Love these videos Eddie. So much hidden history in the North East, everytime I go back I use videos like these or historic guides to re-visit where I grew up with new knowledge. Great example of this is I grew up in Wrekenton and Low Fell, yet I missed the fact a Roman Road ran through Wrekenton, there is a suspected Roman Fort on Ravensworth Golf Course and of course Bowes was the birthplace of the modern railway....

The hare was 'possibly' named after and installed in reference to Sir George Hare Philipson, a local doctor, Freemason, and friend of the cathedral’s architect. ....... I've seen it, but never knew the story behind it (which could be rabbit poop myths). I just checked atlasobscura, a great site for checking history or theories of weird items like the 'Vampire Rabbit' ..... It also said it was put there to scare off grave robbers too. ..... all I know for sure, it's creepy lol.

Eddie your videos are getting better and better, great content, unfortunately I am unable to provide you with the concrete information about the Hare, could put it down to joke in architectural form. Exiled Stanley co Durham lad.. Is pit yakkers still a term for the geordie mining areas of Durham ?
@TynesideLife2 жыл бұрын
Ooh I’m not sure mate. They were ‘Geordies’ through the 1800’s and early 1900’s and those from Co Durham have what is called a Pitmatic accent rather than a traditional Geordie accent. Of course colloquial slang is fluid snd changed over time. For example, people from Gateshead are if course Geordies, but also called Tynesiders. The point is, these names change all the time and nobody gets to decide what is snd isn’t the correct term
@joinmeonthedarkside22 жыл бұрын
@@TynesideLife i agree I think the term pit yakkers was with regards to the near strong geordie accent of North west Durham . Sound like the geordies from the pits . Evolution not revolution for next season. They’re building the club slowly from the bottom and will wait for the appointment of Dan Ashworth to help build the club.
