This was very helpful. I’ve only been DP-ing since December and I’ve finished 7-all with round drills. Tonight I started my first DAC square drill canvas and I was in tears. I wish I’d watched this video first. Something that brought me joy for 6 weeks was now making me cry. I pushed and pushed and pushed to align those squares so intensely I actually caused my index finger to bleed from gripping the pen so tightly. Okay deep breaths. Tomorrow I will put on a bandaid and try checkerboarding and lifting to align and aiming for the corners. Thank you for all the great advice. ❤

Just today I emailed Diamond Art Club regarding drills that are too small to fill the squares. 36 colors only 1 that was not right. I received a response 10 minutes later...NO KIDDING-10 minutes!-to let me know they were sending out replacements. 10 Stars for Diamond Art Club!

Unfortunately I have the opposite problem-the drills are too big-it’s one particular colour-some are ok & others are a fraction bigger so it’s put my lines completely out of whack when I realised! I got a bit stressed trying to fix it so I went to some other colours to de-stress & I’ll let the company know about the problem & see if they’ll send me replacement drills. Thanks for your tips 😊

Since my last post I've discovered something which really helped me to keep my darker diamonds evenly spaced. If like me you have black sections with no discernible guiding lines, but you have within those large expanses of black, the odd 'other colour' that you know you placed evenly, then use that 'other colour' as your guide, and work around that colour in the black in a circle like motion (for example, if that :other colour is red then place a black top, left, right and bottom of that red as evenly as you can) keep on going like that, and your blacks will look so much.better! I discovered this just tonight, and was amazed at just how much more evenly my blacks look now than from before!! I wanted to pass this on in the hope it helps other diamond artists out there. I'm thrilled with my discovery! Before I was doing black first, then filling in with the other colours, I now know that by doing the other colours first, they can act as your guiding friends. Happy Diamond painting one and all.

Hi I'm relatively new to diamond painting, and find these tips really useful, however, I agree with you about not getting hung up on absolute perfection, which can turn an otherwise relaxing hobby into a stress fest. Initially I was getting stressed about diamonds that were not bang on straight, but then I thought, every imperfection is exacerbated by the light pad, when that goes off, any imperfections become nigh on impossible to see unless your examining it through a magnifying glass, and who's going to be doing that when it's hung on the wall? So I would say, aim for the best, but above all have fun....nothing in life is perfect.

I never tried doing one with out a light pad since I purchased one along with my first diamond painting but I could never imagine working with out one. Its by far the most useful tool in diamond painting in my opinion plus its super useful for other projects. I can assure you a light pad is the last thing you should be hesitant on buying. They're cheap and normally if you buy one from Amazon you can get a decent one with a ton of useful accessories for diamond painting for under $20.

I've been DPing for about a year and am addicted to it & have to say this video has been great for me to watch because I know exactly what you mean about not trying to work in perfect squares. I left a DP half finished because it made the lines wonky & just ruined it. It was so reaffirming to hear what you said about sometimes drill bits being too small due to manufacturing defect. I hate when drills are like this because the gapping really sucks ha. It's so annoying. I needed to hear you say that. Thanks. I don't shy away from square because I prefer the look but it is a lot harder.

I happened upon your channel as I started my first diamond painting, and caught a comment about using a light board. It wasn’t necessary for that first one (which was good, because I was away from home) but boy it was super helpful for the second painting which was blacks and purples, reds and greens. Funny note...the third painting I did was succulents with a white background, and the light board seemed so bright that I had to place a dark piece of card stock over places I wasn’t working because it was hurting my eyes. I accidentally learned on my next piece that my light board is dimmable 😆. Felt like a fool, but look forward to my next light colored work to take advantage of the lowest light setting.

Hello. Can you tell me what the name is of the kit you are working on in this video? Your square still placement is amazing and with your video I am working up the nerve to start my first Square drill. I have been diamond painting for a while now but only on rounds. Thanks so much for your great tips and tricks.

I'm working on a square drill painting and it seems hard to put the drills on straight. I will try these tips and i do have a light pad that may help. This is my first square painting and it makes me frustrated. I will have to look at your video as i work on the painting. I will let you know how it works. Thanks for the tips, i thought it was me, but it may be the drills. They are a lot smaller than the round drills.

Yes, let me know! Some square drills are more uniform than others, and uneven squares can really make it difficult. With good square drills, placement takes a little practice, but I think it's totally worth it for the result they give! :)

Just started and I’m hooked, of course! This is a great video. I am on my second DP with rounds and ordered a square that will be here soon, I hope. Would you recommend that I just do the checkerboard for the entire DP since it will be my first attempt?
@tinyworldsofwonder4 жыл бұрын
Sharon Pernes Hi, Sharon! Welcome to the addiction! I definitely recommend checkerboarding all your light colors. If your drills are nice and square and really uniform, your dark colors would be a great place to practice some multi placing. If they’re not quite uniform, checkerboarding would be a great idea for all your colors. I hope that helps! Good luck with everything!

