I'm MOST amazed by the center point scope. Not bashing CP or trying to sound like a snob. It's just that usually you see an optic that 50% or more the price of the gun. If anything I give you extra points for that one!
@americanairgunhunter5 жыл бұрын
A while back I dropped that rifle and banged it up a bit, but destroyed the scope. I had that CP scope laying around and put it on as a temporary solution. It worked, I'm lazy...... and there it sat. I've got five Texans in various calibers and configurations, and I use a few different scopes. But along these lines, I often use UTG/Leapers scopes..... they are low cost but several have very respectable optical quality for the price, they are very rugged and they have some compact versions that I like on the carbines. And counter-intuitively, I sometimes prefer the courser mil-dot reticles because they record better when I'm using a scope mounted camera.
@spirorevelis71005 жыл бұрын
@@americanairgunhunter Hard to believe but I have that same scope on a hatsan 125 spring, springer. (Non Vortex). It has survived over 5 years and likely 1500+ shots of pure abuse. Have never had to readjust. Has never lost POI. It's far from the best optical quality but it just goes to show that you don't have to always spend a fortune to achieve basic functional utility.

Jim, Don't change a thing about your videos. I watch them all. I watch what I watch based on what I want to hunt. And I try to get as much information I can to make my decisions so please pack in as much information as possible. Right now I'm planning on taking my kids on their first hunts next year. We will be hunting iguana, rabbit, raccoon, and small pig hunting. Trying to decide on caliber and type of air rifle right now. Initially was looking at Gamo Magnum Swarm gen2 in .22 but then thought about the Gamo Urban pcp. I might just get both. Benjamin pcp's are also pretty attractive and are in the same ballpark but also have a .25 so I was wondering if I should go for the .25 Benjamin Armada or Marauder because they are very customizable or should I stick with the .22's that I already have and just limit myself to head shots, smaller animals, and closer distances ie less than 35 yards. Would love your feedback. Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

Hello sir, where is the best shooting point for a deer hunting bullet with a PCP rifle?
@americanairgunhunter2 жыл бұрын
My preference is a heart/lung shot. The deer may run a short distance, but it is the surest way to make sure they go down. Keep the shot low and behind the front leg. If you hit high the deer will still go down, but might take longer to bleed out and leave less of a trail if you need to track.

Great hunt, you had enough ft lbs to drop them with a lung or heart shot btw. 50 ft lbs is enough to break almost any bone and definitely kill. Think arrows, you can legally kill a deer with only 40lbs of draw and 30 ft lbs. Just need to be withing 40 yards.
@landonemory79024 жыл бұрын
J S i would want a lot more than 40 ft lbs to take a body shot on a 200 plus animal. Normally you want ft lbs equal to animals weight, now that’s not always the case but worst case then you have the extra power Incase you make a bad shot.

Did u really put a Centerpoint scope on a Texan?
@americanairgunhunter4 жыл бұрын
I've got many great scopes that I prefer: Vortex, Game-Getter (Custom), Hawke, MTC, Athlon, Leupold, and others on the higher-end, also lots of UTG for more wallet friendly optics. I'd slapped the Centerpoint on the Texan to try out some new bullets, because it was laying around not being used. Then due to some logistics issues, I needed a rifle on short notice. Not my first choice in a scope, but there was plenty of light, shots would be inside of 75 yards, and didn't want to waste time swapping and re-zeroing. Even though it's only OK, (the reticle and glass are ok in broad daylight).... it is probably the worst scope in my gun room....but I was confident it would work well enough in this scenario.
@josephmetzler13354 жыл бұрын
Oh I understand. I happen to have a centerpoint laying around myself. It was my 1st scope ever before I got addicted. U seem like a pro so I just couldn't understand why that would be ur scope of choice but they will get u by in a jam. On my centerpoint the paralax is so hard to move I'm afraid itll break

americanairgunhunter I fully understand! I have nothing against any shot preference someone takes as long as the game is hunted ethically. I just love the challenge of headshots, especially small game. Excellent video as always!
@americanairgunhunter4 жыл бұрын
No doubt head shots can turn their lights out fast..... Ironically, I found that when shooting some critters (jackrabbits especially) they can flop around before the nervous system shuts down, and it gets so bloody I can't use the footage (not a problem if you're not filming). Not always, but happens enough. A lung shot the rabbit might run 15 yards, but then it just tends to fall over dead. On the other hand, squirrels in trees I like head shots because they either drop down dead or flop out of the tree. With lung shots they can make it to their dens before dying, then you can't retrieve them. I know a lot of guys that only do head shots on small game. When talking about big game their is a whole other argument and conventional wisdom on never taking a head shot. On this topic I have my own shots, but take a "to each his own" view. Appreciate your comments!

Not a geography expert, went by definition of N. Residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex generally consider North Texas to include the area south of Oklahoma, east of Abilene, west of Paris, and north of Waco. “ I was actually well north of Abilene, closer to OK.
