Every year for my birthday (after the age of 50) I gave up one thing that does not make me happy. At first it was pantyhose, then dying my hair...and so on. The last thing I gave up was "guilt" - life is good.

Shouldn’t we be viewing products that the world wants us to buy on models our age? Do we really think we will look like a 15 year old when we are 55 if we use their products? A bit insulting and I don’t know any 15 year olds wanting to look younger.

I’m 71 and love where I’m at - full of gratitude to be here having survived cervical cancer in my 30s and living with bladder cancer since 2012! While 70 was not a harrowing specter, it was a pivotal milestone that brought a lot of introspection & self assessment. My one bit of ‘wisdom’ is: don’t be afraid to reach outside the box and NEVER do or not do something based solely on what someone else might think. Love & hugs to you, Nikol!! 🥰🙏👍🏼

Hi F. E. Parker, I too survived cervical cancer at 32. Mine was carcinoma, in situ. At 72, I don’t have any cancer anywhere now, but I do have Polycystic Kidney Disease and Congestive Heart Failure. I am so happy to still be enjoying life. My advice for life is always be truthful and find a way to love each thing that you have to do. I am on a mission to find a foundation that will work and not settle into my marionette lines. Nikol, in her videos, has suggested a couple that I am waiting on right now in the mail. Nikol, you are beautiful inside and out. God bless you.
@f.e.parker4855 Жыл бұрын
@@texassews535 - so glad to hear from you! Mine was in situ, as well. Wonderful that you celebrate the positives & joy in your life - cancer does that to you. The bladder cancer is sneaky - I have to stay on top of it and I’m blessed with an excellent urologist. Foundation is tricky. I love Nikol makeup, but wanted to work on foundation close to home so I could get samples. What’s worked for me is Tarte Sea hydraflex - it’s a serum foundation and very moist. BUT … I use Dior Backstage primer and press it into my skin especially around my mouth and Marionette lines. The most important thing I’ve learned from Nikol is hydration. After my usual skin care is applied, I finish with a layer of Laneige water bank creme, then primer (a very light coat). It works - my skin stays moist at least 14 hours. I will keep you in my thoughts and wish you many more years of happiness! Hugs, 🥰

At 69, I am happier than I’ve ever been. Not because my life has changed dramatically but because I choose happiness. I spent so much of my life worrying, caring what others thought, trying to please other people, trying to be thin, trying to look younger, that I missed so much “life”. I think about the next 30 years of my life as my youth. As long as my body will allow, I’ll keep growing and learning. My advice is to find things you’re really interested in and devote much of your day to them. I do things I never thought about like watercolours, junk journals, hand made gifts, new recipes, etc. You’ll never know how happy it can make you if you don’t “jump”.

People think it's other people treating them differently just because of the age reveal, but I assure you it's more often that you act differently over the shame of your age. My friends and I in our 20s were actually open-minded about being friends with much older folks - 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s... but you know what? These people griped about age concerns - anything from self-deprecating jokes about aging to telling us that we're just babies. This was the thing that turned us off and made us feel like we were worlds apart. We could've gotten along. Funny enough, they seemed to blame us for something *they* didn't seem aware of themselves, which was odd because you'd think the older you get, the wiser you get.

I had felt that way to about my ex and his wife. I had hid too every time I was around them for grandchildren being born and all those holiday get together. I finally got the nerve up to tell my ex husbands wife that she changed him. And she did. When I told her that I felt a power come over me that I was the better person than her or him. Whenever there is a get together now I make sure I look good and I dress to make me feel good. Since I do all that I go into a room with the attitude of look at me I’m beautiful and I’m free to do what I want to. All that matters is love yourself no matter what others think. I’m 65 and today I wanted to feel like I’m sixteen. So I put my hair in pigtails like I wore in the sixties and seventies. Look in that mirror and tell yourself you are beautiful and you are sexy and you are a good soul. Put that makeup on , get into something that make you feel great and go outside. There is a world out there that knows you are the best. ❤

I have started using products that I would have never purchased because a teenager is the model they use. I just figure, “oh that’s not for me” and move on. I would like to know how to take care of my skin & how to use makeup on a person who does not use Botox, fillers, expensive procedures, etc. We can look lovely even without procedures. Im all for enhancing what I’ve got but I don’t want to change my natural look. Bring on those older models! I cannot wait to see them.

I do not remember exact words but she basically said to walk or strut into a room full of confidence and BELIEVE you are the most beautiful and interesting person in the room. I took her advice! I have always done that. I am now old. I use no plastic surgery or Botox or expensive clothing AND I am now obese in my old age. I STILL command a room. I have fun and everyone around me has fun! I carry myself with confidence, wear what I want, say what I want. I do things that make me happy. Strut, carry yourself with confidence, laugh! Try it.

