Dirk is one of the most humble and respectful guys in the league. I don't like the Mavs but if I was a player I would have considered playing for them due to his unwavering and respectful character. It's sad though that the Mavs wasted so many years of his prime and now are tanking. Dirk can still give you 20 and clutch 3s. Mavs need to do something to bring in superstars rather then doing the 76ers draft bs. Dirk deserves better, he could have went elsewhere and had 3 titles by now.
@CavsFanDallasFanSinceFebruary6 жыл бұрын
DJ Skandalous They didn't waste many of his years, they just couldn't find success until 2011.
@ThatsPety6 жыл бұрын
76ers draft BS? UUUUMM they look like serious threats rn and that's with Fultz hurt and they have a bunch of young talent to terrorize the league for years to come. That "BS" worked out beautifully, and it makes sense for Dallas to do the same since they were losing a bunch anyways to start the season
@DJSkandalous6 жыл бұрын
Pety sixers are good now because they tanked for five straight years man. Would you want to waste five years on a tanking team? I don't blame the sixers, you weren't getting anywhere in the East without a superstar because of LeBron. But Dallas always had Dirk as their star. They just couldn't land anyone else since 2011. Barnes or Parsons? Lol no thanks
@ThatsPety6 жыл бұрын
DJ Skandalous they weren't good earlier because of injuries. Both Embiid and Simmons, the 2 leaders of the team, dealt with major injuries that held the team back. By next year Dallas'll have veteran guidance in Barnes, Dirk, Matthews, etc, and young rising talent in DSJ, Powell, and whoever they grab HIGH in next year's draft. They're in good shape to give Dirk a good final season
@DJSkandalous6 жыл бұрын
Pety true but sixers dragged injured players most likely just to tank again. That was probably the case with Noel and Embiid. Sure Embiid was the best available at the time of the selection though. But twice in a row they draft injured people that missed the first whole year can't be a coincidence lol. Paid off WITH embiid though. Happy for the dude. Glad he isn't another Greg Oden.

Arthur Glover can people please stop talking about 1994 Hakeem. This was a Jordan-less year and years. If Jordan was playing they woulda swept their asses easily. I know that they were very impressive in the west in 1994 and that is impressive but they should’ve never won those two NBA championships. Did I mention that they played a Magic team that had chemistry issues and are cursed, had an amazing year the other year and played a Knicks team that was not that good and still almost lost. The mavs clearly had a better conpetition than the lowly 1994 bulls. Try beating LaMarcus Aldridge, Gerald Wallace and a still amazing Brandon Roy who was heroic in this series in the first round when you have been struggling to get past it, a Kobe, Lamar O, Pau, good Bynum and good Artest that won the championship the other year and SWEEP them, beat a younger, hungrier and more athletic team in the Thunder with Harden, KD, a monstrous Serge Ibaka and Westbrook. And lastly go to the Finals and play against LeBron James in his PRIME, Dwyane Wade in his late PRIME, Chris Bosh who was a very helpful player who was technically a star player. Not only do u win but you shut down the King who was desperate for a championship since moving to Miami. The point I am trying to make here is that, well, sure the Mavs had a great system and players in it and probably even better than the Rockets had, but you see the difference is that the Mavs had to face the King and KOBE when they were out of their minds. Rockets, I’ll give it to ya that you played against Mailman and John Stockton, but those were the kind of getting ready seasons for the Jazz, the Suns who are the suns of course find a way to lose but probably the best team they faced, and the spurs who were an interesting team but they were disadvantaged because of the three point shooting the Rockets brought to the table and then they play against a trash eastern team the Knicks instead of the Bulls. The Mavs run was better than the 1994 rockets or whatever year it was when they were a 6 seed period.

As a Spurs fan, I respect the hell out of Nowitzki. He used to be "soft" even during his MVP season. But in 2011 playoffs, he was a monster and unstoppable in all rounds. Aside from beating all the contenders on their way to the championship, heck even sweeping the Lakers in the 2nd round, I remember that they also swept some of the best teams at that time in the regular season like Boston, Orlando and Chicago with MVP Derrick Rose, if I'm not mistaken. I'm just happy for Dirk to finally win his due championship that was so evasive from him for so long. 2011 was indeed his coming out party.

KG was a beast, one of the best defenders and toughest player. He would challenge anybody to a 1on1 and beat them. He was the defensive anchor in Boston and without him they wouldn't get past the first round honestly. That's how much value his defense alone brings to the team. Without a doubt he was the Celtics' enforcer, leader, and best defender. Youre trippin od, KG is one of the players to set the athletic freak big men who play inside out trend. @mrmacross6 жыл бұрын
KG was missing a bit of killer instinct, though, as a closer. When you look at the 2008 Finals run, when the pressure was at its highest, KG was looking to pass to Pierce and Allen. Duncan was the man in his second season, and led his team to the title. But as far as all-around stats go, KG was better at filling the box score. But as you say, if he played in a better culture, maybe he would've developed that killer instinct.

