OTHER COOL INFO I WAS TALKING ABOUT AT THE END:
1. The giant tnt was a visual effect using a relatively new minecraft feature: /summon block_display. You can find this command on the linked mcstacker site and you will find that its very useful for doing visual effects like this.
2. The tnt launching at a certain trajectory is making use of the "motion" nbt modifer. You can for instance summon a tnt of a certain trajectory by running /summon tnt ~ ~1 ~ {fuse:60,motion:[1.0,1.0,1.0]}. Play around with it and see what you can do!
