Airgun Review: Shooting the ultra-compact Evanix REX BA 35 caliber carbine

A review of a new Air Rifle, the Evanix BA .35 caliber carbine. This bottle in the back gun features a unique cocking mechanism, actuated by levering the trigger guard, it's fast and ergonomic. This is a great little mid range predator hunting rifle.
I'll show you a pig that I head shot with this airgun, unfortunately it was almost dark so I've had to enhance the lighting digitally, so the quality is sub par but it gives you an idea of the knock down power.
I'm taking this carbine on another pig hunt soon, so will be following up with some footage in the not too distant future!
What I like about this compact little carbine, is that it combines power, accuracy, shot count, fast action, light weight, and ergonomics in a minimalist tactical styled hunting rifle. This one os going to appeal to predator hunters!

Awesome! I just bought the Evanix Rex p with larger bottle and buttstock to turn it from pistol to mini carbine 50 Cal. Bought an extra carbon fiber bottle to have extra aur.Should all fit in a back pack for remote hiking / hunting trips ! Can't wait to shoot it

Hey Jim have u had any trouble with fitting certain weaver cope mounts to that rail, mine seems like it a little skinnier, only 1 of 5 sets of mounts fit it

Hey Jim ... I have the regular 357 Rex. On the tank it says 225 bar max, yet all reviews say 3000 psi... is it safe to run at 225 bar? Also, what kind of energy were you getting with the JSB's?

I believe valve has to be changed to use larger 4,500 psi carbon bottle and buttstock.However you can keep original skinny bottle and get an extra skinny bottle and use it stock and put buttstock on it I believe .I got carbon bottle and an extra one to carry in back pack for my rex p 50 mini carbine

Cheap Shot The bag comes from Airguns of Arizona, and it's the coolest tank cover/carry system around. The only problem is they sell so fast they go out of stock pretty quickly.

Hello Jim...I have the standard Rex... had difficulty finding a cast slug that would shoot.. did you have that issue? At any rate, I designed one that seems to shoot in 35s that don’t normally shoot cast slugs well. My gun shoots JSB 81 into 1 1/8” at 50 yds, at 855 fps, for about 125 ftlbs... my cast slugs are 132 grn, will shoot into 11/4” at 50 yds, at 740 fps, for about 160 ftlbs.... I think this is a way better option for deer and pigs... I recently took a 158 lb( live weight) hog with it at 50 yds. It was quartering away, penetrated a total of 15”... if you ever want to try them let me know.

Rudolf R I think it's mostly economy of scale..... Just not that many lefties (compared to right handed shooters) to justify the economics. I'm actually left handed, but shoot a rifle right (and a bow left, go figure) so share the frustration in many areas. The trigger guard cocking, access to loading port, and butt stock configuration make this a good gun for a leftie.

Chris H I grabbed that seat out of my fishing kayak as I passed through the garage as an afterthought, but it worked very well. Not only for keeping the backside out of the mud, but providing a stable shooting position.

357 round ball would be similar to your cowboy cap and ball revolver and it's a lot cheaper to shoot

Hi Ronald, will get all the chrony results posted on my website in the next week or two. My notes said to fill to 200 BAR, but the Evanix engineers shot me a note this morning telling me to fill to 250 BAR, so I need to redo everything....

I believe so, and even if there is a slight difference I don't believe it would be significant. You would have to do some homework to ensure you have the projectile you rifle prefers.

From doing my research that is the gun I would like to get, But this waiting stuff is old, I think I would like to get the smaller tank so the eye to scope would line up better and be able to top off easier with a hand pump. my purpose would be night time coyote hunts in the woods, not urban environment. Be able to make a couple of different sets on the small hunting club. I guessing April 24th is the day it will be for sale....Just a guess and only a guess. Or when you and Rick quit playing with that one send it on down, I'll test it out also. ; )

There are a couple I like: the UTG True Hunter IR 3-9x40 AO is a 1" tube and has a mildot reticle for about $100.00. It's a good value for money and I think a good magnification range tp match this gun. For a bit more money, the Hawke Airmax 3-9x40 AO has an etched reticle with multiple airmpoints that has very good low light performance for around $200.00. Both of these would go well on this rifle, or any PCP for that matter.

At first I would say your crosshairs are a little to the right on 50 yds but when you did 75 yds you where in line with it pretty nicely also nice vid

You are right. When I zeroed indoors at 20 it was spot on the horizontal, but was shooting right when I got outside. Wasn't sure if it had shifted or I was pulling when shooting off sticks rather than bench. I'll fine tune it when I get on a serious range testing session, this was more a "do I trust it to hunt" session. Thanks about the video, I just noticed that my last video I'd accidentaly changed the rendering settings... back in HD now!

Hi Kevin, It gives higher shot count with same maximum power output...... I haven't tested. but would think that you'd maintain a higher velocity for longer though.

While I like this gun I need more experience with it.... the .35 I've taken the most predators with (coyote, fox, and bobcat) is the Sniper Carbine, and this is probably my choice for a close/mid range predator gun. For longer range guns I really like the American Air Arms Slayer, for a high power .357 shooting slugs. And while not a huge fan of the Crosman Bulldog as far as looks, I can't fault the performance, and it costs about 1/3 of the Slayer.

Thanks for the info. I am just getting into pcp. I've got maurder in 25 cal. I do a lot of calling for coyotes and wanted a good 35 cal for it. My biggest problem is being left handed and some guns are not user friendly for us backward folks. Do you think the sniper would work for me?

Jonathan Wren I think it could work, but the side lever might be a bit awkward... Probably less so than a bolt, and at least you don't have to worry about the gun spitting hot cases at you!

Why is gamo selling it under their name and not evanix?

Evanix has an OEM agreement with Gamo for certain guns, who wants to label them under their own brand. Not a bad idea on their part, as Evanix puts out much more innovative guns than does Gamo. It helps strengthen the Gamo brand, and Evanix wants sales distribution for guns not carried by their importers....this is pretty common, it is what made Beeman a powerhouse back in the 70-80's before the wasting set in.

I can't find the notebook with my results but will keep searching for the data, have it somewhere. Got a couple dozen notebooks with airgun stuff, and no filing system.... On the other hand, I was straightening out the storage locker and taking inventory of my guns last weekend and came across this cool little airgun and thought I might like to se it up for some nighttime predator hunting.

I think I was getting around 160 maybe with some 125s I think , not 100% sure if weight was correct but it was close . Definitely not legal for Tx whitetail

My purposes are not defeated..... it is not very frequent (like never) that I shoot 10-12 hogs or coyotes in a session, without a return to the truck. I do have small CF buddy bottle that will give me a few refills and weighs very little, but I don't often pack it. BTW: many mid bores get fewer shots.

Please review on Shot count per fill and it's velocities first. High shot count upto 500 per fill and 2000 fps will be a game changer in the world of PCP's. 😀 Without magazine is flawed by poor designing.

They could try......but there is an anti-bear trap that blocks the trigger from firing until the cocking arm is closed.

I disagree. It is certainly not a competitive target group, and the roundball was not so great, however the 50 and 75 yard groups with diabolo pellets, and especially the 10 shot 75 yard group in an unregulated gun off sticks, was fine for my intended hunting application. I have several other 30 caliber guns that will do better, but I reckon that if I can put my shots into the intended kill zone, I'm good to go. Out of curiosity, what is your bench mark?