I’m an RN of 34 years about to enter into my second career as Licensed Massage Therapist. My best advice (more to myself) is self care. I have so many aches and pains from working and going to the gym for many years. My receipt included a request for feedback on the service I received. Boy did they get feedback. Since then the store has hired several older women to serve in cosmetics and I always go to them for assistance. While these women are definitely accomplished, most shared banal even dishonest platitudes re: their approach to beauty. In reality most of these women have TEAMS of people keeping them attractive, not to mention a range of plastic surgery as their best kept secret. Christy Brinkley is the WORST offender, for years allowing her female fans to make futile comparisons wondering why their face cream & walks on the beach don't make them look like her. In the meantime she has an annual budget for cosmetic surgery. Anyway, YT has amazingly rich content available. You should explore a bit more you might enjoy it! ✌

Perfect video, Nikol! Just what I needed to hear at this point in my 64 years. I think most women, throughout their lives, struggle with putting themselves first in a mindful, healthy way. You’re so inspirational as are all of these women you’ve included. You’re incredible! Thank you! ❤

I really enjoyed this video. I am recently retired and prior to retirement decided I wanted to challenge myself in doing things out of my comfort zone.I am working on achieving these goals and referring to retirement as magical. I now have the freedom to be anyone I want to be! The ladies you profiled are all inspirational for woman in their 60’s and beyond!

Thank you, Nikol, for daring to be so beautiful, natural, gorgeous grey haired and caring for everyone. I’m 77, but I really don’t think about my age. I think about looking good and feeling good! Not looking old and frumpy in my clothes. I’m grey now and like it. Sophisticated women are catching on to the natural grey. I take good care of my skin. My makeup has changed somewhat to bring some brightness to my face, but not making a fake face. Love learning from you!

And my quote for the ladies is just be true to our self! Everything will fall into place and take some time for yourself. No matter what it is, meditation, exercise, clean eating, skin care, makeup, etc. Thank you again! Till next video!

When you showed the quote from Christie Brinkley, it truly resonated with me. "Having an attitude of gratitude" has come to be very important to me. I have seen 66 Earth trips around our Sun. I have experienced tragedy in my life, and tragedy on the planet (Chernobyl). It is soooooooo tempting to become cynical and sad as our lives show us more and more tragic situations over time. I must push against this tide of negative situations, I must focus on all the GOOD things that I experience. Ms. Brinkley is absolutey correct!

Great advice from a cadre of celebrated women! I’m grateful to be 66, healthy, with lots of life ahead of me. Doesn’t mean I need permission to look my best. I say, every woman should be celebrated whether she opts for au natural or taking advantage of medical skincare options. Let’s just remember to support one another! I have no real favorites - but shout out to Jamie Lee for that pure joy in watching her friend succeed. ❤

Oh my gosh, Nikol. In my heart, each of your videos are worthy of an Emmy! As for my favorite quote, I chose all ten women. Each woman's quote added a nugget to my soul. These are the things I fall back on when my age insecurity pops up. With your beautiful words my 69 year old self can fully realize that I don't give a damn for being profiled in the two very large beauty stores. I thank you, again for giving of yourself so honestly.

Great video, such positive, timeless advice. My biggest inspiration was my mother who lived to be 98. She was amazing, one of those glass is half full kind of people. One lesson she taught me is to always keep moving. She loved to walk and go for hikes. She lived in an assisted living facility when she was in her 90's and I remember finding her outside when I visited her one day. Her eyesight and mobility had diminished at that point and I felt sad when I saw her walking around the parking lot with her walker. But when I spoke to her she was so happy to be outside, to be able to move and feel the sun on her face, even in a parking lot. That is the attitude I want to have. Another thing I've learned as I get older is not to be afraid to try new things. For example I never thought I was artistic but always wanted to learn how to draw. So in my 60's I thought why not, I'm not too old to learn. I don't even have to good at it, what's important is to enjoy it.

I am 62 and just relearned how to put on make-up and take care of my skin. I haven't taken care of myself for 18 years due to health problems. I had colon cancer in my 30's the year after my mom passed due to cancer and I have had various health problems since. I am a believer in Jesus and my relationship with him and a lot of hard work along with remaking myself over, I feel like I'm in a better place than I ever have been in my life.

Another outstanding essay on maturing with grace Nikol. I am surrounded by young women (and men) almost every day; they express more concerns about "self" than many adults realize. I learn from them but do not want to emulate their appearance. Skin lines and white hair are earned badges of survival; too many women are dying young from chasing dreams that mean little in the end.

Taking care off your body via exercise, taking care of your skin and hair, and working on being a more loving person. And becoming more wise! I will be 73 years old in March. I believe having a strong faith in God is so important. Stress and anxieties age your face. So I give all my cares and worries to the Lord. Live in the moment. If you're walking down "Memory Lane" and you recall a bad experience, just leave it there. Just remember the lesson that it taught you. We are all aging at our own pace. Remember.... We have alot of living to do. God bless you!

I love words and have always been keenly aware of their power for both promotion and demotion. Of all the intriguing quotes that have inspired me, my favorite is: "The purpose of life is a life of purpose." That so resonates with me and motivates me to go forth with purpose and do my best to step into the lives of people. Every direction you look there are people in need of practical, emotional and spiritual assistance. It's our job/our purpose to reach out to one another and provide help, comfort and care in whatever capacity we're able. We're each gifted with unique perspectives and unique abilities, so our efforts to give will all look different; but it should be paramount in the lives of us all.

I enjoyed all of the women's comments. Truly, with age comes wisdom. My gem of wisdom? I am a short woman (5'1"). Whenever someone makes a comment regarding being short, I usually say "I'm comfortable with my specific gravity level"! It works! Gives them something to think about! 🤔
