Hey everyone!
Thank you for watching today’s video. Today, we’re heading out to explore a mine on the other side of Chilliwack Lake. This is definitely a beautiful area with lots of history. This mine is an old silver mine called The Silver Chief Mine and is located in the Chilliwack River Ecological Reserve which is a stone throw away from the U.S boarder. This mine was discovered in 1916 by Chief Sepass who named the mine, he also helped the miners with transporting them across the lake with their supplies. We hope you enjoy the video and if you do give it a big thumbs up! 👍
A sample of quartz vein taken in 1923 yielded 1.37 grams per tonne gold, 1508.58 grams per tonne silver and 1.8 per cent copper (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1923, page 262).
By 1930, a tunnel had been driven for about 6 metres on the west seam, then a crosscut was made to the east seam which was then drifted on for 10.7 metres. In 1926, it is reported that 1 tonne of ore was mined and 3577 grams of silver and 22 kilograms of copper recovered.
