On my Want to Read shelf, I always pick the cover that's most attractive if it's a classic or something with a cover I don't find particularly interesting, that way I'll be enticed to get it from my library. And then when I read the book, I usually switch it to the edition that I actually read.

The DNF bookshelf and the excel worksheet are great ideas. Especially the categorization option. I categorize my reading into topics like philosophy or nonfiction, so I know what I was interested in reading.

I came across this video while trying to find videos to help me decide whether I should sign up for Goodreads or LibraryThing. The main thing I want to do is to catalogue books I own copies of, as I own them across multiple e-book platforms for reasons that would require a lengthy explanation (available on request). What you mentioned about becoming a "Goodreads Librarian" would be interesting for me, as I have a lot of self-published comics in my library ("Isle of Elsi" and "The Fuzzy Princess" are two examples of the self-published stuff I read and enjoy), and had been meaning to sign up for Discogs so I could contribute to both that (for audio CDs) and Bookogs (for books), but had forgotten to do so.

How do u reply to comments on goodreads? You can’t tag anyone and there’s no reply button on the tag at least but I see people replying with the person they’re replying to’s comment italicised I’m so confused

One thing I enjoyed throughout the story is that each scene is happening in multiple locations and I loved the way the author painted the picture in front of me. It was almost like I was there, and I could vividly see what is going on. My favourite part is when all of them get stuck in a cave with another civilisation, who don't even speak the language. I can keep on going, but I am going to stop here as I don't want to spoil too much for the future the readers. Secondly, I was shocked when the author came up with a new script altogether for the ancient civilisation, and I completely enjoyed the riddles Firstly, I was amazed by the attention to details in every chapter and I am sure you would notice it as well. One thing I enjoyed throughout the story is that each scene is happening in multiple locations and I loved the way the author painted the picture in front of me. When you mark a book as "read," there should be an option at the bottom allowing you to pick and choose the dates of when you started/finished reading. Also, on a book's main page, you can scroll down to where it says "my activity" and edit the dates from there.

Melissa Thomas You might find my idea useful- I have a shelf titled books I own and when I've read such a book, I just add it. But I didn't add them all at once, just as I read them.

I have a non-exclusive shelf called 'own' so I mark every book I own. If you wanted to, you could also have a non-exclusive shelf for each room in your house, so you can mark where they are kept. Might be useful, it depends how many books and how big your house is I suppose! Or you could use the notes field to record where they are kept. (I also have a shelf called 'library' so I can keep track of all my library requests and loans.) So in other words you use the shelf names as tags or categories.

Goodreads is a place to find out about books, and to catalogue your own books and Wishlist. It isn't for actually reading books. The nearest thing to it is that many of the books have a preview available, and also a link to Amazon and other sites where you could buy the book.

You have to make sure that the Date Read field is filled in with a date in 2017

helena cover with the challenges it's not what books you are going to read they are the books that you have finished. Then when you set the finished date they will appear in your yearly reading challenge.

Is this just my opinion or the adding quote feature is a mess? 1. Everytime I need to add a new quote I'm being tortured by the recaptcha box; 2. I cannot edit my quotes (for typos, new info...); 3. How can I organize the books I've read the way I want to ? Among the options to order by is "position". Does this mean that I can choose the position of every book, and that way fully control the order of every entry on my list? Because that is what I want! But I can't seem to be able to do that !! The point is that I want to order the books I've read (as well as those I want to read), by series, and within that, chronologically. I want all the books in the Songs of Ice and Fire series listed from Book 1 to Book 2 Part 1 to Book 2 Part 2 and so on to Book 5 (and then to the Book 6 and Book 7 that I "want to read"). Then I want to move on to another series, and list that series the same way. I also want to be able to place the prequels in any series in amongst the main series, wherever I want. I don't want to list the books by author, but randomly within that. I don't want to list the books by publishing date or by date of reading. I want to have full control of the order, simply placing each book where I want it. That way it's easy to see the flow of a series, where I am on the list and what bokks are left to read, and all the entries of every series would be next to each other. HOW TO DO THIS ?!?!?!!

But now if you click on your challenge pages, on the side you'll find book recs that suits your taste that exact year. That recs feature is more helpful for me because my reading taste every year keep changing--I could be a fantasy reader last year and this year I'm a literature nerd--and with this I could find more precise book recs based on titles I read that period.

You can unfollow from their profile or you can go to the Friends section, click edit and remove any users from the friend list
