If you want to elevate your fishing, these are the hacks you need to know! From shore angler to boater, this is for you! Matt, you are the best bass fishing educator on KZbin. Frankly, you are a gifted optimizer. You not only are the best optimizer for equipment and tackle, you know how to optimize your explanations so they are unbelievably effective at revealing the strategic and tactical applications--Ergo your name, "Tactical Bassin'". You are da' man. I have grown old watching your videos and just sold my skeeter because my broken old body can't do it anymore. Thanks for the help along the way that allowed me to make hay while the sun was shining. May you and Tim experience many blessings as you forge ahead.

Thank you so much for the support through the years and for letting us be part of your journey! Giving up your boat is difficult, but it's also a sign of a life we'll lived. I hope more opportunities than you anticipate come along to ride the back deck of other's boats... the biggest bass of your life may still lie ahead.

I can’t stress enough how invaluable I have found your insight over the past few years and I truly hope that this comment reaches you. I have always been a step ahead of my angling peers but I’m neither exaggerating nor stroking my own ego when I say that with your channel as my primary source for new insight the difference is astounding. I didn’t think it was possible given my passion for fishing from the start but I’ve come to enjoy it more than ever, you should both be very proud of your contribution. Maybe one day I’ll be fortunate enough to thank you in person but until then I hope this reaches you and my most sincere gratitude is conveyed. Thank you and my best to you and yours

Minnkota terrova is half the price of an ultrex and has spotlock. Upgrading from a basic edge to the terrova specifically for spot lock is game changing, especially on a 17' aluminum bass tracker. I feel like the terrova doesn't get enough love when the ultrex is getting pushed for an upgrade. You can also get a 12 volt system so you don't need to add more batteries or weight to your boat. Spot lock is the deal especially when having to re-tie or stay on a specific offshore or specific target.
@aaronitchkawich3565
@aaronitchkawich3565 14 күн бұрын
I co-sign on the Terrova. I liked it way better than the Ghost (don’t recommend). I do have an Ultrex Quest now and it’s by far the best TM I’ve ever owned.
@motocrossmadman756
@motocrossmadman756 12 күн бұрын
The biggest reason that the ultrex gets pushed the way that it does is too big ones one the cable style foot pedal gives much better steering response if you’re using a foot pedal like that I think that’s a huge plus the other option is it’s very easy to mount forward facing transducers 360 all that stuff on ultrex vs the terrova
@Stuntman2K3
@Stuntman2K3 12 күн бұрын
@@motocrossmadman756 I agree! I just feel like the terrova is a good stepping stone when wanting the best feature in my opinion spot lock but don't have the funds to jump up to an ultrex. Ultrex I am sure is superior in every way though. The foot pedal on the terrova is also very low profile so if you don't want to cut a hole in your boat floor to do a recessed mount it works just fine as is. The terrova just seems like a really good feature packed bang for your buck. Even comes with remote.

The safety tip about being able to cut hooks is invaluable, definitely picking up some of those cutters. The mapping as well since I run a little 9 inch on my kayak and lake levels have felt crazy this year with all of the rain and flooding in our area, being able to adjust current levels to reflect on the graph would be awesome. The other one was about those thin tackle boxes. I do a lot of bank fishing as well and tackle management when all you’ve got is a backpack is hard as I hate being caught without the right gear. Love the videos, thanks for all of the info Matt.

I run Ionic Lithiums and learned something that may apply to other brands...I heard that you can run your electronics on your trolling motor batteries with no interferanc due to the BMS (battery management system)..I tried it and it works no interference whatsoever which is great due to small space I have in my boat..Hope this helps someone with space and less spending money..

1) I carry burts bees bee's wax lip balm (honey flavor) for my lips, but also use it to apply braid leader knots. Just a tiny dab when it gets a bit frayed., 2) Ryugi hook stocker II is a great organizational hook wallet for the shore, kayak, or co-angler. Gamakatsu used to sell a similar wallet but think it's discontinued? At any rate, the ryugi ziplocks are robust and you can fit the cardboard backing for easy item number reordering. They come in different colors, too... I have two; one in black and one in white.

I have Texas Tackle Pliers and they are exactly as Matt said ( at least for me) they work with no issues. I have the executive, the size smaller and the large size ( although I think I went overboard with this purchase since I can change the biggest hooks/split rings I have with the executive size). I have repurposed my clear boxes for in house storage of baits and also for lure making materials such as skirts. I need a good net with maybe a medium hoop size ) or whatever would handle at best a 10 lb bass) and an extendable handle since I’m on shore.

One more tool you need! I carry a pair of landscape plant nursery hand pruners. These pruners are not much larger than pliers. Often if your lake has lots of trees and plants reaching over the water, you can accidentally cast a lure into the limbs. Instead of trying to untangle your lure while banging your trolling motor on the bank, just float in, and cut the line tangled limb and pull back out into the lake. These hand pruners simplify unhanging your lures.

