Something plenty of people never think of. I've seen plenty of art stations that look like a murder scene. Great tips!

Thanks for those great tips. I’m new to pastels but haven’t tried a no background yet so when I do, will now be prepared. Btw you don’t look old enough to remember Woolworth’s! Funny because I very often make a slip and call Walmart by the name…. Lol

The sticky book cover is a great idea. I have never used white Pastelmat because I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it white. I think I'll try it now.

It was a game changer when I thought of it! I had loads of it left from covering the kids school books when they were little - knew there would be a use for it at some point!

Interesting and useful video, thank you. I met her channel because I was looking for a way to cover with pastels a small area of dark gray pastelmat that does not receive the pastel, I think the roughness is missing. When the work was finished, while I was putting the pink background, of a single and homogeneous color, I realized that the paper does not take. Please, has this ever happened to her and she would have some advice for me to remedy. I also wrote to Clairefontaine for help but they didn't reply. Thank you again.

It’s difficult to say, that’s not something I’ve come across, it may be a fault in the paper? Have you tried a small amount of paint colour matched to the background colour? PastelMat does take paint quite well. You could then blend some of the background pastel over the painted bit (once it’s dry). I hope that helps.

@@SuMelvilleArt Thank you, you are very kind, I think it is a defect of the Pastel Mat. I will try as you suggest, I Will try with some gouache as a background and then I will apply the pastel. I am new to this technique, I have discovered you and will follow you.🙏

You can even use acrylic paint to either clean or to paint the whole background 🙂
