That’s a hard one for me, I remember I had an amazing childhood, but some of my best memories come from hanging out with a few family friends, and out of those memories the most memorable are me crashing through their fence with a dirt bike (all but the fence made it), and having a sleepover being moved from tent to house after my friend got stung by a bee in a precarious position. I really wish I had friends like I did back then.

Depression is something I genuinely wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. It’s legit the hardest thing I’ve had to deal with & it’s so disheartening when people tell you it’s a choice. It’s one the biggest mental battles that feels like it will never end even when everything is going well in life.

I just hate how you can't express yourself openly like you can with ADHD or other common mental traits. Telling people you might act a little off because of your depression just makes people super worried about you. But that's the opposite of what you want. You don't want anyone to worry about you or treat you differently. You just want them to know that's why you have your big ups and downs. and thats that. I don't need handouts, I can't change it, it just eez wha it eez. *hands in pocket whistling*.

Not always necessarily, some people desperately want and need someone to reach out to them and help them feel like they aren't alone and that they have someone who will listen to them. In my experience it has ALWAYS helped having someone to talk and even vent to, And even if they don't provide any insight or advice, its just comforting and relieving having that one friend to communicate with who will listen and let you get some of your emotional baggage off your chest. The sad thing is, most people going about their business want to avoid any kind of negativity at all costs, and not everyone has that one person to turn to.. The people who need attention the most seem to receive the least because of this.

Just always remember to take care of and value yourself! And don't be afraid to reach out to someone you can trust. Have a blessed day/night ❤.

Adhd is something one is born with. It’s not on the same level as depression. And you don’t have to tell anyone you just met that your suffering with a mental health issue or learning disability. Believe me I have both and tell no one unless I need to because it’s private. It should always be private and not the first thing you tell someone, unless it happens into conversation. Other wise it can look like one is looking for sympathy. Someone knowing about one’s mental illness should be special. It’s not for everyone to know.

The whole time i was suffering from depression, i felt extremely exhausted and always wished to rest in a peaceful place without anyone bothering me. I absolutely hated socializing with ppl and broke ties with them bcs of my frustration. So, I never really had anyone to talk to. That same time, my mom forced me to cut ties with my precious bsf. They were always willing to talk to me. And never talked to me only bcs they needed something. They would always tell me about their day, and it made me really happy about being important to that person. After 2 months of no contact at all, we ended up at the same school and class, and they started the conversation. But during those months, something had happened to them. Something that affected their emotions and somehow became broken. I wasnt able to be there for them, even when they were for me. Having depression was the worse thing i could ever experience. The only way I was able to recover was having a talk with my mother. I told her things I was experiencing, and thankfully, she let me get back with my bsf. I truly hope that the people experiencing depression and other difficulties will be able to find happiness again, and start anew.

I appreciate that you covered the topic of not always wanting to end your life but wanting to live differently, and the fact there isn’t always a reason for the feelings. For the past year I’ve had suicidal thoughts every 10-20 minutes and a lot of the time I didn’t actually want to. I was able to find a lot of comfort from this video, especially when you said there doesn’t have to be a reason for it. I’ve struggled quite a bit with it, and tried to deny that I had depression because I couldn’t think of a reason for it. The part about people needing to just listen and stay loyal really hit too. I’ve lost a couple of friends in the past because they complained or stopped talking to me when I wanted to talk about my problems. I haven’t talked to my parents about it yet either because just this year they found out that I have ADD, dyslexia, and I had to get a pre-cancerous spot removed; I don’t want to add more to that list right now.