I’ve kayaked for years and years and those Buzbe boxes are truly waterproof. I also get plastic ammo crates that have a gasket and latches from Amazon and keep my packs of hooks and 3400 size boxes in them. You can flip the yak and everything will still be dry. P.S. those hook cutters are essential along with sunglasses to not get hooked in the eye. I told my wife that for years and then one day while pulling a lure free it shot back at her face. She put her hand up to block it and got some thick trebles in the hand. I said, now imagine that was in your eye. It’s been sunglasses ever since.

One other thing is the Power Pole Charge battery charger. I installed one on my boat. Every time you start the big motor it charges all of the batteries. You can also specify how much charge you want to go to your trolling motor versus the big motor/electronics battery. It also has a jump start feature; if the big motor battery gets too low it diverts power from the trolling motor batteries to start the big motor. You control the whole thing using an app on your cell phone. Good product.

I know you guys have to be careful with what you recommend, but I'm very curious about the cheaper lithium options you see on Amazon like LiTime, Power Queen, or Redodo. Do you have any experience with those? Seems like a lot of guys are having good luck with them. It's hard to justify the Dakota price tag if these are options. Thanks for any reply!

Anybody else just never kept a net on their boat? I don’t tournament fish and mostly couldn’t care less if I lost a fish or two at the boat. It’s just always in the way and rarely do I find I need one. Obviously if you live or die by boating fish you need one.

Hey Tim I have a question for you. If you only had the money to buy power poles or a trolling motor with spot lock then which one would you purchase? I know a lot of people will ask if you fish shallow or deep and I get that but I kinda like both. Although I probably do fish shallower more often. Thanks
@tacticalbassin
@tacticalbassin 14 күн бұрын
The whole "shallow vs deep" thing is real. If your home lake is typically less than 6', probably anchors. If it's deeper, you're going to get way more out of spotlock. Personally, it's spotlock for me 👍🏼

@tacticalbassin
@tacticalbassin 10 күн бұрын
The only fish we flip on deck are fish we accidentally fail to catch. If you watch closely, the vast majority of our flips are actually caught midair, and never hit the deck. Aside from that, we are extra careful with big fish and they're all netted or lipped 👍🏼 We aren't perfect, but fish care is very important to us.

Matt, I'm in a 10 foot kayak. I cant bring alot. I don't even bring a net because I don't have space for it. Is there a crate I can use to optimize my boat? I'm using a milk crate with 3700 clear storage boxes. and I can only fit 6 in it.
@tacticalbassin
@tacticalbassin 14 күн бұрын
The Plano weekend kayak crate is the best solution I've found. It's still a milk crate, but let's you put more gear on/around it
@allereb
@allereb 11 күн бұрын
@@tacticalbassin You'll probably want to switch to 3600 boxes if you use this. The lid wouldn't be able to fold over with 3700s. I have this though in my kayak and love it compared to the price points of the YakAttack crates. Also, follow Matt's tip of using thin boxes were you can. Right now, I think I have 5 full size and 2 thins but varies depending on what I want to take -- 3 thins take up the same space as 2 standard boxes. That still leaves about a third of the crate open. You could wedge even more boxes in there, I use to bring a jacket, snack, long needle nose and cutters. The top/side pockets are great for holding line, extra lures, etc. I also have 2 3-rod holders attached to the back/side of the create and the bags don't really interfere. Another thing I do is use a Plano KVD Speed Bag for all my plastics, you can fit a ton in one of those. I keep that up front so it doesn't eat up space in your crate. I also use a Flambeau Pro-Angler Tackle Bag for shore fishing so swapping the 3600s into that is a breeze (and again, those thin boxes make a big difference).

According to the Minn Kota website, if you have a non-Quest Ultrex and run lithium batteries, running it on 10 for extended periods is harmful to the motor. The same goes for if you spotlock in heavy wind/current with that set up. Anyone else see that and hesitate to buy lithium batteries?

Something that I'm not sure you realize: 3 12v 100aH batteries in series are still only 100aH worth of capacity. Connecting batteries in series increases the voltage, but not the usable capacity. Connecting them in *parallel* will increase usable capacity, but not the voltage. Imagine you have a bucket of water (this is your battery) with a pipe connected to the bottom (the size of the pipe is the voltage). Let's say we have 5-gallon buckets, and they drain 1 gallon per hour. These are 5 gallon-hour buckets. If you need 3g/hr of flow, you can use 3 buckets so now have tripled your volume of water *but also tripled flow rate,* so you still only have 5 gallon-hours of capacity. Each individual bucket doesn't care about the bucket next to it, it still drains its one gallon per hour no matter what. Or, say you have a single bucket that drains at 3g/hr, but comes from the bucket factory with a rating of 5 gallon-hours. We can conclude that it must have 3x the amount of water as our standard 5 gallon bucket, since the time-rating of the buckets is equal. The 3 buckets strapped together are your 3 12v batteries in series, the one super-bucket is the 36v battery.
