Another fun and informative video. Even a plank like me could attempt that! I did find, when I dabbled in 1/35 again, that it was all too easy to get bogged down in all the accessories, add ons and doodads. You could spend over £100 over the price of the kit on stuff that, to the average viewer, would never look like you spent that much on it. Lovely results on your decking though and I always admire folks that do put the hard yards in, especially when, like you, they make it look like it was all worth it.

The Warspite is certainly coming along. Love that decking, Harry. I checked out these decking sheets, but they are a bit pricy for me so, I'll stick to trying to do the best I can with a plastic decks on my own ships. Real wood is the best though as you are proving here. 🙂

Painting decks is fine if you have the eye hand coordination and don’t mind all that masking. I like the wood veneer because it is also a mask. Helps me get sharp edges on deck fittings and bulkheads that my wobbly hands could not paint

I just spent 20 mins listening and watching a guy named Harry talking about and playing with his deck. I mean don't get me wrong it was a nice deck. Sometimes I wish I had a deck like that. Maybe then I could be famous on the internet. You can make a lot of money showing your deck on the internet nowadays. I mean, here I am on the internet trying to learn how to make my deck look better. Anyways, in case no one has told you today, you do have a nice deck. I'll see myself out......

I bought some 3D print ships boats from Micromaster for my 1/600 hood and I'm glad I did they're so detailed. I'd like to have a printer but it looks complicated.
@HarryHoudiniModels4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tip… I will look them up and see what they have for my Warspite. The 3D printers are pretty simple. Push button and go. It is the software slicing and CAD that takes a bit to get your head around, especially if you haven't done any spacial geometry before.

Hi Harry, The planks weathering looks beautiful. Why don't you print your boats and turrets with resin? Good continuation👋🏻
@HarryHoudiniModels4 ай бұрын
Resin might give a better print but the fumes almost killed me last time.. too toxic!
@Yves951284 ай бұрын
@@HarryHoudiniModels You are probably allergic, I had two printers running constantly for weeks in my living room during the lock-down, without any discomfort other than the annoying humming noise.
@HarryHoudiniModels4 ай бұрын
The thing about Resin toxins is they slowly build up in your body… you might not have any immediate reaction but after a while there will be a tipping point where you body will react and always react from then on. The fumes were always doing you harm, even when you did not notice it. Resin is extremely toxic, carcinogenic, and lethal… just takes time to kill you. Don’t kid yourself it doesn’t effect you. Like spider poison, once you notice it, it is too late!

Watch “Teaching Tech” here on KZbin… he is an Aussie, but don’t hold that against him, but he is also very pragmatic and informative about 3D printing relevant to our part of the world. His series on using Onshape helped me get back into CAD very quickly and easily. There are many inexpensive 3D printers out there now, and most are well made and reliable. You can never go wrong with an Ender 3 from Creality, but spend a bit more and the Bambu Labs A series are very clever started printers. They are Filament, like mine, so suited more for practical prints. If you want to print figures or small detailed parts then there is a plethora of small cheap resin printers. Even that one I reviewed from Geeeeeeetech, did the job well and was sub $150 AUD at the time.

I’m doing 1/350 ships. Do you have to remove the molded deck planking before you apply a wooden deck?
@HarryHoudiniModels4 ай бұрын
You best remove any raised detail, as I do on my sailing ship builds where the decks have raised plank lines. I also chisel off the moulded on anchor chains on my warships. However fine lines cut into a deck don’t usually present a problem as the wood veneer easily covers it. Just remember to prime the plastic first. The veneer adheres better to a matt painted surface. See my videos on the Zvezda 1/350 Varyag where I also added a wood deck. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eau7mIeEo9h0hKM kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKjOqJ2fpdB7oKs
