Fall Backpacking Expedition in Sarek National Park. A hiking, wild camping and wildlife watching trip into Sarek National Park in September. This is a tour we organize in our guide company. Usually, we make the tour with a maximum of seven guests. This year we had bad luck with our bookings and some guests had to cancel their bookings, so in the end, we just had two paying clients. Therefore, we invited Micke, who has been on several trips with us before. He didn't even hesitate before he said yes. In the last few years, we have got snow, a lot of snow on this expedition, therefore, we decide to make the trip one week earlier this year. That was an excellent decision. We didn't get snow and the temperature wasn’t that cold. But this year, we got some heavy rain with increased water levels and flooding in the creeks and rivers instead so extreme weather but in another form ;-). We almost got trapped behind the flash floods and we had to leave the main route out of Rapa Valley and find a route a little bit away from the lowland along the river instead.

Except for making videos we also run a small company called Jokkmokkguiderna and a kennel called Working Husky Kennel. We offer guided outdoor tours in Swedish Lapland all around the year. During the winter we mostly do dog sled tours and in the summertime, it’s hiking tours, wildlife safaris, canoe, and packraft trips. Nice distraction from troublesome news elsewhere, though being out there myself would be an even better distraction than watching the nice video... ;-) Thanks! Did you ever encounter bears on any of your tours? And what is the reason that in Sweden brown bears appear to be less of a danger than their cousins in the Americas (ok, those are different (sub)species) or even their brothers and sisters (same species of Ursus arctos arctos) elsewhere in Europe and Asia? Is it the bears or the humans that make the difference?

That’s not uplifting to look at the news… Our brown bears are really hard hunted during several hundred years. We (Scandinavian people) have killed each one of the bears that wasn’t shy. Today it’s in their genes to be shy. That’s how I got it explained for me. /Matti

Hi Matti, nice video as always. I think I was the same time as you in Rapadalan, but I did the south side. What surpised me is that in Sarek the birches had already lost all their leaves early September. On my previous hikes in September in the area I believe bu 2nd half September the birches would start loosing their leaves. So I guess it was very early this year. Do you know why dthat is?
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA 3 күн бұрын
I totally agree!!! It was super early. I know that there was a kind of brown dust on the birch leaves. Some trees almost turned brown instead of getting the colour. Then it could also have been really windy. There was still some areas with more leaves left. /Matti

We have made some videos when we show all the gear we use on tours. Stina made one last summer for a summer hike in the mountains. I made one about all the gear I used during a canoe trip. They didn’t get a lot of views… maybe we made something wrong?? Do you have some input? Is it just a gear list people what? /Matti

This was the hike I originally wanted to go on, but couldn't because of scheduling conflicts, so I am so happy to have been able to see your video. Throughout this video I kept thinking - Oh I wish I'd been able to go! and then the rain and I thought - I remember that rain, so glad I'm here dry and warm, just watching from afar - and then back to - I would have loved that hike! You lead a great trip, Matti, thank you for allowing us to come with you! ❤

Thanks!!! I doesn’t use gators. The other guys in the group used different types of gators. Now I started to value my decision to not use gators. It’s actually really good when it’s muddy terrain. Maybe you will see me with gators next summer… /Matti

Yes… it’s really beautiful higher up in the valley. The lower part is good when we are scouting for wildlife. Next year I will make a tour higher with a group. It’s a couple of weeks earlier and the main goal for the tour is hiking. Not wildlife watching. Normally we also make this week later in the season and then the lower terrain is less exposed for snow and wind. I hope I give you some kind of answer. Bar /Matti
