"edrums are always quiet" - tell that to my downstairs neighbor who complains about the 'thudding' on his ceiling. They don't produce anywhere close to as much noise as an acoustic kit, but they produce just as much vibration.

Great video! I’m just getting into the edrum world and plan on getting my first soon. This was really informative and helped gain more of an understanding of edrums 🤘

Thanks! Glad it's helped and have fun with the new kit when you get it!

The eDrum Workshop Thanks it’s so hard to decide! I love playing metal and I’m looking to spend around 2500-3000 aud. What would you recommend around that price range?

Hi, Luke, great video! Thank you! 26 years ago I started with an edrum. A few years later I added playing acoustic drums. My advice (not only for beginners): choose buying your gear wisely, then play and love it! Don´t care too much about opinions other persons, use your head and mind, let your heart speak! Every thing on our earth has a positive and a negative side! I am a happy man because I love all my drum gear. For 95% I play edrum connected with a "good-class" headphone. And so I am able to love my drumming every day! At last: trust yourself and be honest to yourself! Greetings from good old Germany!

Great info. It will weigh in my decision to get an ekit.

Hey great Vid .I have idea that i did that can maybe help with a few Myths .I had an old acoustic kit that i made an electronic kit ..I put Silent Stroke heads on all drums , put drum triggers to the module and got the silent cymbals .. Now the spacing is the same .Maybe the feel is a little bouncy still but ok .So when i play out i have the look of playing a real kit but with all those sound choices .. I love it and it really helps when you play a gig where you have to have a low volume ..Now if you switch over to a real kit you really have to get used to only the feel and i noticed that the sounds are in your face where as the electronic kit sounds come from your amp off to the side ..

My drum teacher specifically uses an old roland drum kit to ensure his students learn ghost notes properly because if you don't play really quietly on the snare, it just triggers as a normal snare hit. In this way, electronic drums can actually make you a better drummer.

Nice wrap up. Recently I bought an Alesis Strike Multipad and like it very much. It is a nice addition to my synths (mainly analog and some sample based). The part about dynamic range and timbre is spot on. To mimick acoustic (like drums or piano) you need to multisample in order to get close to acoustic.

Thanks Mike! Ah nice, glad you're enjoying the Strike Multipad. I've not had chance to try one out properly, just very briefly on the show floor at last year's Drum Show. Would definitely like to at some point!

@@TheeDrumWorkshop Going to make some kits on the Alesis so I can do some Kraftwerk kinda stuff (plenty of Roland vintage drum machine samples in there). But I also like to play an "acoustic" kit for rocking out a bit. And of course you can make your own samples (Moog Subsequent or ARP Odyssey into Alesis). Beside Kraftwerk I also like Gary Numan, synth based but with acoustic drums, Cars and Are Friends Electric sound awesome to me. Nice channel you got, very informative.

Nice review. Looking to add electric soon. Only a minor question: Can you play Brushes ?
@TheeDrumWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
Some eDrums allow brushes, but I'm no expert on the extent of their functionality. I think it's mostly Roland who have it and I'm pretty sure you can use them on the TD-30 and 50, but don't know much beyond that, unfortunately.

Regarding myth #1, the main thing that's easier is you can make it sound like you're playing really hard when in reality you are not. Playing hard and loud is much more challenging and requires more endurance than just tapping like I see most edrummers doing (the Schack-man being a notable exception).
@TheeDrumWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
Yes, totally, it can be much easier! That's why I focused on setting the trigger settings up accurately - if you make yourself have to work for it, it will be more similar. It's much easier and sometimes more fun not to bother though 😅

Yeah, there are some exceptions, like my old 1999 Roland V pro kit, and the way I have it set up..long story short, I'm bashing on them on purpose and with synthetic sticks. If it were real cymbals and drum skins they would be trashed in 2 weeks. I would guess that the opposite is true as you have said.
