Bought this jacket after watching your video about it, used it for the first time two days ago hiking in heavy rain in Dartmoor for six hours and it worked perfectly, good wind breaker too. Snagged it straight away on a bush so it now has a one inch tear so ye you have to be careful. Thanks for the recommendation, great purchase.

For anyone wondering, the suit works perfectly. Better if you put them under your clothes so the pants don’t rip. I valet cars and sometimes in the rain for 10 hours, it works great, keeps me warm too

That’s a cool idea - never thought about putting it underneath something else!

That’s a terrible idea for a survival situation. Your under layers would be wet from sweat and your midlayers(now outer layer) will get saturated. So you’ll be wet and have no ability to insulate. Also putting normal clothes over will get soaked and having the rain layer covered with saturated normal clothes will eliminate any rain layer breathability.

I’ve got an Arcteryx Norvan SL for trail running, which is stupidly light, but also stupidly expensive, and from what I hear not very durable, so I decided to try something else for backpacking. I went in the totally opposite direction and bought the Frogg Togg, a bit heavier (but not a whole lot) doesn’t pack as well, but if I tear it, no big deal. Good review, I was quite worried when I got it, but after watching your videos, I will give it a go.

Hmmmm do I buy these instead of buying another expensive jacket, which always ends up being a massive let down for the price. I may do 👍 great vid mate

I’d never use these for anything but an energy dog walk thing. Wearing a pack.. hitting a branch.. sitting wrong, it’s gonna rip apart. They make some more durable ones for like $60 but at that point.. Patagonia has some pro level options for 100 more that have a for real lifetime warranty

I love my Frogg Toggs and took them on the PCT. I never split my pants, though, but I also didn't finish the trail. I remember mostly wearing them while I was doing my laundry!

Frogg Toggs fo Lyfe! Haha love my Toggs. I do exactly what you said and use it over my fleece as a windbreaker when needed. Really can’t get getter for the price 🤙

Haha yes mate. Totally love them for the price. Sven did a good job of sewing them back up too haha.

Wear the Frog Togo’s under an army surplus ACU (or BDU) shirt. These shirts are 50/50 nylon, cotton. They are very rugged and durable. They dry fairly quickly. Wearing the Frog Toggs under this shirt protects it, but you still stay dry.

I've been looking into rain gear lately. My £40 Berghaus jacket from Go Outdoors keeps me dry, but I swear till I'm moist so still get wet. People say that Paramo is awesome, but at the price of them they should be. I can't justify spending £££ on a single jacket. So I'm thinking Ponchos are the way forward. Replace jacket, rain skirt, tarp, sunshade, sit pad and pack cover with 1 poncho for under £20.

Got to be honest, even at the price, you’re not selling them to me. The true test of waterproofs is Munro bagging in horizontal rain. I have several sets of waterproofs which are no longer good enough for the mountains but good enough for round town so no need for Frog Toggs. However, if your wanted to get more miles out of those waterproofs or any others which are a bit battered, try a Montane windproof under them. I treat my windproof with Techwash and TX Direct. It will cope with anything if I have an allegedly waterproof garment over the top. I used to remove my windproof before putting on a waterproof. No longer. After a comment by Chris Townsend, I started putting waterproofs over the windproof and ended up drier than before. But am I getting more than 6000 miles out of a waterproof that costs 10 times more than the Frog Toggs? No. Good video. I’ve wondered about Frog Toggs for a long time. I need wonder no longer.

The Trail Hunter : Sorry. Poor choice of words on my part. Very weak rhetoric. I meant that the waterproofs look unsuitable for backpacking above the tree line.
@yesodkhabbal26433 жыл бұрын
I wonder if you meant 600 miles not 6000?
@thedaftestnameicouldthinko82333 жыл бұрын
@@yesodkhabbal2643 : No. I was saying a waterproof ten times as expensive was not lasting ten times as long. Clearly, with inadequate clarity. Sorry. My waterproofs aren't even getting close to ten times the durability. Also, a waterproof ten times as expensive fails to give ten times the quality. However, 2 Celsius and 30 mph of wind can kill and used to back in the 1960s, when I started backpacking. I need something reliable in those conditions. If Frog Toggs do that, great, but the hood design has me doubting them.

His Russ, thanks for this review! As best as I can tell the fabric is based on Tyvek (spun not woven) with a bonded water proof coating. Another review here from 'TwoFoolsWalking' kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZXNfYmEl9Z0iMk which suggests go with the Ultralight rather than Emergency version. Also good to know Frogg Toggs also sell a Rain Poncho - which covers you and your Backpack and likely best suited for warm summer months when you want maximum aeration under the rain protection layer! Lastly - yes this thin fabric not very hardy against snagging punctures and rips - but it is super repairable with Duck Tape or similar. Fog Toggs may not look pretty - but it is chosen by many as it is battle proven on very long distance thru hikes - and that kind of equipment reliability should tell you a lot! Keep up the good work Russ!

Its not for wilderness, the pants splitting is common w at cheap rain pants.. I prefer $1.5 disposable ones, buy a pack n always bring a spare n try to be delicate with it..

How did the waterproofing hold up under the shoulder strap (the outer layer)?

gaffa tape around the hood pull things as soon as you get them.. little disc with the hole in it.. can't do anything about the pin-holing (i usually just get it on the back so it's not a big problem).. weird you only got it on one shoulder.. waterbottle? dslr? spine/strap alignment?(arrrrgggh!) a cyclist mate got the berghaus 100 i had my eye on.. year later it was wrecked & my driducks are soldiering on.. who said lightweight is expensive :)

Frogg toggs suck. My jacket devlopled multiple holes and small tears from light use. I went to usethe pants and the moment I threw my leg over my bicycle to get on, the entire crotch area ripped like tissue paper. Pure junk
