You feel for the mother who had to leave due to domestic abuse. Again, however, how is this the problem of the United States or any State in the United States of America. There are actually some countries in the world where domestic abuse is far worse and sometimes beyond anything you can comprehend. She lived in also a major city in mexico. Are you telling me she couldn't have received help from the many of women agencies and women with men that I know could have helped her? Instead she ran and crossed the border illegally taking untold risks with her children. Does this make any sense? The mother didn't come here for economic reasons, yet she came here and took a job that another poor immigrant or american desperate for work would have done. How does this help our country exactly.

Yes! The "illegals" have more integrity and motivation and as Jaime Escalante (hope I spelled it right) from Garfield high school shown in the movie "Stand and Deliver" said, "ganas(desire)" to be a citizen that makes a difference. Throughout history, Spanish speaking peoples worked more in the farms than white people and were still wrongfully blamed for the great depression. Racism for old white adults always is the first instinct to justify themselves And not only is it obviously racist, but it is also stupid, arrogant, ignorant, and wrongfully brazen. Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta helped Spanish speaking peoples have better lives but work is still needed to be done to provide sanctuary! Speak with me on this!

I came here when I was 12 and now I go to the University of Miami graduating with a bachelor's in political science and broadcast journalism. I was undocumented living with 3 other siblings and a single mother. I'm not a criminal, I'm a good student. I'm low-income, black and a woman. She's low-income, Mexican, a woman, and undocumented. I see a lot of her in me, and vice versa, in the speech she gave. I'm so proud of her for doing what she did because I had to live in the shadows until I got my citizenship which took YEARS. And I never had the courage to even consider to do what she just did. And she's doing so much better than any of us could even imagine. Yale?!?!? I'm shooting for Howard or TSU for graduate school maybe😅. She's so amazing. There are times where I feel I'm not good enough considering my race, gender, background, but this woman right here has trumped all of those negative thoughts. I may not be Yale good, but coming from what I come from, and seeing how great she's doing, I believe in myself a bit harder now. And to all the racists in the comments, you're just mad immigrants like herself took the opportunity to do something great with their residency in America. Learn a thing or two from brown people and stop trying to control us because of prejudice and unfounded hate. This speech was beautiful.

For those calling her a criminal .... she came to the United States as a CHILD. I doubt any one in her position would have chosen to put less effort in her studies simply because it was “unfair” to everyone else. I don’t know about you, but I would have done everything possible to make my parents’ efforts worth something. Although immigrating illegally is not something that I support, anyone having extreme sentiments towards these people must at least acknowledge that the past of this country in relation to Mexico is not something to be proud of. Just because you happen you to be an American, it does not mean that you deserve the right to “be protected” form the rest. If anything, Mexicans should be quite angry for being called “illegal” in a place were they belonged, a place were they believed was their home.

Sadly more illegal immigrants in the US embody what it means to be an American than many of these people in the comments hating on illegals. Personally, I don't support illegal immigration, but realize even the government does. The government knows the location of many undocumented immigrants, but guess what, many of these undocumented immigrants actually pay taxes and as long as they pay taxes and don't commit a crime the government leaves them alone. These people are better than buisness and rich individuals that avoid taxes, they are better than a lot of "Americans" who just sit at home and collect money from the government, and then complains the government needs to give more.

I worked at a trump hotel and a golf resort. Ive met him, his wife and daughters. He’s such a nice man. At the end of the day we are all go getters: he played his card and i dont blame him for it. He did great things, but i disagreed with the words he chooses especially when he knows how CNN is gonna twist everything. I wish CNN quit lying and highlighted our real reality: Not something made up to make him look bad, because they make us look like the poor miserable people lower class of the society. We are happy. We have so much love, health, so much family and so much friendship to offer. I fought for my legal status and despite not being from Mexico, I will continue to use my legal status and my media connections to speak up and be heard. We need Mexicans in America. The honest hard working people belong here. I want people to make the difference between criminals, human traffickers - trash disgusting people - and the hard working vatos who come to this country to contribute to society! They don’t steal your taxes hey they dont have a SSN! And HELL no you think Tia is gonna be okay with putting her name and address on a government paper?! Hell no! George is gonna get more than one slap of chancla

@@josianelessard I mean...both Fox and CNN be twisting words...although, I personally feel like CNN doesn't always twist his words. Such as the whole disinfectant thing... no big media output actually said Trump recommended this, they all were along the line of how he jousted it on national television. And a lot of Trump supporters were quick to defend what he saying with majority using the excuse of Trump meant something else....but then literally 12 hours later, he says he actually was serious about using disinfectant but it was a "joke". Haven't seen any Trump supporter really defend against this. Plus Trump unreliability with any stance he choose...he only cares about "ratings". If what he says makes him look bad, he'll change his statement.