No one, including even most Dallas fans, thought the Mavs could defeat the big three on the Miami Heat. This was the genesis year for super teams when Lebron, D Wayde, and Chris Bosh teamed up. That final series was breathtaking. People were always on the edge of their seats. When Dirk realized they had won, he walked outside the court area to collect his emotions. A player that takes pay cuts, sticks and stays loyal to one team, is so rare these days. GG Dirk. Well Played

2011 playoffs Critics and analysts 1st round: mavs will not even pass 1st round, Aldridge will prove he's the best player in this series(blazers) 2nd round: this is the end road for the mavs, they're facing the 2 time defending champions(Lakers) West finals: Mavs will not make it to the finals, coz they're too old they can't keep up with the young, athletic and talented thunders Finals: Mavs dont stand a chance, coz they're up against a super team and the best player in the world Hahaha funny that every round of that years playoffs everybody counted them out
@Galatin5 жыл бұрын
That is not entirely accurate, the Mavs had one big expert supporter by the name of Chuck aka Charles Barkley. I recall he picked them in all these rounds, and in particular versus the Lakers he made it clear that the Lakers wouldn't stand a chance against the more balanced and versatile Mavs. Turned out he was the only real expert with this picks among the NBA TV panel of experts that year...

Galatin yah but the thing is most if not all, "analysts" didn't believe that Mavs will win the series.

To be fair he had Tyson chandler who was one of the best defensive players in the league at the time. He even won the award the year after. his impact on the team is greatly underrated.

All Time Best Power Forwards: 1. Tim Duncan 2. Dirk 3. Karl Malone 4. Charles Barkley
@Damianoutlaw6 жыл бұрын
Charles Barkley was my favorite player of the 1990's. Barkley would have been the best power forward of all time if he took his conditioning seriously. Its why he never won a title. Dirk beat all the other top competitors in the playoffs like Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Kobe, Lebron, Durant, Harden....etc. Barkley never beat Olajuwon or Jordan in the playoffs. Dirk was better than Barkley.
@Damianoutlaw6 жыл бұрын
Maybe...just maybe....if Barkley took his conditioning more seriously he wouldn't have had all of those back injuries and would have been able to beat Olajuwon or Jordan in the playoffs. Dirk has had a more accomplished career than Charles Barkley
@Damianoutlaw6 жыл бұрын
That is a classic straw-man argument. Dirk passed Barkley a long time ago. Barkley was only able to lead his team to one NBA Finals...which they lost....and FTR Dirk is better than Malone, Stockton, Payton or Drexler. Magic is the only player you listed that will end up higher on the all time list than Dirk.

@goatsoap6 жыл бұрын
He didn't take a pay cut because Cuban needed the money. He took it because of the salary cap aka wanting a better chance of winning. Do you think Steph Curry took a paycut because the owner wanted money or because Steph wanted KD on his team?

My Favorite player all time, the reason that im a Dallas fan since 2000, a humble, charismatic guy who cares more about character than money or fame. Everything about him is special, even the fact that he got scam by a gold digger for love show the type of person he is... lovable, innocent and yet so much passion for the sport that makes every game important for the fan, the league gained so much because of him, you can count in your hand the amount of people who actually impact the game that much, a family man that made the mavs a crucial part of his own family... I live in Brazil, i watch the NBA since 99 and every time he did something it was like all my interest in the NBA was gravitating towards him, on today's NBA is more like passion for the money and not passion for the game, few had so much passion to the point of carrying the weight of losing in 2006 until 2011 like him, its sound silly, but that weight got out of my shoulders to, i was cheering for him every minute of every game for half a decade. and im proud to say that my idols molded my character... I was 22 when he won the championship and my father ask me why a grow as man like me was crying watching a game of basketball, the reason was simple, hard work, dedication and loyalty paid of, and i was happy for him. Days later people started to say that when he run out of the tunnel in the last game, he got to the looker-room to cry, i guess we cried at the same time then :)

Dirk is a savage, one of the best to ever do it. Definitely one of my favorite players. a true class act. But that 2011 Mavs team was a super team in their own right. They had Dirk, Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, Tyson Chandler, Shawn Marion, Caron Butler, Stojakavic, Jose Barea aka the Puerto Rican Allen Iverson, Corey Brewer, Brendon Heyward, Deshawn Stevenson. That team was so stacked they had to blow it up the next season cause they couldn't pay all of them.

On the "burger" thing: when I was playing Queens schoolyard ball in the late 70's- early 80's, if you "took" someone (i.e., scored on them one-on-one) we'd say that you "served" him (I was fond of announcing that "I'm servin' like Gervin" now and again [look him up, young 'un's] ). Eventually that evolved into the expression "you served him like a burger." Not saying that this is behind Gary Trent's usage (he's 9 years younger than I and from Ohio) nor even that anyone reading should remotely care. But the "burger" thing evoked some pangs of nostalgia for NYC back in the day--and my long gone youth--and I just had to share. This vid. also reminded me of the time I left $72 million on the table, but that's a tale for another day...

That is not true. 13 out of 18 ESPN Writers picked the Mavs to beat OKC in the 2011 Western Conference Finals www.espn.com/nba/playoffs/2011/matchup/_/teams/thunder-mavericks

Damian Outlaw i remember the show with Michael wilbon Magic Johnson and two other Guy they use to do also the halftime show. Only one of four picked the mavs. Maybe the smart one picked them but we got no love on tv.
@Damianoutlaw6 жыл бұрын
I understand all of that. People were picking against the Mavs all post season...including the series against Portland. All Im stating is that it is incorrect to say the Mavs were not favored against OKC. They were huge underdogs to the Lakers and slight underdogs to the Heat. They were favored to beat Portland and OKC.
