the “ugly stage” is usual experienced by people who start their locs on short hair or a big chop. of course, starting with longer locs like you did helps confidence, and it doesn’t feel as “ugly”

My youngest son started his dreads with 2 strand twist. He went from having his twist above his ears to the bottom of his chin in 4 months. I did the crochet method on his dreads though so I think it helped them loc a little faster (he has 4a/b hair so it took longer to loc)

One of my favorite things about locs is that even though you start it off in specific sections, your hair still does something new every day ❤️ you/your hair is absolutely stunning! Cannot WAIT to get my locs in on friday

You are cute as a button! Congrats on 6 months! It goes by so fast! I'm at 6 years now and locs definitely were the low manipulation style that helped me grow my hair long. My longest locs are waist length currently.

The split ends sound like dull scissors. The same situation happened to, I would trim then my hair would grow but I needed another trim. But I'm not a stylist so I could be wrong. I honestly love being loc'd and now I don't even need to worry about trims
