6 Minute Review: Brocock Ranger XR Ultra Compact Airgun

I'm always on the search for the ultimate compact airgun hunting rig, and the Brocock Ranger XR Ultra Compact Carbine air rifle appealed to me right away. This is a very compact design with a folding stock, that can be easily slipped into a backpack for stealthy transportation to your shooting site.
The Brocock Ranger XR has an adjustable trigger for a crisp shot release, a .22 caliber 11 shot quick-load magazine (13 shot in .177) and a single-shot tray also included. An AR compatible buffer tube and folding stock mount are part of the Rangers list of features.
This gun offers adjustable power and outstanding accuracy utilizing Brocock’s proven HUMA-Air regulator and floating hammer system. I had a chance to use this gun in the field before SHOT and it has range and hits hard, an excellent small game gun. It can deliver up to 20 fpe and generate 30 shots per fill, very good considering the small dimensions of the air reservoir. A three-position power adjuster with a hammer dwell adjuster is standard, allowing the hammer spring to be accessed and adjusted when the stock is folded. As I have frequently stated, having these adjustments on an air rifle is tantamount to handloading a powder burner. My only wish with this great little micro-carbine would be to see it in .25!

Quality made lil PCP. I have the Bandit .22 set up like this and this size platform really comes in handy for inside work like barns, bldgs, and distances under 50 yards. Cool video and some really nice groups!

I simply love both of my Atomic XRs… I shoot them almost everyday from 15 to 64 yards practically. And for fun out to 102 yards. I have hundreds of kills on small pest birds, starlings and sparrows, on my first Atomic. A super sweet PCP, 50 strokes from my hand pump for three magazines. I could go on and on and on…

That is an interesting question, in terms of performance they are quite close. With respect to build quality, the Ranger uses higher quality materials, has an overall better build quality, offers more adjustability, cycles more smoothly and quickly, has a better trigger, and is more compact (though heavier). However, it is a substantially more expensive gun. It is also worth noting that I had done this recording a long time back but had lost the SD card and just recently found it. I no longer have the gun, so can't do a direct side by side such as I intend to do with the NOTOS and Jet. I think the Ranger is a very nice little gun, if you can afford it and want an heirloom quality piece, but you can get close to the same performance at a lower price point with the NOTOS.

But I can certainly relate to what Jim Chapman is saying about how Brocock is essentially heirloom quality.I own three Brococks,and know exactly what Mr. Chapman is saying when he says these cheaper guns can get close to the same performance of BRK perhaps( and thats debateable) , but these Brococks are simply heirloom quality.I would agree with that statement 100%.

Not sure which critters, some yes some no: deer, African game, rabbit, squirrel, turkey yes.....pigs sometimes......prairie dogs and predators no. I often give pigs to other hunters, and donate deer to hunters against hunger type of programs when traveling.
