@@angelaburress8586 i agree. However if in thd code of points they were rewarded for such skills then people should stop doing what many may say watered down routines or do the watered down one to get into the finals then switch it up on in the finals. If the FIG or IOC but on an additional score for atristry then either add or average the 3 (difficulty execution & artistry) together. I could see them doing that to every event but vault for the women. I would enjoy gymnastics more if there was more artistry, especially on floor. I could definitely do the same for the men.

I think the FIG should make an originality bonus based on the routines at the previous worlds. Like they could look at all the UB routines in the event final and the all-around final at 2019 worlds, and any skill done by two or more athletes would be put on a list. (Maloney, Jaeger, Pak, full-in, etc). Then every skill not on that list would get a 0.1 bonus in 2020

The Dunn mount is gorgeous! Li Li's spin is beautiful, her execution was unreal, but what makes it iconic is what she did with it in combo, and the composition of her routine, power, grace, difficulty, artistry and flexibility - the whole package. My favourite skills on beam never seen now are, the Cradle, back extensions a la Miller, and the simple (though not in my mind) Valdez. How you get from skill to skill is important too. Teza was such an underrated gymnast, still mind-blowing originality to this day. Love your videos!

YES! And The Miller! The roll to handstand she did Was so fluid, so pretty. And there's a composition requirement that the Leo must touch the beam at a point in the routine(at least in the last few CoP's there was. Pretty sure it's still a thing) and to my knowledge, most just breeze through that with a quick lay down on the beam. The Miller rolls might actually add something extra!!

I know nothing about gymnastics, though I pleaded with my parents to enroll me for a decade. We lived in a rural area, and only one friend was blessed enough to have an “at-home” Momma (the kind that upgrades a childhood from GREAT! to bloody OUTSTANDING!!!!), and a Mom willing to do what she signed up for when she got pregnant…sacrifice. HOWEVER…I watched as much gymnastics as I could…on one of my TWO channels, 18 or 36, OR, on one of the 12 perfect days, a fuzzy channel 12! (Yup, we also had a “party-line” phone plan when we first moved deeper into the mountains. THAT was an experience. You shared a phone line with several other homes ((nearby??)). You pick up your phone, with its 50’ cord twisted around everything within a two room area, and rather than a dial tone, you heard OTHER PEOPLE TALKING!! I would quickly, and with the perfect manners that had been beaten into me, HANG UP. It meant other peeps on your line were USING YOUR LINE, and you needed to be patient and allow them to enjoy their conversation…even if it was a three hour convo with their granny! Other peeps were NOT so mannerly, and would LISTEN IN ON YOUR CALL. If you didn’t know this, ya best not be hiding anything, or be gossiping about the 7 houses in your 10,000 sq. miles of “hood”. You also prayed if you heard that click identifying someone picking up from another home, that it wasn’t Ms. swampy-britches, who would JOIN YOUR CONVERSATION, inserting stupid to the 10th degree info, just to get you off the phone so she could make HER calls. Some days she would just immediately start insisting you end your call bc you were nothing but a worthless kid, and she was CLEARLY, Queen of the Hood…in her OWN Crazyville, which resides in her own State-of-Crazy, in her frightening head. She would just loud talk, sing…the operas with the REALLY HIGH NOTES, spout things like “butter, butta, butta, butta-butta-butta-butta-butta, butta, butta, BUTTEEEEERRRR. Looking back, hilarious. At the time…I believe I may have acquired ptsd! Buttttttaaaaa!) Ok…every single “trick”, stunt, skill….worthy of the rest of us bowing at your feet! My favorite was the “Lili”! What a beautiful move. This SCORING BS is ruining an outstanding sport! Why create, when you will only lose points to keep the “organization’s” job easier. Ugh. This world where we are supposed to be so FREE? We are filmed everywhere, little private planes from the super rich are flown over our homes from dawn until dusk, purposely flying too loud and too low if you file a complaint, ok…too specific, but these artists are having their talent STIFLED to make it easier for SOMEONE else. What kind of BS is THAT? Outstanding creations ladies!!

Any skill rated A is considered easy, like a cartwheel on the beam or simply grabbing the low bar to mount. As the the alphabet progresses, the harder the skill becomes. For example one floor skill that is named after Simone, is rated J in which this means the skill is very difficult to pull off. The further down the alphabet a skill is rated, the harder it is.

The Li Li just looks so elegant and dramatic and it's just so eye- catching that it just has to be my favorite although if I ever attempted this skill, even though I'm a gymnast, I would probably fail, even after a bunch of practice

The last one, The Dunn, the mount onto the Beam. You are right though, the creativity and artistry are gone and it is just point scoring. i loved watching the brave moves and tumbles until the last year or so.

The Li Li gets props for its nod to hip-hop, but the Dunn mount is the most beautiful skill here. It's like a little story.

The Teza I and hip circles looked kind of different and cool, but seemed as if they would be very painful. They should make the beam an inch or two wider instead of making more difficult moves each year for these young girls to have to attempt and endure more injuries and harm.

I just wish the FIG would award originality and creativity more. The Dunn mount is just one of those moves that tells me I’m witnessing greatness. Elvire Teza is just a delight to see perform in any capacity. She’s so strong and confident in her movement. I know it wasn’t featured but I do think the Phillips mount deserves an honorable mention for beam. I’d finally like to echo a few other commenters and say some creative bar mounts would be cool to see.

Sanne Wevers didn't perform the exact Dunn mount in 2016, she landed on the beam facing backwards instead of forward. Maybe it's a little easier that way? It looks beautiful nonetheless.
Beam has changed so much... but is it for the better?
