My first nuzlocke two of my pokemon got killed by a clefable with only metronome (in sword). Later on the route, my entire team got swept by a sudowoodo with rock slide. I'm pissed about this because the two pokemon that clefable killed were a Gyarados and a bellossom. *the only two pokemon that I had that could have taken out the damn fake tree*

One thing to add to the risk minimization: Defensive pokemons are more likely to survive bad luck. If your alakazam misses his focus blast, he's basically dead. Your Wailord on the other hand will most likely survive whatever your opponent does when you miss hydro pump Edit: Several people pointed out that wailord isn't that strong. To which I agree, but that's kind off the point: Even a mediocre pokemon is often better in a nuzlocke than a glass canon. Of course if you're the best nuzlocker in the world, you'll be able to keep your alakazam alive, but otherwise you might consider to use it only very carefully, if at all
@wheatleythebrick22762 жыл бұрын
tho the wailord wont be one shotting things left and right either, so you gotta strike a balance between offensive pokemon for sweeping and defensive ones for pivoting and checking threats
@RonanLyleMusic2 жыл бұрын
Wailord isnt even that tanky though due to defense stats, while also not having high attack or speed
@ulrichbrodowsky50162 жыл бұрын
@@RonanLyleMusic Sure, wailord isn't that strong. Still I'd probably prefere it over a alakazam, simply because defensive pokemon generally outperform glass canons in nuzlockes. And you can get through it very well with only walls, you don't need to reduce them to pivots. And you'll find it hard to get offensive pokemons into the fight

If I may add my own opinion: I think that when you first start doing nuzlockes it is a good idea to play with Gyms as checkpoints. That way if you lose a pokemon to RNG (or anything at all with self-destruct) then you get to weigh: do I reset from allll the way back when I fought gym 3? Or do I soldier on with a dead party member. I find that having that rule made it easier for me to accept deaths. I hope this helps any of you future nuzlockers out there!
@flayncel2 жыл бұрын
yes, so much yes. this is exactly what happens when I play a fire emblem game, I usually reset and try to do well for as long as I can, but as the chapters start getting harder and longer it makes you accept a few deaths, sometimes not even because you would lose a lot of time, but because you got lucky on other shit on that level previously and the reward outweighs the loss of a unit

A few more tips: *Grind all the pokemon on your team. Don't just have 1 strong pokemon on point. That's asking for trouble. *Take it slow at times. Playing loose and fast leads to avoidable mistakes. *Grind efficiently. It's better to grind xp on pokemon that you OHKO than on something that has a chance to crit kill a teammate. It might take a little longer, but better to be safe than sorry.

Yoo, this was a really good video! I'm usually a bit wary of these kinds of videos, because its not too uncommon for the people making them to go "this is the ONLY way and if you DON'T do it like this you're doing it WRONG", but I genuinly appreciated the message of "hey, keep it fun for yourself", followed by some helpful tips. I actually feel a lot better about wanting to try a modified hardcore nuzlocke right now, without feeling bad about adding some small things to keep it fun for myself, so thank you! I have only recently started doing nuzlockes and I was feeling kind of bad because playing with hardcore rules was still too challenging for me. So thank you for that number 1, it made me feel a lot better and I think it was a great reminder. Pivoting is something I have very little experience in, so a video about that would be very appreciated. Also, I'm really looking forward to seeing your campaign for future President Carbink!
@jasonreed75222 жыл бұрын
I think a big part of tip 1 is to not make ot worse by using game rules you don't normally use. I always play shift and won't be forced to play set, its just not fun and i believe several instances in the anime show Ash switching at the same time as his opponent meaning they are technically using "shift". But yeah the point of challenge runs is you are bored with the base game and are looking to get some more fun out of it by adding a few rules.

Had just finished my first ever platinum nuzlocke, it did take 5 tries to do so, but the process did use pokemon I never thought I would have used (namely crobat,rotom,floatzel,lucario,onix,luxio) which made it a much more special experience to me
@jasonreed75222 жыл бұрын
I think that is the special part of nuzlocks, the first encounter rule forces you to have unlikely teams and gives a reason to use suboptimal pokemon. Basically in a normal run you would get Entei or Raiku and immediately its better than whoever was you fire or electric type and so electabuzz is off the team. In pearl i found a shiny zubat in the oreburg mine (before the first gym) and learned it was a surprisingly good pokemon. It was also my first ever shiny.

Thank you so much for the first tip. I just started my Emerald Nuzlocke and I had lost Gloom to a crit. Since Vileplume is my favourite Pokemon, I really didn't wanna lose him. Same thing happened to Aron earlier, but I eventually boxed him because he died twice. I also lost the run today, because of the Gloom crit, I was unable to beat Wattsons team because 2/4 of my team was weak to electric. It made me feel cheap when I beat him the second try, because I failed the nuzlocke, but your tip made me feel so much better about myself
@dragofand2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you had that first tip as number 1. It's so important that people realize that nuzlockes at the heart of it is for fun. My first nuzlocke was in Emerald. And it was arbitrary but I made it a rule that I could bring back any of my Pokemon by doing different levels of the Pokemon contests. That way if a Pokemon died then they were gone (in the box is perfectly fine. Not everyone can do a youtube series or live stream to remember their nuzlockes by after all) but if I really cared for the Pokemon (or really needed them) I had an out. Did that for several of my first nuzlockes until I started getting better at the game and could take off the training wheels.

The fifth point is especially important. Minimizing risk is key in a Nuzlocke, so you should avoid bringing Pokemon to fights they might not do well in. Have someone else step up to the plate for a bit then shuffle the team around again. I just did my first Nuzlocke in White 2, and my Excadrill was the shining star of the show, being literally the last one standing by the end of the playthrough. I knew it'd be in danger if I brought it to Clay's Gym because of the Steel typing, so that was the one time it had to sit out of a Gym, brought in a Grimer that's been sitting around for use as a sacrifice if needed, and surely enough, it was. I didn't really get to use Grimer, but it was still monumental for that Gym's victory. Then I just brought Excadrill back onto the team without fear. And as the game went on I'd catch a few more strong Pokemon that could hold their own, rotating them in and out when needed, meaning I was effectively raising 8 to 10 Pokemon by the end before they all slowly kicked the bucket. But that also meant that if anyone did go down, I'd have another in place ready to go. Stuff like that.

Thanks for the video, I think it will help a lot of people out in minimizing frustrations when doing nuzlockes, especially the thing about focusing on having fun and allowing mulligans if you get super mad about losing a pokemon because of some idiotic fluke from the opponent like a critical explosion or destiny bond

What’s a mulligan?
@MarkofWisdom2 жыл бұрын
@@skeetermania3202 a redo/free pass. In this case giving a free pass to still use a pokemon even though it was KOed. One mulligan system I've seen used for nuzlockes is one revive allowed per gym completed, or equivalent milestones. So if your starter fainted before the first gym battle, you could use it again after you beat the first gym (assuming you're able to beat the first gym)

As a beginner with a lot of Pokémon experience but no nuzlocke experience, I would love more of this type of content

I decided to do a Pokemon white 2 hardcore nuzlocke as my first one cause I like to torture myself and the furthest I have gotten is the 7th badge but most of my runs end around the 4-5th badge so with this video I hope I can finally beat it

I also did white 2 as my first nuzlocke. First run wiped to some randome trainers when I used earthquake and killed my own samurott with a crit. Second wiped to a random wild psyduck because I was speeding up while grinding. Third attempt, I decided to stop being an idiot and won.

Thanks for the tips. I've played a couple nuzlocke before with some success. I'm going to take your advice and try a Grass type challenge on sword