Thanks for the tip in the square drills. I’m new to this hobby and it seems like I’m drawn to the square drills. I’ve done three round pictures which were easy but I have quite a few square. I buy from diamond art club the drills look more consistent. Again thank you.

Thank you, you have confirmed what I thought was just me: nudging the drills into place doesn't work. Too late for what I have already done and your idea of checkerboarding -- really, with any color -- enables me to go in with my tweezers and lift the drill. I have been dping for almost a year and I kept thinking that my squares would straighten with more experience, but that wasn't happening. Thanks.

What are those adorable little weights you are using to keep the cover paper down?

Cover minders
@tinyworldsofwonder2 жыл бұрын
Naturegirl is correct. They're called cover minders, and they come with two magnets attached to the back. One magnet goes behind the canvas and keeps the paper from getting in your way. There are all kinds of fun ones on Etsy. :)

Go to Joanns or Michaels and pick up a small diamond dots to work with while you wait. It will give you something to do and you will learn a little in the meantime.

Thanks for the tips, gonna try them all out 😊 I’ve just started a portrait canvas if my mum n dad’s wedding photo and I have to say it has caused me a Ton of stress 😤 for the first 3-4 days .. I dropped a tray of drills on the canvas and had to pick them off individually and whilst doing this with the tweezers they were pinging off in all directions ( I would later find them with my feet 😖) I absolutely Hated doing it with a passion and couldn’t understand anyone could do this for fun lol must be out of their minds 🤪 It’s a Massive size canvas to do as a first project and feel like I’m never gonna finish it (size of the canvas it 50x60 cm) Anyways I am getting better at it and it is less stressful but I am still looking for shortcuts all the time lol 😂 I’ve just brought a mesh ruler (Hope that wasn’t a mistake 🙄) Thanks again for yr tips 👍🏽

I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t get a multi placer with my diamond paintings. I don’t know if it’s rare to get them when you buy one but I think that I can make it without one right?😅 It’s just a 30x40 so I think I’ll be able to make it. But I’ve heard that the square ones are more difficult than the round ones and I didn’t get the information which type of diamonds it was. So now I have the square ones and I just have to try I guess!😊
@tinyworldsofwonder4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Kicki! You've totally got this! I think with square canvases it's actually easier to use a single placer. Some brands seem to come with them and some without, and I'm not sure there's a rhyme or reason to whether they include one or not. You may be able to snag some extra placers on Ali Express if you decide you need one. :) Best of luck with your project!

Hi. Love your tips. I have my first square drill. I started it then I put it up because I just couldn’t see to do it. I ordered a light pad but I found that when I pulled back the paper the glue pulled off from the canvas and it now on the paper. Should I try ironing it to get it to go back on the canvas or do you have a suggestion.
@tinyworldsofwonder2 жыл бұрын
Oh no, Carol! You could try burnishing it down really well with a credit card or something similar. If that doesn't work, I would definitely contact the seller because that sounds like a canvas defect to me. I'm sorry to hear that! :(

I have a current square drilled DAC I'm working on but am not happy because the drills will not stay straight. I put them on the canvas but then the drills shift causing movement. It appears the canvas may be too slick and the drills don't want to appear to stay in the proper place. Suggestions?
@tinyworldsofwonder2 жыл бұрын
I experienced the same thing with my first DAC. The texture of their poured glue was so rubbery that I had to physically lift the drill off on one side to reposition or it would go right back to where it started. I also found their squares to be a bit too small. 😥

Hi, Linda! I've lost track of the seller for this one sadly, but I would suggest a search for hand turned diamond painting pen on Etsy. There are so many fantastic sellers making these! I love Pens by Cheryl, Jim's Handmade Pens, Butterfly Effect Wares, and MonarchDesignsYEG over there. So many amazing color and design choices, and I'm positive you could locate something similar! :)

Thank you for the tips. They were very helpful. I have done quite a few diamond paintings but this one I'm doing now is my first square one so my question is, what is the best way to lay them if you have large areas that are all a dark color such as black?
@tinyworldsofwonder4 жыл бұрын
Shannon Larson Hi, Shannon! My pleasure! I love to multiplace my dark colors - the more at once the better! 😀
@shannonlarson18564 жыл бұрын
@@tinyworldsofwonder Thanks for the reply. That is exactly how I do it with the round ones but I am having issues getting them to turn over and line up in the tray. Guess I'll just keep trying. Thanks again!
@tinyworldsofwonder4 жыл бұрын
@@shannonlarson1856 Gotcha! I see what you're saying. If the square drills are slightly irregular or have some trash, lining them up can be really challenging. I have a hard time in that case as well. My only real advice is to keep shaking until you get something resembling rows, and then remove any irregular drills. They sometimes take forever to line up! Wishing you the best of luck with the canvas! :)

Tiny Worlds of Wonder agreed! One I started on a DAC one I could see the difference. 👍🏾 the two I’ve complained were non -DAC.
