6 Supplements that are a WASTE of Money $$ - Thomas DeLauer
1) BCAAs (instead, fast or use keto to boost leucine preservation)
Leucine & Insulin
In pancreatic beta cells, leucine acutely stimulates insulin secretion by serving as both metabolic fuel and allosteric* activator of glutamate dehydrogenase to enhance glutaminolysis
Leucine regulates insulin secretion by modulating adrenergic α2 receptors through the mTOR pathway - it increases mTOR
In other words, it regulates protein synthesis by activating mTOR in pancreatic beta cells that secrete insulin
Leucine & Insulin
Study - Journal of Diabetes
This study was conducted on 1205 subjects, aged ≥20 years, who were followed-up for a mean of 2.3 years
Dietary intake of BCAAs, including valine, leucine, and isoleucine, was determined and hyperinsulinemia, β-cell dysfunction, insulin resistance (IR), and insulin insensitivity were determined
The mean (± SD) age and BCAA intake of participants (43% male) at baseline were 42.7 years and 13.8 ± 5.1 g/day, respectively
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...
Insulin & Glucagon
Blood-glucose level begins to drop several hours after a meal, leading to a decrease in insulin secretion and a rise in glucagon secretion
Glucagon is secreted by the alpha cells of the pancreas in response to a low blood-sugar level in the fasting state - Insulin signals the fed state, glucagon signals the starved state
It serves to mobilize glycogen stores when there is no dietary intake of glucose - the main target organ of glucagon is the liver
In addition, glucagon stimulates gluconeogenesis in the liver
Ketones
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
2) Arginine - instead use Citrulline Malate
Citrulline is an amino acid that’s converted to L-arginine in the body, during the urea cycle and alongside L-ornithine
Supplementing with citrulline is actually a more effective way to raise arginine levels and enhance nitric oxide (NO) production in the body, rather than supplementing with arginine itself
Citrulline works better than arginine because it’s converted to L-arginine in the kidneys and increases the level of L-arginine in blood plasma
L-arginine is then readily available to feed into the nitric oxide synthase (NOS) pathway of NO production
Arginine is converted into NO, and increases blood flow and nutrient delivery to working muscles
3) Casein Protein or Beef Protein (instead use pea or whey isolate) Sunwarrior
Casein
Because casein digests so slowly, natural morphine-like substances in casein known as casomorphins, act like opiates in the body as they enter the bloodstream
Casein’s slow digestion rate also puts great strain on the digestive system
digitalcommons.molloy.edu/bio...
Beef
Beef protein powder isn’t actually made from cow meat, but is actually derived from the throwaway parts of a cow - comes from parts and pieces such as hooves, bones, skin, connective tissue, joints, hide, ligaments, ears, etc.
4) Weight Gainers - Instead just add calories through extra Omega 3 (doesn't store as easily)
If you are eating excessive amounts of DHA or EPA, these fatty acids are more likely to be incorporated into phospholipid bilayers than adipose tissue
The abundance of EPA and DHA in human subcutaneous adipose tissue is low, typically less than 0.2 for EPA and up to 1.0 mol% for DHA
Function
Omega-3s play important roles throughout the body as structural components of cell membranes
5) CLA (get it from animal sources)
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a naturally occurring trans fatty acid made from omega-6 essential fatty acids in the rumens or guts of pastured ruminants such as cows, goats, and sheep
Conjugated linoleic acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids containing both cis- and trans- bonds as well as double bonds The CLA cis-9,trans-11 is mostly found in foods, whereas trans-10,cis-12 is found in supplements
6) Cheap Testosterone Boosters (use boron)
Testosterone is made by the testes through a complex series of biochemical reactions - which convert cholesterol into testosterone (the adrenal glands also produce some testosterone)
Testosterone molecules are then secreted directly into the bloodstream - where many of them soon bind to other molecules known as sex hormone binding globulin, or SHBG
Boron
There we also significant decreases in E2, which dropped from 42.33 pg/mL to 25.81 pg/mL - the significant decrease in the men’s plasma E2 after 1 week of boron supplementation suggests a higher rate of conversion of total testosterone to free testosterone

