Merry Christmas, Eddy. Having spent two+ long years "daan saaaf", coming back to the bosom of my homeland was probably the best feeling in the world. Originally from Benton, Newcastle I'm now a resident of Gateshead but the warmth of the Geordies is something that is a constant over the years. I've always viewed myself as an unofficial ambassador for Newcastle, immensely proud of its heritage, dialect, and everything else that makes it an unique, wonderful city. Keep up with the excellent videos, Eddy I'm learning stuff which is always a bonus.

Another Great presentation, people overlook Newcastle a lot....but it has more charm than London, the people are genuinely friendly, the girls are very attractive (beer is excellent - bring back Newcastle Exhibition), architecture will surprise you, I recommend a trip (more than just one day & you'll need one full day if you take in Beamish open air museum alone, just a few miles south), to take in the sights, and there's always St James Park - Toon Army......

Fantastic video as always Eddy. The best 2 things of the city are the people and that your never too far from certain places. I live in the west end and it takes me 5 minutes to hit the motorway, 15 minutes to get deep in the countryside of Northumberland and 15 minutes the other way to get to the beach. I love Newcastle. My only beef is how they've appropriated the term Geordie. I was born in Framwellgate Moor and mostly grew up in Hebburn and never really questioned the idea that real Geordies were from Newcastle itself. I always thought of Geordie as being one thing and Mackem and Pitmatic as being different. It was only last year when I researched the history of the term 'geordie' for an American friend that I discovered the surprising truth. There is no 100% sure evidence of where the term originated. There are only theories. The Newcastle theory is just one and no more valid than any other. One fact is that the earliest written references to Geordies were actually about the miners of Northumberland and Durham. I feel a bit robbed. But as far as I'm concerned now we're all Geordies. Mackem, Pictmatic, Newcastle, Northumberland are all variations of Geordie accents/dialect and Newcastle maybe the urban centre of Geordieland but it certainly doesn't own it all.
@TynesideLife Жыл бұрын
Great message Barry. Check out the video I did about what a Geordie is and isn’t. I think you’ll enjoy it

I'm from a pit village in south east Northumberland and I consider myself to be both Pit and Geordie, they aren't mutually exclusive. I would still say Mackem and Geordie are mutually exclusive, but maybe some people from South Shields or Washington could weigh in on that
@Azog150 Жыл бұрын
I met an older guy from Newcastle who told me that they never used to talk about "Mackems" growing up and there was never the big Newcastle-Sunderland rivalry that there is now. He said it was sad that the divide developed, and put it down to football....

Certain channels including yourself inspire me to open up more but I do struggle talking to the camera and for someone that used to work in the large white building that's now been demolished on city rd its hard to believe eh. The one the Egypt Cottage was attached to' the cottage was called studio 6 by us lot because there was 5 studios in the building but most people used the Cottage hence studio 6. Your channel is going to grow without a doubt. There is so much to tell others about NE1 and its neighbouring towns and villages. Your becoming one of my fav channels, I appreciate your work. Davie
