6 UNEXPECTED Costs of Living in Boise Idaho!

Single mom and left Idaho 7 1/2 years ago to move to what I was told is a very expensive tourist area in Florida. Living in Florida has been so much more affordable. My income for the same work has been higher, and expenses, especially utilities and food, are so much less. My family has a house here for what we paid for a cheap apartment there. We also have so much less stress with a slower lifestyle.

We left Central California for WY. We found WY utilities were much cheaper, gas is a buck-fifty less, and food is similar but less selection and quality. Human services, lawn care, contractors, plumbers, etc. cost more in WY. Comparing teaching salary schedules, WY pays HALF what CA pays, yet the housing prices are the same! I think the same pattern exists in ID.

@@LivingInIdahoHomes I compare cities side by side. Murfreesboro, TENNESSEE and Coeur d Alene. Higher cost of living in Idaho. SUPER CONSERVATIVE in Tennessee. I lived in Rathdrum, Idaho for 5 weeks in 2021. God led me here, I don’t know if permanent or I will move again. Thinking of Idaho because of seasons. I’m not into Tornado warnings here🙄🙄🙄. Did she just call meridian a suburb of Boise ?? No Meridian is Meridian … until a few years ago they were completely separate towns till they grew together … but none the less completely separate city’s

Hate to correct you, but…Meridian is considered a suburb of Boise due to its close proximity and its location within the Boise metropolitan area. It is situated just west of Boise and is part of the greater Boise area, sharing resources, infrastructure, and economic ties with the city. 😘😉😜 So, yes, Meridian is a city, but an area can be its own city while still being considered a suburb of a larger city. This often occurs when a city develops independently but remains closely connected to and influenced by a nearby larger city. The area may have its own local government, services, and identity as a city, but it maintains a relationship with the larger city, possibly sharing resources, infrastructure, and economic ties. This is why we make the big bucks 💸

After researching prior to our big move, comparing the California Central Valley (not San Jose) cost of living, Idaho is a bit less expensive. However, there was a surprising lack of contrast, and taken alone, not worth the move. Of course, crime, drug addicts, and politics are demonstratively better in ID and easily tilt the balance.
