I don't have TikTok, so I was unaware of the trend until I started seeing tons of x100v KZbin videos come up on my feed. I thought to myself "Why is everyone hyping up this camera". I saw a video from a creator who said "this camera made me love photography again". Ive been shooting for 15 years and the last 5 or so years ive been more into videography. But to anyone who sees this, and is thinking about getting this camera I want to say one thing.... get it. It's literally the best, funnest camera you will own. I'm not sure why but it makes me want to shoot everything I see and ive captured so many memories in the last 6 months with it. It's my favorite purchase in a long long time.

Loved your experiment with letting different people try out the X100V. Narrowed down the use case for this camera which is a pretty specific niche in the grand scheme of photography. Anyone who loved the switch from digital to film would probably also enjoy using the X100V. A ton of people would always ask me which camera to get and I've pretty much tempered their expectations to sticking with their iPhone since they aren't thinking about the entire photography process. I think with the ever evolving tech of in-phone software editing, people are going to be more reluctant from switching to something like an X100v which feels more "manual". Great video again!

Your comment reminded me of when a friend of a friend asked me for camera recommendations. She wasn't too interested in photography but wanted something to take photos on a big overseas trip. I recommended a Canon large sensor compact like the G1x because it was reliable, had good output, and a reasonable zoom, and could fit in her purse. She ended up buying an entry level Nikon DSLR because the shop assistant recommended it (I'm a full time pro but nevermind). She hardly used the Nikon on the trip because it was too big. She carried it with the lens OFF the body to save space! 😂 A year later, I was asked to recommend a small camera because she was traveling again. I declined because I knew my suggestion was going to be superseded by some shop guy again.

My first X100 was the S, followed many years later (and many other cameras later too) by the V. I agree with your point that we can also emulate whatever look we want in post. It’ll take some time to setup initially, but to apply it to each image will take about 10 seconds (you need a benchmark for the images you’d be applying to, though) It will take more time compared to having it in the camera, but the advantage is you can also do it with any camera + lens combination.

had an x100t for about a year and i loved the pocketability, but the AF was slow and in practice the rangefinder proved to be more of a gimmick than allowing me to anticipate the scene better. I sold it, bought a full frame DSLR, and with the money I made from shooting with that I bought an Olympus EM10 mkii and the lumix 20mm f1.7. It does practically the same thing as the x100 (minus the leaf shutter and high sync speeds), has much faster autofocus, a nicer viewfinder. If I ever get sick of the 40mm focal length, there are plenty of micro 4/3 compact primes around.
@sherwinclarencego1933 Жыл бұрын
Not at the inflated prices for sure... You can easily emulate an X100V with a ILC rangefinder from your fave brand (Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, heck even other Fuji models) and a prime lens having 35mm. Granted it might not be as pretty as the X100V and probably not as compact but for sure you're gonna save a lot of money and later on you can change lenses for added flexibility outside street photography.

i don't know how I stumbled over this camera, I am a Hobbyist, shoot with Canon, a 1DX (old!) and a 1Ds Mark II (yes, ancient!), so that's the bodies I really like. But I always thought of having a small pocketable camera, making some street stuff again, watched the Ricoh over the years, but this is out cause bad battery and no viewfinder (my eyes don't like that, getting older). So I saw this camera, looked videos, read something, played with it in a store round the corner which has it for rent...it actually has some of the things I want...it has an Optical Viewfinder, the Lens is in the end ca 35mm (the only focal length I use for years), f/2 is solid, the body seems to have weather sealing (at least combined with a filter). That its not available right now is actually a good thing, gives me more time and when it will be I can decide if it was just an idea or if I really want it. Still it's an expensive camera. And i`m not quite sure about the ergonomics...we`ll see.

Used Fuji prices have skyrocketed recently, so buying an older model is a lot more expensive than it was. My intro to Fuji was a $100 X-E1 that I played with until wanting a feature upgrade and sold it to get the X-E2, then did the same thing for the X-E3, each time selling it for a little more than I bought it for. But now those cameras and even cheaper lenses are selling for at least twice what they were a few years ago. But yeah, they all make gorgeous photos and are fun to use. @IanCassanova Жыл бұрын
That’s exactly why there will loads on the used market once it’s back on the streets when buyers realise the camera doesn’t live up to the hype. Fuji have a huge supply chain problem at the moment and obviously it’s affecting sales. It’s pointless having a great sports car for sale if you haven’t got any stock. Influencers on KZbin will lead you to believe (which is their job) that Fuji is the best selling cameras out there when in reality it’s far from the truth. I was in B&H the other day when I was visiting NY and the size of the fuji stand told me everything I needed to know, it was a tiny little space in the corner. Canon, Sony, Nikon are the big players & Panasonic not far behind. Fuji is a niche product that has great KZbin & social media interest.
@ovrxpsd Жыл бұрын
@@IanCassanova lmao the size of the stand is how you came to this conclusion? Wow. I do agree that they're more of a niche but they are more than capable of pro work, plus gear does not matter. i bet a skilled Fuji user would take way better photos on a super old XT-1 vs some unskilled guy with a Sony a7rv. Also, their GFX medium format line is incredibly good.

@@ovrxpsd Fujifilm does make really great cameras, but they are indeed still quite a niche compared to the other brands and they've been hit by the supply chain problem much more.