As someone who has being suffering from depression for years, it is overwhelming when people barely even know from what you are coming from. And even if people know its background, it has been a tough life for me. I was laughed at for having depression by my mother, who is a doctor (and who has obviously known the medical side of this) and bashed at by my classmates (the majority who do psychology and learn about a ton of mental illnesses) just because I had asked for a tiny break from the teacher because I was suffering from a panic attack during class. Sometimes, people just *NEVER* learn...😐😐 And to all those who are suffering from depression out there: I know it sounds cliche to say this, but the sun will shine brightly after the darkest storm. Even when we are going through rough situations, there will be a day where we could all stay in a meadow of flowers when we will finally be accepted as who we are. So, don't end your life here, don't stop it. They say things will get better, but if you feel like it doesn't, take a pause from everything. Lots of love and cookies🍪🍪💖💖 and sorry for this looonngggg comment hehe😅

I went to psychotherapy a few years ago, and my therapist told me that "depression is like cancer for the brain". What she meant was that the "dark thoughts" is fighting with the "good thoughts", and are winning if untreated. It's not a direct quote from her why it is, but the part about depression being like cancer for the brain stuck with me. Just because of the similarities. Change the (hypothetical) cancerous cells in your body with the anxiety, self-harming, suicide-thoughts and/or dark days and it makes sense. Left untreated it can kill you, and treatment is still not a guarantee. And one thing I would like people to know about my depression is to trust that I can do my job. If I need help I'll ask. I've come so far to know my triggers, and I will let you know if I need help or not. Don't just assume I can't do certain things because I have depression, or that I need easier tasks than everyone else. Have faith in me that I can do it, instead of taking pity on me. It makes me feel even more worthless, depressed and anxious about my work than I already am (maybe that's just me).

I really relate to that last part. It sucks to see those pitying looks when you tell people you're depressed and doesn't help with self worth at all.

Ka lindi, Take responsibility for all aspects of your life. Avoid watching negative social media and comparing your life with neighbours, friends or relatives. Reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath and mind [brain] are closely related causing stress-anxiety. For a better life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations. Change happens from within if done regularly. Day or night, when taking a walk, sitting in a park, when reading, before sleep etc sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

I can relate to this, everyday just seems to get worse at every passing day. I have depression and extreme anxiety, (or at least what my therapist says) and everyone around me think it’s a big fat joke, which it’s not. My parents always criticize me for not talking to people and being alone all the time, and my aunt just says “just smile and everything will be ok”. I’ve even had a time when I was in a group project and was too afraid to join the talk. Then a person from another table came to me and said “You need to stop this, your not being very nice”, which really hurt me because I’m not the one who wants to see people suffer, or even just hurt people. But to those suffering: I know a lot of people had said it before, but thing will get better, and I’ll be here, wherever/whoever you are, I’ll always be here supporting you. P.S. Sorry for the long comment and stupid text

It’s okay, I don’t personally suffer from any of these things (I haven’t been diagnosed) but I understand how you feel. My family constantly tries to force me to interact with people and go to parties even though I constantly feel like I’m being judged/watched. Whenever I have to go to social events or do public speaking, I constantly feel nauseous and tired. My family just dismisses it as me being “selfish“ and “childish“ sometimes and I constantly worry about what could happen. Your comment isn’t dumb because you’re being brave enough to talk about it and showing your experiences which many people can relate to.

To further expand on how it feels like to have depression (combined with a lot of other stuff like being socially anxious and other metal illnesses), it's like a never ending awkward feeling in your stomach that you wake up with, if you even got any sleep, it quickly progresses throughout your body and by the time you get to school any and all motivation is gone and you just sleep through the entire day. Having to sit alone at lunch because you don't fit in and aren't social. Doing anything and everything to cover your face because you hate it so much. The list goes on, my good days are generally days where I don't see my face and don't get into trouble one way or another. Bad days on the other hand, I wouldn't even wish anything close to it on my worst enemy.

Of course, its very difficult to actually be able to find/know who THAT ONE person is. I don’t have any words to describe myself, and when I do, I get sort of happy. I mean, I found out my personality type, which makes me happy. Im not sure of it, because I’ve gotten so used to not acting like myself with anyone that now, I don’t know how to actually make decisions that I DECIDE, and now because of that, I’m frustrated because I can’t find any words to describe myself. I feel like so many things are clumped up in my mind, like a hair ball stuck in a shower drain, except I can’t seem to get anything out. No matter where I am, I can never actually seem relaxed. I can distract myself, yes, but I know that afterwards, it all comes back. On top of that, the environment I had while growing up made me hide emotions and feel good afterwards, so I kept doing that, actually not wanting to cry or let it out, that now when I want to cry about it, I can’t.
