15” M3 Air / 24GB / 1TB is my daily driver… for WINDOWS. I’ve used Intel MBPs with Parallels/Windows as my primary work (IT) machine for about 10yr, but I thought the M chips made this the end of that road. Boy was I wrong. I had NO IDEA until a couple of months the ago just how far Win11 on ARM has come. It’s pretty unreal. The performance and stability I’m getting out of this combo are stunning to me, and I’m shocked at just how many of the apps I run are ARM64 already and don’t need emulation. Yes, I know my M3 Air specs put it within $100 of a baseline Pro, but I just like the design of the 15” Air much better and don’t need HDMI or more TB. Anyway, can’t recommend M3 Air running Parallels with Win11 ARM enough, if you’re a Windows person.

I recently purchased a new 15 inch MacBook Air Laptop Computer. I am of the opinion that 8gb of memory is not enough, a person should purchase this computer with at least 16gb of memory. I purchased this MacBook Air to replace an old 2015 MacBook Pro. I purchased the 15 inch MacBook Air with 512gb of flash storage and with the maximum 24gb of memory. One of the reasons I did this is because with this System on a Chip construction that is used by Apple Silicon computers, the memory is not expandable. I'm running a Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 AMD (14") OLED with RTX™ 4060, 32gigs RAM. 7.1gigs SSD Read speeds. I paid 1,630.00 Canadian. Cheaper for sure. The only think MAC has is battery. I encode in Davinci with AMD selected as the encoder which syncs with the Nvidia GPU. I encode 4k video at an average 200 frames per second. That's Huge. Also I can game. If Windows were inside... I accept the chassis and tolerate the apple logo. However, each of the following reasons would prevent my purchase: - notch - glare display - small arrow keys - 256GB/8GB base configuration is too small - missing user upgradability
@theTechNotice6 ай бұрын
I get it mate!
@attika70Ай бұрын
Although think about it a little bit more. - Notch, while it might seem that it would bother you, I can assure you. You won't care about it, it is pretty much never in the way, and in turn you get a great camera. - Glare display is not an issue, first of all, a glare display will be the most colorful and clear, but also 500+ nits is plenty enough to not give you mirror effect - All laptops are missing user upgradability, except ram of course and SSD. But mostly you are going to use iCloud anyway, and the mac will optimise storage through iCloud. And for ram, while it's not a FIX, but it's a lot of help that the macbook uses memory swap.
@NoName-zf6nrАй бұрын
@@attika70 Your experience and perception about notch and glare are not, and will not, become mine. - Notch: I do not need any camera (or other sensors) so do not care whether the camera is great or bad; therefore for me, there cannot even be a reason for a notch to exist. From various review photos or videos of (Apple) devices with notch, I have seen that it is frequently in the way. I am extremely sensitive to perceiving irregular parts in design, such as a notch within the display area; therefore, it would permanently annoy me. - Glare display: I do not need the most colourful or clear display - quite contrarily, I prefer matte colours in, and view of, displays because I like matte paper printing in books etc. From photos and videos of thousands of reviewed products with glare displays and many personal handon views of products, I know that glare displays, and their mirror effect, always annoy me. This is so even for 1000+ nits and semi-matte displays. I always very much prefer matte displays. Nano-texture displays are similarly acceptable as to the view but they are more prone to scratching. It is false that all notebooks would be missing user-upgradability (hint: example Framework notebooks). In the early notebook years, much was upgradable. Now, thanks to the EU etc., things are moving slowly towards upgradability again. Your opinion about usage of clouds and iCloud in particular is not, and will never, become mine. The most extremely too modest hint: big companies disrespect privacy and integrity of user data. --robert jasiek

@@AlBICIDI interesting point of view! it really depends on layout and software to use - for ex. I got a 15 inch 16GB M2 MacBook Air with 512GB SSD. It works amazingly well for engineering work I do. What makes me regret the 16GB model is I'm stuck working on huge powerpoint presentations and unless I keep track of things and close what I don't need swap space is used more often than I would like. Sure, swap usage is normal but with an SSD that can't be replaced I would prefer not to put any more wear on the SSD than necessary. Sadly the MacBook Air is limited to 24GB RAM so at some point I might have to move up to a pro, but I really like the passive cooling. Overall though, it's an amazing laptop, but gets even more expensive when adding AppleCare to the cost. We also have an 8GB M1 MacBook Air with 512GB SSD. It amuses me to see people defend the 8GB model. You really don't need to do much to run out of 8GB RAM on that laptop. Bottom line, whether creating content or doing software development I've not found a laptop that I like as much so I put up with the downside of not being able to replace the SSD.
