good as you couldn't demonstrate the graphics chip quality and performance very easily without having the unit there to see.

"what should I be on the lookout for?" * maracas, in both official and third-party flavors, to play the very unique rhythm game Samba De Amigo; * microphone, which slots into one of the controller ports and opens up voice capabilities in the pet-raising sim weirdness of Seaman; * Ethernet adapter + modern matchmaking mods, to play OG DC online games against real people in the year 2022; * a mouse, so you can play Quake III Arena with your keyboard like a real pro gamer; * a light gun, if you don't mind connecting your DC to a CRT; * vibration pack, because what says "late '90s gaming" louder than an optional rumble pack; and maybe a DDR pad, if you want Kelsey to keep being your friend!

Since I've been knee deep in DC since '99, the Official Arcade Stick and the MadCatz MC2 steering are considered the best of those specific controllers. Then and now. The problem with the MC2 wheel is are two fold. The springs inside the wheel which give the resistance and return to center can snap and render the wheel useless. There are no-known DIRECT replacement springs. Also, the mounting tabs that the springs attach to can also break off. My suggestion is to reinforce the mounting tabs with Gorilla Glue. Alternatively, you could get a PS4 to DC controller adapter and plug in your PS4 wheel since modern day wheels are light years better.

Always Loved the dreamcast and I remember using the keyboard at my uncles house when I wasnt playing vigilante 8 2nd offense. I really think the VMU should make a comeback, a small device that parents can feel safe knowing their kids cant use the internet on it, but it allows kids to play mini games on the go to maybe unlock bonus items or content in the main game when plugged into the controller again. Heck make it have a touch screen to be used like a touch pad on PS controllers too. So much potential, its a shame companies don't really innovate anymore.
