This video should be named “How exposure could kill you”, as you may get a million plays this way, but paid for none of them - so it wont put food on your table. And in the process you have made it clear that you are an advocate of free music, and promted your audience to expect that what you are doing is nice (when it’s free) but not needed (if you charge for it). It’s a perfect display of the limitations of a marketing perspective applied to music.

@@NoahPrince.2 I don't think that info is available to consumers. Succesful artists get millions of streams a day, and some zero. The only way to get more streams is to gain more real fans and followers. And in order to do that, 1) superior music + 2) good marketing strategy is needed

Thank you so much for the everytime tips. But as an afrobeat artiste, there are somethings that I find difficult to work for me. Maybe because this genre (Afrobeat) is not yet a primary genre, but yet a big one. Can you please make a video on how independent Afrobeat artists can promote their music successfully. Thank you 🙏🏽

Thanks for the content. Would love to see a video on how an artists can find producers to work with and what way to approach them. Also a video on what would be the next steps to take after finishing the writing process and having demos. Should we look for producers? Should we setup a band and arrange songs with a band? What is the best approach to bringing the music to life before releasing it? Thanks so much.

Something to bear in mind. Many TV production deals are done on a buyout..so you get a one off fee for all rights, you may get a proper royalty contract if you are lucky. If you can push for a royalty contract you can collect from PRS. The royalties add up nicely for repeats.

Burstimo I gotta give credit where credit is due. A lot of the music-advice on KZbin seems impractical, extreme, and like a sad attempt at ‘smashing the display-case and quickly grabbing as much jewelry as you can’. You guys deliver so much knowledge, and you break things down in such a comprehensive way, that it’s actually alleviating to listen to you. Thanks for doing this! I can tell you guys are well-educated, experienced, and passionate about what you do. I’m a freelance photographer and cinematographer, but my personal work is music; I’ve been rapping since I was 10 years old, and I’m finally ready to use my art to speak positivity into the lives of my curators, young and old. I’m currently working on what’s going to be my first album, and I’m happy to have found this channel at just the right time. You have no idea how helpful all of this advice is going to be.

This is so helpful, thank you! A question pertaining to pitching songs to music supervisors for film/tv....in my experience thus far it seems many will not consider a song for placement if it is already released...they seem very adamant about the song being totally unreleased and not public (and the songs that I have placed so far were all unreleased), but then I see film with songs that have been out before the film. What is your opinion on this? Would you recommend pitching to supervisors BEFORE the song is released and give that a good month or so to see if any bites come back before putting the song out? Or is this just potentially wasting time not releasing?

I've just discovered this channel. Thanks for this video. I was just wondering though, doesn't Casey Neistat use Epidemic for his KZbin music? How would music makers reach out to Epidemic and other music sites like it to get the ri music on their libraries?
@Burstimo4 жыл бұрын
Casey Neistat was v much an extreme example, I imagine he's very hard to reach. But to answer your question, you wouldn't try to get on Epidemic sound as they have their select producers, you'd either submit your track to a royalty-free KZbin channel such as Audio Network or you would approach them letting them know you're track doesn't have content ID. Maddy has done a full video on this topic :)

That's some pretty sound advice ..I have worked in TV /Movies for a longtime. The odds are stacked against you..but someones got to win the lottery right? @@SmooveBoyJay Yes that's a critical issue. I;'m assuming you're saying keep a record of who you give away free rights too, so that you don't STRIKE THEM. ......but what about the Algorithm? Doesn't BMI,ASCAP automatically pursue royalties on a track if it's copywitten and released?

I don't see the logic in spending time looking for opportunities to give my music away for free, as a lot of this video focuses on. I want to be paid for my music, that's why it's not royalty free! As musicians we are constantly being asked to give our music away ... I spend a lot of money on my productions and collecting royalties is one of the few ways musicians can make money these days. Approaching relevant music supes is a good idea, though... valid advice there. Just make sure your music is protected and registered so you get your royalties.
