Thank you so much. Your video was very informative. I am currenlty applying for the doctor of physical therapy program in texas and was bummed to find out that many of the colleges I want to apply for do not offer college aid for DACA recipients. It is very discouraging but your ending statement made me feel better about the whole process. Thank you.

Great video. I have a question for you. Hopefully you see this message About me: I'm a DACA recipient and have been blessed with in-state tuition and private scholarships to fund my studies. I try to give back to the immigrant community as much as I can. Question: I live in Utah. Under law HB 144, you are eligible for in-state tuition if you attended high school for 3 years and graduate. However, I know several kids who have recently come from their native countries (6 months to 2 years ago) that have completed their high school studies in their countries and hope by some miracle that they can either pay in-state tuition and/or get financial help? What would your recommendation be? They certainly don't apply for in-state tuition in Utah. What do you know about schools that offer full-online programs such as SNHU or WGU? Can they help? Thank you

Hi I’m a single mother with DACA trying to go back to college I’m from Florida, and I’m having trouble finding a student loan because most of them required a co-signer and most scholarships for undocumented students that I’ve came across are for high school students. 😭

I am in NC and got accepted to an early college high school. Would it be easier for me to go out of state that has state aid and supports undocumented people out with college or pay double-triple of tuition for out of state? Also, since I'm already getting my associate's in business management, can those credits be transferred to out of state college?
@fafsahelp46613 жыл бұрын
It would be easier for you to go to a state that offers more support for undocumented students. However, that does not mean that private institutions or national scholarships could not be of assistance to you if you decide to stay in NC (I have included some links to some scholarships in the description of this video- if you haven't yet, please check them out). Additionally, keep in mind that most states that offer undocumented students in-state tuition, may require that students meet certain requirements such as high school completion in that state and that you have been a residents of that state for a minimum of 1-3 years. As far as the transferability of your current credits to other out of state colleges, unfortunately, I cannot answer that because that requires that someone from those out of state colleges analyze your transcripts. Please let me know if other questions come up.

Can TPS holders apply for FAFSA or any other program???
@fafsahelp46612 жыл бұрын
TPS holders are not eligible for federal aid via the FAFSA. Apply for scholarships and if your state offers educational grants see if your immigration status is eligible.

And can undocumented students attend any public university in the us?
@fafsahelp46613 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no, there are states (such as Alabama and South Carolina that ban enrollment for undocumented students). Also, some schools in some states that do not have equity tuition laws, will charge undocumented students double or triple the in-state tuition amount. . Please see this map for a visual of the states that offer in-state tuition and state aid for eligible undocumented students: . www.nilc.org/issues/education/eduaccesstoolkit/eduaccesstoolkit2/

Does this apply to someone doesn’t have DACA but simply overstayed their visa as an adult? Like 27yrs old.
@fafsahelp46613 жыл бұрын
Yes, state and scholarship rules can vary on this but all of these resources either require DACA or don’t exclude because of immigration status.

Does every state offer a affidavit for instate tuition?
@fafsahelp46613 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no :/ please see below in the description for a list of states that offer instate tuition for eligible undocumented students.
@davidrobles11733 жыл бұрын
@@fafsahelp4661 but can you be considered a instate tuition at any state even if they automatically consider you a out of state student?
@fafsahelp46613 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can be considered for in-state tuition in any state even if you are an out of state student (for example some schools will give discounted tuition rates or in-state tuition rates to Veterans and their dependents).

I live in MS. Is there anyway to transfer over to one of these states that have state aid and be eligible? what would you recommend or advise for someone who lives in one of these states? Thank you
@fafsahelp46613 жыл бұрын
Mississippi is one of those tough states. Also, most it not all states that offer state aid to eligible undocumented students require that those students have completed high school or GED requirement in that state. If you are still in high school, that may be a strategy to consider, moving to a more progressive state. Keep in mind thought that there may be other requirements to meet to be eligible for state aid and there may be income thresholds you and or your parents cannot exceed to be eligible. If you plan to stay in MS, I recommend that you look at the in-state tuition policies for undocumented students for individual colleges and universities, there may be some schools that don’t charge out of state or international student rate tuition for undocumented students. Then, look for any in-house grants or scholarships that they may offer directly from the school that don’t exclude because of immigration status. Also, in the description of this video, I included some scholarships to apply for that either require DACA or don’t exclude because of immigration status. I also included a documented that tells u the states that offer in-state tuition and state Grant for eligible undocumented student and their respective state laws. In that documents you can see the high school completion requirement and if there is a minimum number of years u have to live in that state before and/or after completing high school or GED there. Most importantly, don’t give up. I was in your shoes 17 years ago and I cannot believe how much progress we have made since. There are way more options today for undocumented students than ever before but I do recognize we still have a long way to go. Please apply for as many scholarships as possible and keep tracking your state’s progress on these related policies on the news. There are people in MS trying to enact more equitable laws for undocumented students to have more access to higher education.

This is BS. My child took out Student Loans because the parents are worth something. How can they allow a paperless migrant free educstion when they dont give it to all legal and legit students.
@bluecolumbine Жыл бұрын
Yea, thank you! It was so disheartening seeing illegal migrants getting a free ride and I couldn’t afford to finish school… my parents made too much for me to get financial assistance but they didn’t help and wanted me to “figure it out” thought they were showing me “tough love” but really they had forsaken me.
