I'm originally from the US, but my husband and I live in Japan. I've been back home once to visit, and trust me, those 16-22 hour flights are ROUGH. The best way I've overcome jet lag is to just...give myself time to recover from it. I listened to my body, slept when I was tired, and stayed up and as active as possible when I wasn't tired. I tried to take advantage of when I was getting up at insane hours of the morning by doing housework or going for a walk. After about a week, I'd slowly go back to a normal schedule. A lot of these methods do work, but sometimes you just have to give yourself enough time to adjust. For every hour of time zone difference, that's one day you'll need to TOTALLY recover from jet lag. Japan is a 13-14-hour time difference from the US, so count on needing at LEAST 1.5-2 weeks to recover naturally. Great video, guys!

When I travel from different time zones, I use a sleepmask on the flight and sleep according to where I'm landing. If I land in the morning I sleep on the 10 hour long flight to where I'm going. If I land in the evening, I keep myself up with movies and book to make sure that when I land I will be tired enough to go to sleep according to the new time zone😀

Yep try to do that too. Great for catching up on all those movies I've been missing out on. Also I'm trying out adjusting my in-flight meal schedule according to the destination, though it does make me that one passenger who refuses to eat with everyone else, and the fact that the galley's food warmer only keeps the food for 2 hours means that this method can only work so well.

You should also line up your sleep schedule so you never sleep at 6-7 pm. If you're exhausted after your flight, to make sure you get a good night's sleep and adjust to the time zone quickly go to bed at or after 7 pm. If you're taking a nap, make sure to wake up before 6 pm or you'll be way too well-rested for your regular sleep schedule and it'll take longer to adjust to the time zone.

I never have jet lag. My trick is to NEVER nap. It sounds brutal, but it works. My husband used to suffer from jet lag before we met, but since I drag him around as soon as we arrive and don't let him rest at all, he's usually in great shape from day 2. You can go to bed early though if you're really exhausted, but try and stay up to at least 8pm ;)

I will usually sleep the whole of my travel time (I'm usually flying to Europe and arrive in the morning). Alternately, I make sure I don't go to bed until it's night time wherever I've landed. On the way back I make sure to stay awake so when I arrive back mid-afternoon I only have to stay awake a few hours before blessed sleep.

Hey hey! I'm a flight attendant and (I loooovvveee your channel!) an expert at jet-lag (not the science of it, just the 'feeling' of it!). Jet lag tips? I always say don't stress too much about it. Your body will tell you when it needs rest so just follow it (but yes, time your naps because sleeping for 12 hours straight can feel ridiculous sometimes-like you wasted a whole day of your life or something like that!) Then just enjoy things as they are; focus on your current surroundings and environment, and don't think too much about the time difference. If it's night time and you should be getting some sleep, try to keep the same habits you do before going to sleep at home, like reading a book, etc. you could also bring your favorite blanket or whatever it is that makes you feel totally comfortable and at home. Sounds silly but it works! P.S: Have I mentioned how much I loooovveee your channel? Peace! ;)

I've only traveled east about 9 hours. I can't really sleep on a plane so I found if I just stay up by walking around outside, while I get miserably tired one day, it is a lot easier to suffer one day than the few days it takes if I nap. Traveling to Vietnam this winter, a full 12 hour shift, and I'm not looking forward to the jet lag.
@ivanvinogradov1375

I travel a lot, so here is a tip that helps me: If you are abroad and you are very tired and want to sleep, but it is, lets say, only 5 pm in that country, then FORCE yourself to stay active and go to bed only when you normally do (10pm-12pm). Then you will get a nice sleep and have enough energy for the rest of the day, instead of waking up at 3 in the morning and going to bed at 5 pm :)

For me it is best to use my tendency to have longer than 24 hours biorhythm. So i actually don't get any major jetlag when travelling west, i just get tired at normal time, not at 1 AM as at home. And when going back east, i prolong my day, go to sleep early in the evening local time and then wake up with normal people, not my usual "anything before 10 AM is too soon". Works for travelling between central europe and california.
