Of you suffer from plantar fasciitis, don’t wear ballet flats or super flat shoes. (I actually got PF from wearing (cushioned) ballet flats walking around campus (work).) I need a thick sole and/or a slightly elevated heel, or it comes right back.

I’ve had chronic plantar fasciitis for 23 years & could never wear flats since I was young. Try the foam Birkenstock slide knockoffs or the real thing. They are the most supportive shoes I’ve ever worn. My doctor told me the best shoe for me would be something akin to a roller skate 🛼 (Granny boot) without the wheels. I was always better off in a heel. The Birkenstock knock-off is the only shoe, flat or otherwise I can wear without an orthotic.

I swear three-inch heels from Inez or Ally NYC are more comfortable than Vivaia flats or low heels.

@@Christina-ov4lt the support for spine and bones is called muscles. Yes, they make some spots on the sole hard and thicker, but that's just your feet getting used to the pressure. People back in time (like 500 years ago) walked hundreds of miles a week in wood shoes or flat sandals or flat leather shoes. We're not meant to walk in soft or super ergonomic shoes.

I'm learning over the past few days about the need for working with releasing the fascia in the body -- starting with the feet. The feet are our foundation, and whatever's going on in the feet has a ripple effect all the way up the body. If you're pinching your toes due to uncomfortable shoes, what does that do to the rest of the body? Going barefoot seems like the best idea, for most of the time -- otherwise wear "barefoot" sneakers. What's more elegant: plastic things on the feet that make us pinched and physically ill, or comfortable shoes that let our toes have some space between so that we can relax, breathe and flow inside our bodies?

I went to a doctor once who specialized in sports medicine. He actually got mad at me for wearing ballet flats. He said it was stupid to wear those shoes... no support at all. (I thought high heels were the stupid shoes to be wearing. Hmm...) BTW, they were Clarks with a little bit of support built into the insole. I do think he was right. I'm 61 now. Also , a friend who wore high heels daily for work also had extremely serious foot problems by retirement age . Heredity coupled w/ bad habits ... 🥰

I absolutely ADORE Vivaia shoes! I have four pairs, and when I look to buy shoes, that is go-to store. They’re stylish, easy to care for, and comfortable. I like that they’re eco-friendly and, for the vegans, cruelty free. I’m impressed that they’re breathable. I usually don’t like wearing shoes made of man-made materials because they don’t breathe, and the side effect of that is stinky feet. I don’t have that problem with their shoes. You’re not “feeling” things, Frédérique. As we get older, our feet get bigger. I used to be able to wear a size 39 shoe comfortably, and now they’re too small (even though I’m slimmer than I was 2 years ago), and I have to wear a size 40 shoe.

Where I used to be about a C width, I’m now probably closer to a D width. When I was a kid and would go shopping with my mom (in the 70s), we’d really have to hunt for shoes because having women’s shoes come in widths was a real rarity. When she was browsing and a salesperson would ask her if she wanted to try a pair she was admiring, she’d often say, “Bring me the box. It’ll probably fit better.” The youngsters usually didn’t get it, but the experienced shoe fitters would chuckle and agree with her that stylish shoes really only fit with “model” feet.

Some brands of ballet flats have arch support but I forget the name.

Whenever I wear ballet flats, I feel like my feat are too tall, where the shoe folds up, it hurts the top of my foot. I like them, maybe I need a different brand that I don't know about? I'm in America...I don't know if we have Vivaia.

All flat shoes should have arch support, otherwise they’re not good for the feet

Hi Frederique, I have a problem with my feet that I haven’t heard spoken about before. I used to do ballet when I was younger, up until my teenage years and as such I have a high instep which means that most flats I have tried have been painful and I have had to throw them away. Ballet flats being (ironically) the main example. What would you suggest?

You didn't mention how are their sizes running? Small, big, true to the size? I wear 9,5 in sandals, and 10 in sneakers. What do I buy in ballet flats?

A bit small I recommend to take a size over

Ballet flats look awful if you have big feet and thick legs /ankles

Those adidas sneakers generally have a rock hard footbed, very little support and if I wear them I’m in agony by the end of the day. You must have very strong feet ❤
