Have you swapped out the treble hooks on your topwater lures?
If you have, that's awesome! It's much better for the fish and you're less likely to snag yourself or other items on your boat.
However, sometimes people catch fewer fish when they make this switch.
In some cases, it can be a good thing (many people catch fewer smaller fish, but more big fish), but in other cases, they're just catching fewer fish overall!
There are several things that can lead to this happening and I'll cover six of them in this video.
They range from using the wrong hooks, to putting them on incorrectly, to damaging them when getting snagged on structure.

What if the lure has "3" three spots for hooks, what about the middle spot ???

Been using inline singles for several years now. The best way to figure out the best size hook to use is to use the biggest you can without them getting snagged on each other or the lure's back. Pretty simple actually. Bit of a problem with the 'slim' type lures, need to use smaller inline singles so they don't get snagged on the lure's back - a bigger on on the rear is okay though. I fish over a lot of shallow rough ground and for everything but topwaters, I reverse the belly hook and haven't noticed that many misses; in fact catch loads of grouper on the belly hook rigged that way.

Another big advantage is getting them off quicker and back to fishing for more. I've found the hook-up ratio is lower as you mention, but the landing ratio is increased so an overall win from my experience.

I dont miss any more fish then with trebles, I hate trebs, and will never use another for as long as I live.

Did you know that up here in the northeast coast we have lures that comes standard with a treble on the front and a single, swaish hook at the rear? Except the single, swaish hook point faces toward the front instead of the rear as you prefer in the video. And they are permanently attached to the hook hanger wire (no split ring), unremmovable unless you cut the hook eye or bend out the hook eye. Do you think the position of the hook at the rear do not matter much?

The owner Zo wire hooks are by far my favorite. I only use two Ott but then again I don’t use large topwater lures.

Oustanding video. I was prepared to write a long comment but you covered virtually every point I might have made. The only thing I would add is that a hidden advantage to inline hooks is that you get a stronger hook for the same weight. Meaning the lure should act the same but be much less vulnerable to having the hooks bent by a stud fish that you are trying to get out of mangroves, from under a dock or bridge.....whatever.

Can you guys review different brands of braid I don't know what to buy I need castibility and tensile strength abrasion resistance doesn't really matter for surf fishing for me

Have you ever used two different size single in-lines on the same lure?

You can do this, however, be careful of how it may affect the action of the lure. If a hook is weighted differently than another, it could cause the lure to appear unnatural. It is best to use the same size hooks to maintain that consistency

If you want to buy I like spro but the best I’ve found is homemade 3 coil split rings using stainless steel wire wrapped around a drill bit. You can get a stronger ring with a smaller diameter, even if it does stretch because of the 3 coils you have an extremely low chance of it coming off completely.

The Owner website has a chart that tells you which size inline hook replaces what treble hook. Just gotta figure out what size treble hook your trying to replace

You do not need two split rings when using single inline hooks.

One trick is to turn the screw eye 90 degrees. Most Mirrolures have these. That way you can use regular bait or octopus hooks and don’t need the in-lines.

"Good for the fish"..... Spare me. If you wanted "Good for the fish." you'd be teaching, preaching and practicing BARBLESS. So sad it's not the gold standard. I've CAUGHT thousands of fish with my barbs clamped down. It's safer too.

Trebles definitely cause more harm and pose a bigger risk for both you and for the fish. Clamping down on barbs is a good choice for those that may not want to keep fish.

@@Saltstrong I clam singles and trebbles. Barbs are for bait use only because the bait will come off. I don't use bait.... so all of my hooks are clamped down as soon as I buy them.

Oh not me! Dude listen and just try it... Way-Lay it hard as you can about 15 feet up in a tree, (absolutely nowhere near your target) then once you’ve zinged your rod back and forth 4 thousand times, walk right to left and back a million times and swore at the tree for just existing to begin with... (I’m telling you this is where the magic happens) you lock the drag down until eternal damage and do the dirty walk of shame backwards! Once you hear the crisp line-pop, I’m telling you man there’s no better feeling. Ok... THE ONLY better feeling is hooking into a monster, have (what you thought) him break you off... only to see the end of your line peub’d up to confirm a bad knot!! Just try those two things man, works for me every trip... 🙄 Which is why I bring vodka!! Boom
