The first group I dm'ed was so intimidating and at the same time freeing. They completely acknowledged my control of the story completely. They took ever ruling I made and went with it and always looked to me for final decision. Afterwords I learned that I messed up several rules, but since the way I ruled things didn't give advantage or break the game the ones who knew the ruling didn't care.

what are your thoughts on the concept of "setting as tropes"? for a lack of better terms , is something "too arthurian" or "tolkienesque" a setting that is becoming the new "you meet in a tavern..." faerun etc is not the only setting by any means , but it seems like sometimes people are under the mistaken impression it is the only available flavor offered...

Fundamental Components Homework: 1. mechanics controlled character till character controlled mechanics: No Game No Life. The mechanic is that every conflict is resolved by games. The characters, being master gamers, used this to begin conquering every conflict, and eventually the world. Changing this would change the narrative entirely. 2. Setting guiding the narrative: Zombie apocalypse shows/movies etc (they're mostly all the same, so pick any). Society has collapsed, zombies are everywhere killing people, there is no food or water or safety anywhere, and people are dying and struggling to survive. So naturally, nearly every story is about fighting zombies and struggling to survive in a wasteland that used to be civilization. It would be totally weird if it didn't.. like say a sit-com based in the zombie apocalypse. (though that would be really funny). 3. Character's action influenced the narrative: My Hero Academia. Deku decides to be a hero and save people. Therefore he goes to a hero academy, saves his friend, fights villains, and becomes a hero. Which in turn averts major disasters from ruining civilization (due to villains). If he hadn't decided this, it's possible the villains would have won against other heroes, or the story would be totally different at least.

i have not really understood how the narrative guide the GM, provided that the GM set the narrative. can someone explain that with some examples please? is perhaps that you have to commit to your own premise? but than again, isn't the premise the setting? i'm pretty confused :(

I have a question about the control chart. If the player's are in control of the Game Master because they could simply choose not to play, wouldn't they be in control of literally everything on the chart? Mechanics can't be in charge of everyone when there aren't any players to use the Mechanics. Tools, settings, narratives, and the GM can't do anything without the player choosing to play the game.

*The arrow diagrams are okay way to explain the. Interaction relationship , but it is also conceptually limited ( does not fully show all the layers of interaction & intensity of the various interactions ) .* *This is not a knock against Guy's Diagram .* *But a statement of a observation of the complexity of the relationship between the components of a Tabletop RolePlaying game & the difficulty of illustrating it & explaining the relationships .*

I know people try to be all philosophical about "what came first the chicken or the egg" the egg, it's the egg. There's no question about it. Now what came first a chicken egg or a chicken - well depends how you define a chicken egg. Is it an egg that "houses" a chicken or an egg that is laid by a chicken?

I wonder if you are aware that there are games which do not require a game master and thus leaves the narrative completely in the hands of the players... I for one enjoy sharing the narrative with my players, and not hog the narrative as game master.
