Great tutorial Mitch! We just upgraded with 2 R6 and love them so far. I would just add a very important note that for users to use a prime lens, you will need to go to the orange menu and go to tab number 4 and change "Release shutter w/o lens" to Enable or On. I think this will help many prime lens users who use the R6. Otherwise, very detailed and educating video!!! Thanks!!!

Our experience with the camera is different though - the IBIS is excellent with RF lenses and even gimbal is not necessary. Zebra is useful too. What reviewers almost never mention is that the advertised new file formats such as HEVC H265 cannot be played properly on almost all computers, even those dedicated to graphical work and additional processing is required.

I got the R6 and loved it first until I recognized that I cannot save my custom settings for video. Now I found out that I can save my own menu (the green one) as you did and that could be a good compromise to use this custom "My Menu" for switching between 120fps and 30 fps, which I do a lot.. thanks for that

I just bought the R6 yesterday after having sold all my gear (5Dmark IV's) a couple years back. That's my one complaint about the camera! I loved being able to switch between 24,60,and 120 super quickly. But other than that the camera is pretty fantastic.

I noticed while vlogging today that my Canon R6 wouldn’t light my face properly. It would basically choose the background exposure over exposing my face correctly. Do you know why this happens?

Charley Pangus ahh damn I wish I could help you man but I’ve never used auto ISO for vlogging. I’m guessing it doesn’t have a system that adjusts exposure for faces. I usually avoid auto iso and just dial in my settings.

Hi Mitch ... 11 months on and your video is still the one to turn to for a settings refresh. Question .... I'm shooting a junior dance concert. Low key, 2 x 15m sets. I'm shooting with the 70-200 f2.8 III, and because the dancers are on stage and coming towards me on a catwalk, I want an aperture of f5.6 to maybe f7.1? But this is also indoors on a stage (at the local RSL!), so the lighting will be decent concert spots, without being awesome. I'm going to shoot at 24/Full IPB. So what shutter speed would recommend without ISO jumping up? We haven't had a full scale rehearsal in the hall, so I'm flying a bit blind. I'll have a quick chance to test when I'm setting up. No, there isn't. But it think you can fasten it in post, and get the 120fps video in its original length.

@@hyuseinhyuseinov7338 simply fasten your video by 4 times to get the 30fps per second time. But it may look unnatural because of the high shutter speed (1/200) used to get 120fps footage. Still in short scenes it may be useful. Check it by yourself ;)

It only has IPB, but also has 10-bit 4:2:2 colour and high bit rate files so the difference in quality might not be that noticeable. The files will probably be harder to edit though.

Big improvement with that 10 bit codec. Log is now usable without compression artefacts. Of course no crop FF 4K (and the ability to crop also) and 50/60p makes it a pretty great upgrade.

Mitch Lally keen to upgrade! As good as the image could be at times from the R, it was hard to avoid banding, noise and blocking even at best possible settings (iso400, clog, all-i 4k). I’m seeing and hearing reports the 1080 is also better on the R6 which is fantastic as switching to 1080 is always an option if overheating ever becomes and issue in 4k, nice to know you’ll still get perfectly usable footage in 1080. Are you seeing better dynamic range in video compared to the R?

jamescause I’m not noticing a huge dynamic range increase but apparently DR is slightly better according to the DXO mark stats from the 1DX iii (it shares the same sensor) so that’s something to consider but I don’t think it is a huge jump.

@@suprat49 there are some videos on the KZbin (eg. from YCImaging) comparing R vs R6 1080p and it's a noticeable difference. Way more details, less noise and artifacts. The image is much cleaner and you can push it way harder and recover shadows/highlights more efficiently.

Nice video bro! I have 2 questions. 1- How does the 1080p 120fps of the R6 compares to the 1080p 60fps of the R? Quality wise. 2- When shooting 4k 60fps with the Sigma 18-38 and enabling Movie Crop, what modes can I shoot ? I don’t get that scientific with it. I use the histogram and expose so that the midtones are slightly shifted to the right (ETTR). I’ve found that the white balance looks fine as is.

Hmm anybody know what type of cpu needed to edit canon r6 log footages without proxy? Canon told me my computer spec enought for this codec, but no. It isnt. I ask them for any recommended spec for editing but they dont know. So any advice? :D

You need to change the C-LOG setting to on. The R5 and R6 only allow you to record 10bit in the c-log colour mode.

Ok so 10 bit engages when you turn on C-log....Wait a min, does that mean that you can't record 8 bit c-log like canon eos r?

@@greenlightstudios3469 That's correct. But you shouldn't WANT to shoot 8 bit C-LOG because C-LOG requires a higher bit depth in order to avoid banding and color blocking due to it's luma curve. Banding and color blocking IMO is worse than having 0.5 stops less dynamic range in your final image.

I just ordered the canon r6. As of now I only shoot 8 bit clog and it’s all I know, it’s great but I did order r6 for 10 bit