Josiane Lessard I really appreciate your thought, it is very true that the media can distort reality, and one doesn’t really know a person until they get to know them. However, I don’t really see Trump himself as the true issue. Sure, he is the president, and has a big influence on people’s views and opinions, but like I said before, it’s what the media communicates that alters opinions. There are certain people who inhabit this country that have a distorted opinion on issues like this one a fail to acknowledge all sides of the picture. Trumps presidency is temporary, his actions are temporary, so really, it’s more important to think about how the country itself perceives the countries direction and treatment of other people. The law will never be perfect, so as long as we bring awerness, and delve deep into how things are truly handled (not what they are portrayed to be), then there will be a much more productive, educated, and also compassionate environment.

No one is making that contention, and no one is against them simply because of their race. However, they have entered this Country illegally, and as such, they are not entitled to remain here, nor to take advantage of our social welfare programs. Why not, you ask? Because, for one thing, it deprives those who ARE legitimately entitled to receive the benefits from those programs, and that they ARE entitled to receive, and the funds that were granted specifically to be given to those Americans who are citizens of the US, and not to usurpers and Interlopers.

God bless this young girl! I cannot believe most of the people here in these comments. It's not her fault she's illegal. You think undocumented people don't try to get their papers? They do! But it's so hard and expensive and they just get deported back to where they came from! Why can't people just be happy for her!? For all that she has accomplished! Instead of saying "deport her." I was born here in the United States and both my parents are from Mexico and had me and my siblings here. You don't think my parents haven't tried to get their papers? We've talked to lawyers but we don't even have the money for it. My dad is such a hard worker and does none of the horrible things Trump says Mexican people do. I have to wait until I'm 21 to help my parents. I feel for this girl so hard. God bless you young girl! I hope you never stop chasing your dreams and that you can become a citizen one day! One thing in life is that you should never assume. If you don't have the data to prove your claim, then you best not claim anything. By the way, statistics show that it is much easier to get a job while you are young. No one wants to hire them because they can do less than younger people. That's pretty basic understanding. You must live in a very small town, and if you don't, then stop feeling sorry for yourself and get a job. Someone will hire you, unless you have something bad on your record, and even then....there are still felon-friendly companies.

She's an illegal immigrant who is a valedictorian. She proved that it's not just a quota that brought her success, but if she didn't make valedictorian, there would be no way for her to know if she had merit or if it was just partiality. People are pointing to this marginal instance and acting like it represents the whole bell curve. Women in management, minorities in high positions, etc, there will always be a voice telling you that you didn't get the position for merit, but because the color of your skin. Irony.

I was touched by her speech. She broke barriers and made something of herself as a valedictorian; regardless of her undocumented status. I am all for immigration and that's what America is all about. Americans tend to forget that THEY ARE ALL DESCENDANTS OF AN IMMIGRANT. If they take the time to reflect and explore their ancestry, they may discover hidden truths about their pasts. Immigrants came to this land, generations ago, in search of a better life. After hearing her story, that was precisely the reason why her family came here. Ignorant haters will continue to hate because they are insecure that an immigrant has done something better than they have.

So the fact that you think you can choose which immigrants are worth staying and which immigrants need to be deported is absurd. she is highly educated, seeing that she got a full ride to YALE. do you think suddenly that being an immigrant makes you somehow have a smooth path?! you are so wrong. it makes her life much harder which is why her journey is so inspiring. the fact that you can only focus on one little flaw that she DIDNT EVEN CHOOSE is absolutely absurd.

Grow up, America is for everyone and if you don’t like that, move to an island and start your own country 😂 no one’s taking away your child’s place in college, your child just doesn’t meet those standards to go to an ivy league and accept that. America isn’t just for white people remember y’all weren’t from here to start with. Stop being so stingy with a country that you don’t even come from either, no one is hurting you by doing so. Who’s making sure your food gets picked from fields, illegal immigrants who are underpaid. Thank them, don’t kick them out or be hateful towards them. Robert Brown illegals pay taxes ...they never get a tax return though..we are given a tax number not a social but tax number...to give 20 percent of what we made that year no matter how small to the state..there is also a lot of illegals working with lazy citizens papers...they only let them work half time though so they can keep collecting welfare and food stamps...n then they either file taxes or they don’t...a lot Dnt because then it affects there food stamps status....u should sorround ur self with the people u are trying to judge before you judge them

Jan Rosas because if she tries to bad things will happen. The USA had a lot of trouble with the mob until recently. Mexico has issues with drug cartels. If people stay there they won’t succeed in life. They will have a miserable existence unless they are part of the small fraction of people that have money.

Yeah, we heard she has been waiting 7 years, being this was 4 years ago maybe she was able to gain citizenship. I hope she succeeds. And kudos to her family for doing it the right way. Our system may be broken I’m sure it requires an effort to research and background checks and maybe there is a backlog of applications. But you can’t just open the doors to all without a process.
