Hi! I moved out due to it being unsafe as well! My apartment had a gate but somehow anyone was able to get in. There were really sketchy things happening around my area. Also I felt like the apartment wasn’t constructed well for the price. It looked like luxury but the floors were weak and you could hear everything via the walls. Not worth it!

Same here all your points are true. I moved to austin from Houston mid summer 2020. I’ve watched it go from a kinda hip welcoming place to a straight up dystopian hells scape. Everyone is so afraid of everything, it’s crowded, the weather/ allergies are bad, and it feels really unsafe here. Im a biracial male and I get hated on by a lot of people because I look a certain type of people south of the boarder but I’m not Hispanic…. This place is no longer artistic, weird , welcoming, or fun….. The music scene is dead and I have no reason to live here: it really doesn’t feel like home it’s to uncomfortable.

You make a lot of valid points regarding affordability and diversity (or the lack thereof) in Austin. I was a bit surprised that you felt so unsafe in Cedar Park -- it seems like such a pleasant, boring suburb! Austin is starting to feel more and more like San Francisco, and not in a good way. Personally I would take Austin's weather over Houston's any day of the week, but to each their own. 😂 Good luck to you in Houston!

I'm In cedar park love cp. I've always lived north. down south seems more questionable to live there. for single people the dating scene was wack, lack of diversity, the wack radio station, cost of living everywhere is trash. traffic. I avoid 35. 183 traffic on a Saturday was wild.

The crime rate in Houston is damn near double that of Austin. I ws just there last month and the number of high end prostitutes was insane. The girls literally talked about it like its a cashier job...weird. Its seems like you are just ready for a new place or to go home and save up and that's fine. We have all been there. I'm moving to The Grove next month and very excited about it. The restaurants, the amenities, its beautiful. I love the area and don't mind being a minority as long as the people are open minded, artistic, down to earth and creative which Austin is known for. Best of luck with wherever you decide next!

When you say Houston do you mean the heart of Houston? Is the crime rate crazy in cypress, Katy, kingswood, league city, Conroe, pearland? Before I continue to book my flights to visit I need the real RAW behind these area if possible. Also this may be strange but what area has the least amount of snakes 🤦🏽‍♀️

Hey! I don't live in Houston I just visit and yes it's the city. I think the suburbs on the outskirts are different like most areas. My aunt lives in Friendswood and they like it. I would just google the crime rate for the are before going. Austin is just smaller and overall a much safer city to live.@@raysaraye6063

I don’t find it to be too bad. Its not nearly as bad as LA traffic. Also I do think it’s affordable in comparison to LA. But if you come from LA New York or very large cities this won’t be bad at all. But if you come from less populated cities it might be bad. I do see that. Its all perspective. I find the suburbs to be nice, its not a long drive to Austin in my opinion. I personally never liked living inside the cities but even when I didn’t in LA the traffic and the amount of people made me nauseous. LA has 12 million people. But I do notice lack of diversity.But I don’t mind. Im not sure why people compare Austin to California though …having lived with both they aren’t very similar.
@vikm1341
@vikm1341 11 күн бұрын
Its nice to see another point of view though 😊 Maybe it’s because the physical land space of Austin is small… that’s why it feels crowded? Like in what ways have you experienced racism?

DON’T MOVE TO AUSTIN!!! I moved to Austin in 1971 to attend the University of Texas. The city was a paradise. Imagine this: 250,000 population with 50,000 college students and the main employers in the city were the University of Texas and a state government controlled by Democrats. We were the ‘liberal’ oasis inside of conservative Texas. Rents were cheap. I rented my first apartment for $200 per month. There was lots of live music, restaurants, and other fun things to do. People were easy-going, welcoming, and friendly. Traffic was quite reasonable. Rush hour lasted about 30 minutes. You could be the only car on a major thoroughfare. For me it was the perfect city-small enough to get around and escape but big enough to provide everything you needed. Now just the opposite is the case. The population of Austin is pushing 1,000,000 and the entire metro-population is almost 2,500,000. We are still struggling to get by on the road system that was largely in place when I moved here, and all the modern improvements to the road system turn out to be toll roads. We have a continuous rush hour that never stops. It can take hours to get to and from work and going anywhere between 7 o’clock in the morning until about 8 or 9 o’clock at night can be a very aggravating experience. Don’t think that public transportation will offer relief. Expect public transportation to take twice as long because the buses are stuck in the same traffic as the cars and giant ‘man’ trucks. That’s why drivers in Austin drive very aggressively and are angry all the time. Housing is very expensive and continues to go up. My friends that rent are paying $1700 to $1800 per month for one bedroom apartments. Soon their rents will be above $2000 per month. Wages are low. After all, Texas is a ‘right to work’ southern state. If you don’t have an elite high-tech job, expect to live in poverty. Live entertainment still exists but expect to be packed in like sardines and driving for hours in heavy traffic to get there and later to escape. Austin’s ‘liberality’ is eroding in a very hateful and draconian state. So, don’t expect to be welcomed if you move here. People trapped in a city that doesn’t work for them with no relief in sight resent the people that move here and just make things worse.

Hey there, my family and I are strongly considering moving to Texas. We are struggling figuring out an area to stay. We were considering Austin and San Antonio but I do not want my kids or myself to be dealing with any BS on the daily. After watching your video I just might have to consider Houston ( IDK ABOUT THE HEAT) We are coming from the Seattle Area and now I feel like Houston might be a spot we have to consider as diversity, cost of living, and RACISM are huge factors. Would you recommend the city of Conroe for a young African American family.

With all due respect, this is not a personal attack, and I hope this doesn't sound preachy, but why do you think there is more racism in Austin when compared to Houston? Here's what racism is according to an academic definition: "Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized". Just because you personally saw fewer people with darker skin and just because you were sometimes "the only Black person in the room", it doesn't mean there's more racism. Just because Austin only has 8% of Black population instead of 22% does not meat Austin is somehow 3 times more racist than Houston or something. That's not how racism works. Were you frequently denied employment because you had darker skin? Were there any real, tangible differences in the racism levels between Houston and Auston? You didn't mention anything like that, and yet you claim that Austin is a racist city. Saying "racism" when it's not due is basically like "crying wolf", it's actually harmful because there are actual places in the US that have a huge problem with racism, and Austin is not one of them, from what I've heard.
@pictureportia

“From what you heard”…. I actually lived in Austin and experienced racism. From white people leaving when I entered certain places to being asked to leave certain restaurants, I experienced racism 😃 I just didn’t feel the need to go into detail because I didn’t want to relive any of what I experienced. Again, this video was made based off of MY experience.
