My wife and I hope to go this winter to Takayama and the surrounding Alps… was wondering if you know if we can email a reservation to Sakurajaya as my Japanese is limited to ‘dai jo bu,’ ‘ogenki des ka,’ and ‘nijongo skoshi skoshi wakarimasu’. We would love to delve into Chef Hiroshi’s culinary delights!! 😊😊😊

Great video! Can you tell me the name of the waterfall at 2:50? Or the name of the trail its on? I can't find any pictures of it on their website. Planing on doing this in late April.

Hey. I don’t know unfortunately. It was all organised through the company we went with so I didn’t have to think about things. I believe I linked them in the description if you wanna book the same trip
@bengoodgion Жыл бұрын
@@SuitcaseMonkey thats the site I went to. They offer many different hikes, which vary greatly. And unfortunately are not described with very many pictures. This could be the reason people have such mixed reviews about hiking that area. I hope I pick the one you went on. Looks amazing!

Hi, noticed in the comments that it was in April that you visited Okuhida and there was still snow. I know there aren't so many snowy days in April but from your experience would you know if the ground would still be icy and the trees covered with icicles? Also, would it be a good idea to make Okuhida the home-base (thinking ryokan) and then make day trips by hired car to Takayama and to Shirakawago.
@SuitcaseMonkey3 жыл бұрын
Hey there. It depends how much you are happy driving in a day. Takayama is about an hour each way and Shir 90 mins each way. Maybe you could do both in one trip to reduce the extra distance? But if you're happy with that, then yeah, if you have a really nice home you want to not always be moving from. We stayed in 2 different places because we wanted to be close in Takayama and then move on. Also, because our ryokan was quite expensive, it was easier to justify the expense over 2 nights as opposed to 4, if that makes sense. On the roads side of things, there a whole chunk I skipped out of this video for time sake, but we actually got stranded with the snow for a day and had to take the bus. You HAVE to get snow tyres, etc with your car to be able to drive, in case the weather gets bad. We didnt and couldn't leave our hotel. Even if we had the tyres I wouldn't have been confident driving on the winding cliffs to be honest so just be aware of that in advance.
