Ref light in these places, there is a way that uses plastic bottles, if a hole is cut in the corrugated sheet that a bottle can be put through and the hole made waterproof, A litre bottle of water with a little bleach to stop it going green, half in, half out of the roof will be equivalent to a 60 watt bulb during daylight with the sun on it

I was watching one of your videos from a few years ago when you were living in a small townhouse by yourself. I know you live rent free, but nobody in their right mind would want to live in those conditions that aren’t born in the Philippines and were born into those living conditions. It was a good three part series. You should do the same with expats already living their and compare living conditions.

Chris, necessity forces acceptance of hard conditions, but I heard also a longing for better. Annie repeatedly said her place was too hot, and you all noted the health hazard of the stagnant pool. It would cost very little to raise Annie's roof, yet it would mean so much to her family. The stagnant pool has no flow, so it can be filled with concrete without disrupting any water flows in the area. Expats have been known to take on projects like that in the Philippines, because the locals will not do it, not so much because of the cost or lack of desire for betterment, but because the culture of acceptance holds them back.

It was very sad for me to see where Annie lives, but the main thing is she's happy with her lot at least for now.

So from what I have seen if you get a Filipina or Filipino to find you a place and then fix it up. You can live in Naga City as a single male not being a monger for 50000 pesos easily with money to save. That is correct isn't it? I get an army pension but I don't want to spend it all and I have backup funds. My medications are free from the VA. I'm not looking to be a monger just a live cheap. I smoke cigarettes and drink a lot of coffee but I don't drink booze or beer just soda. So I'm assuming if I want to make my budget 1100 or less in USD I can get a nice studio apartment or one bedroom in Naga City and live comfortably. Is this correct? Anyone who answers would be greatly appreciated thanks. Chris and Mel thanks for the informational videos😀😀😀

I can't believe how poor these people are. I watch other Philippine channels and haven't seen this level of living. Wow! Now I understand why so many Filipino's move to USA. I work with numerous Filipino's here in CA. They are smart and hard working people. I think about retiring in the Philippines. However, I've learned that it's pretty dangerous, crime, pollution, etc. I hear you need to carry a GUN in the area's you're traveling.

Thank Chris and Mel your last three videos have been a humbling experience. The phrase 'There but for the grace of God' understandably comes to mind, but as you put Chris, everyone is happy with smiles on their face. I have only recently come across your channel from Chris's balut challenge a couple of weeks ago and I would say I'm hooked. Love your British dry sense of humour and your inserts are pearlers, and you're pretty adept at editing. Look forward to going through your past videos and keep up the very realistic and open view of your part of the Philippines. I myself being Philippine born and raised for my first ten years in Manila before the family immigrating to Australia fifty years ago can't help but share your empathy for the filipino people. Keep up your great work.