@@ThomasDeLauerOfficial Hi there ! Can I take all of the mentioned supplements when I am on Keto ? Dropped 20kg body fat's using Keto was 128kg now I am 105-108kg ... Eating lots of fatty foods and a limit of 20grams of Carbs a day. Fasting 1 time weekly for a 24hrs. Considering your advice about fasting, and after new year I will move to the monthly fasting. Started working out a month ago 4 times a week - Full upper body , Lower body , Cardio walking. For that time I only used Liquid L-Carnitine 1000mg. So my main question is: Can I take all of the mentioned supplements together ? And is it good to get a combined products like vitamin d and boron ? I know it ain't goot to write about specific brands but here are my pick's that I can get my hands on in my country: HAYA LABS Omega 3 1000mg. / 500 Softgels HAYA LABS DIM / 60 Caps. KFD Pea Protein Isolate 0.400 And last but not least HAYA LABS Vitamin D-3 / 5000 IU / 100 Softgels Or Combined one with Boron SWANSON Vitamin D & Boron / 60 Caps EVERBUILD Citrulline Malate 3000™ 0.200 My main plan was to combine Animal Cuts and Stak but what I know about supplements... Perfect video ! So much good info from your channel ! Thank you man ! Keep up the good work !

Of course I’d continue to see my physician but what physician has the time to help us understand these supplements.... I’m always amazed how there are still few people who give these videos a thumbs down!

Amazing content as usual Thomas, thank you! I have some questions. Regarding BCAAs, are EAAs a waste of money as well and is there any benefit to using EAAs as an intraworkout? Does HICA add any benefit to it all or is it more hype? Lastly, I recently read about a study on beta ecdystrone, the report recommends WADA to add it to the banned substances list, which lead me to learn about a plethora of plant sterols, is there any chance you could do a video to shed some light on these for us please?

Robby K EAA’s are great to take pretty much anytime time! Morning, intraworkout if you’re training for a prolonged time past 60-90 mins! Great post workout especially for a muscle damaging session! Great before bed as well! Only thing want to make sure the BCAA’s within the EAA’s are low (Kion amino’s) which so far is the best EAA’s I’ve found. Thorne supplements makes one as well! But even for BCAA’s really depends on where and when to utilize these supplements! There is a time and place to utilize any supplement really! The ones Thomas has stated In this video I agree with! Maybe not the BCAA’s option but the rest yessir :)

I do take CLA & BCAAs, but I will stop and get my BCAAs from pea protein. Would you mind doing a video on "6 Supplements that AREN'T a waste of Money"? I'm guessing creatine, boron, selenium, L-citrulline, pure organic Omega 3 fish oil, and zinc would be your choices. Thanks.

I can for sure say that when taking bcaa's during workouts as an intra workout drink, it perserves muscle. Did not go into science that much, but when I was cutting two times without bcaa's with the same meal plan, I did lose some strength. But one time I did try to cut weight using bcaa's during workouts, and that time I did not lose any strength at all but even gained some in return. Tried it with couple of my clients, the results were the same.....just sayin

Hello Thomas DeLauer, Another great video! I have a question for you: Since you mentioned Boron I wonder which one you referring to Boron Citrate, Boron Aspartate or Boron Glycinate ? Most popular is Glycinate, but I found some brands offering combination of all Boron types in one.. I'm getting confused which one I should take. Thank you
@jamesallen6309
@jamesallen6309 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it matters. Boron is Boron. Maybe some types are better absorbed. But if you are taking 10-12mg per day you are bound to be getting enough. Your joints will thankyou too. Boron builds incredibly dense bones. The problem is there is much marketing bs in the supplement industry. For example, some manufacturers will add co -factors to a supplement claiming more potency and absorption. But if you look at the studies...wel,l some claims are based on one study that's advantageouss to selling a product.

All right genius, lemme help you. Estrogen increases with testosterone levels because of an enzyme called aromataise, which converts testosterone into estrogen. More testosterone = more estrogen. Estrogen is not bad for you. Stop being scared and start being informed.
