Hey Luke, Just downloaded the SCM library and kits. After playing just the first 3 kits,,,, Wow! They are fantastic. I agree with you...they have a bit more character and musicality than those in the standard Pearl Mimic library. Love, the snares, toms, and the Meinl cymbals sound awesome. Thanks to you and Steve for making this available to the Mimic community. Well done. I will donate.

Hey man, I’m that fella. I really appreciate the donation. And I hope you like the sounds. As Luke said they do have a totally different character to the stock sounds. But that only adds to the pallet of tones for the user. They’re still my main kit patch. Engineers love them as they’re getting raw in processed sounds. Well, the ones that want total control over the processing do anyway. I like to add a one shot to the snare (rimshot) or a one shot or one of the SD3 kick samples for the kick for added punch. This works immensely.

Thanks for the kind words Rick. After all that’s come out with edrums of late I’m still of the opinion that the Mimic is the best module made. Sure I love the Strata Prime, the (hella expansive) DWe and the new Zildjian module looks promising but if I was buying a module again, the mimic would still be it.
@rickbiessman6084

@@steevidrums For sure. I haven’t looked into the Strata Prime, but what I heard from the DWe was a huge letdown for me. Sounded like an average e drum kit to me, which is to say... kinda bad tbh. But the Mimic Pro is exactly what a current drum module should be. =)
@steevidrums
@steevidrums 3 ай бұрын
@@rickbiessman6084 I agree. It excels at the output routing. 12 fully assignable outputs. 16 if you factor in the main outs and headphone outs too. It’s a beast and Pearl/Slate got it pretty damn spot on. With the editor your not limited to the internal sounds, save hihats that is.

@@rickbiessman6084 DWe had some really great new tech. But yeah I’m not a fan of the sound works VST. Thankfully the user isn’t restricted to that as it can work with any VST of one’s choosing. Though it too has some nice features. Namely able to load in customs multi layered sounds. Haven’t seen anyone use that yet though. The wireless tech is impressive. Though not for everyone. I mean there’s the price tag and the fact them cymbals are loud. But still great innovation, just out of reach price wise to the Everyman.
@rickbiessman6084
@rickbiessman6084 3 ай бұрын
@@steevidrums Yeah, for me the DWe is one of those first gen products where the developers really only will be able to realize their vision when they can improve upon the first version. I love the idea of the wireless tech. Although you’d never see me buying a regular DW shellset for electronic use. Who has the time to change heads and install/remove the triggers on a regular basis? :D These days, I only play drums live at church, so I don’t need a portable professional sounding kit. But if I did, I’d try to avoid having to use a laptop and interface because it’s just so much to set up in addition to a drum kit. That’s why the Mimic Pro seems such a good solution to me.

Some SCM samples have been available for 2Box Drumit modules for 8 months now and they sound very good. Great that 2Box Drumit users from present and/or past are bringing sample sharing over to the Mimic Pro library. I would love to share some samples from my Sonor birch kit (snares on, snares off, mallets, dampened with a shirt) for Mimic users. Planning to record brushes, broom & rods soon on the Sonor as well as my Paiste 2002 cymbals (stick, mallets, rods, wire brushes & broom), I just need to find enough time.

You wouldn't want to use that "overheads and room" only mic configuration in a live (amplified) setting, really. It would sound pretty washy and lacks the direct mic transients that help things sound clear through a PA. Ideally in a live scenario you want direct mics as dry as possible, no room channel (unless it's lacking ambience somehow, but the real room reflections usually provide that. What is it about the loading process on the 2Box modules that you find difficult? Usually it's just a case of putting the .dsnd files onto the onboard memory or SD card, depending on the model.

Module vs VST in a live setting comes down to the piece of mind of the laptop not crashing during a gig. Personally I think modern machines these days are pretty solid, so it’s less of a concern as it was several years ago. That being said, I’ve had a laptop (a pretty potent MAC) with SSD5.5 loaded into MainStage crash once or twice. It’s not been a major concern as it’s a home kit. But on a gig it would be a stressful situation.

@@timolonnberg3205 the TD27 is a very good module. I’m not one of those people who rubbish Roland’s sound character, I mean, there’s no shortage of people who love them and what can be done to them within the module. Also the digital triggering stuff, while expensive, is a step forward to getting an ekit to play as close to its acoustic counterparts.
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! If you like using your VSTs and you're happy with the setup you have, there's no pressing need to swap modules as the TD-27 triggers well and runs well with software. If you want what the Mimic offers - things like preferring a hardware solution rather than software (for home use or gigs), liking the onboard sounds, wanting the ability to load your own samples to the module, liking the interface etc, then those could be good reasons for you to swap. It is still compatible with VSTs, though it doesn't have MIDI over USB like the TD-27 does, so you'd need an audio interface or at least a MIDI to USB converter. This new selection of sounds for the Mimic is great, but it probably wouldn't be the only factor in a decision. It really comes down to what you want out of a module.

That’s awesome! I wish there was a way to make that on our own though. I work at a recording studio and could easily record within the same parameters that the Slate team needed Steve to record (stereo overheads and room mics). But I wish their editor software was complex enough to allow us to make these detailed kits on our own. I would love to make some kits for the “Worship/Church” e-drum community. The modern worship snare drum is so big and fat that it’s difficult to find a snare that sounds similar on the default

Sorry to hear about this. What exactly did you do when this happened? Was it after you inserted a USB stick? Or was it after you installed the files? Also, what exactly happens when it doesn't turn on? Do you get a white screen? I've not heard of this exact thing happening before with these files but I've heard of boot issues in the past. There is a "safe mode" that you can boot the module into which might help. I think you press the data wheel button in and hold it down while turning the power on, then release the button when you see the Pearl logo. You might be able to boot this mode and then uninstall these files from the module if that is the step that caused the problem. Apparently if you go into some of the settings (like trigger settings) they might reset to factory defaults, so maybe make sure to only go into menus that you need to go in when using this mode. If you're not already a member, try joining one of the Mimic Pro groups on Facebook and asking in there. One of the developers sometimes posts in there so they might be able to help if they see it.
