As someone who went from 600s to a 1000 and back to a 600. I think for the street and honing skills the 600 is perfect. I found myself being a bit more timid in the twistys on the 1000 and my skills stopped progressing. Once I got another 600 I feel way more confident in the twistys and putting power down mid corner and corner exit. Maybe I'm just a weenie tho Edit: side note all my bikes have been early to mid 2000s with no rider assists or modern improvements so take that as you will

@@bobfromlogistics the 1000cc I was referring to was a 04 zx10r that put down 165 to the rear wheel. I down sized down to a 90hp 03 cbr f4i and it's more relaxed controls and near half the power for me feels like a sweet spot.

I went from a Daytona 675 to a 2005 Zx10r, it was a great bike but similarly I didnt feel like I was able to use it on the road, I got rid and got a Sportster 1200 which was a big shift the other way, I now have a 2005 cbr600r and I’m much happier winding that out on the roads without fearing death like on the ninja

Went down from 1000 to 600 and am loving it. On track I can manhandle the 600, am way faster and having more fun, plus I save money on tires, brakes, etc. On the street, I’d take the litre bike, less buzzy, more torque - if you’re breaking the speed limit, do it right.

I went from a Honda CB600FA (Hornet) to a Kawasaki Z1000SX and although bigger and heavier the Z feels so well balanced and manoeuvrable, and so much more stable, relaxing and effortless at speed because I don’t need to wring it’s neck to overtake etc. Maybe also because the Hornet was a naked bike, it got knocked around more in the wind. Should add that before buying the Z I also bought a Suzuki M109R so compared with that, a 1000cc bike feels like a 650 would compared with a 1000.

If you're being honest with yourself a 600 is more than fast enough on the street Even short shifting a 600 barely cracking the throttle you are going to be twice as fast as any normal road car 600s have power to weight ratios that most cars would need around 500 horsepower to match just to put it in context.
@502Imcomingthrough
@502Imcomingthrough 2 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more, unless you're mad enough to do long trips on a sports bike the 600 class is most definitely more than enough for the street for sure, they're still a bit overpowered, they hit 60mph/100kph in 2 seconds, that's quicker than a litre bike but they're so much more fun in the twisties than the big bores, win win in my book

@@502Imcomingthrough i Have 2004 600rr, 2004 z1000 is slower but more comfortable... 600 is more then enough i never had problem keeping up with bigger bikes to 120mph on the street (sv1000, ducati 998, multistrada 1290 etc..) the trafic or the limit of the surface and rider makes bigger difference then extra hp that you rarely use.. i rather have lighter bike, that can rew 30% more and i need to be more involved if i want to go fast because i need to shift more often and make sure that iam in the best rew range... and power is not everything, just doing high speed acceleration runs gets boring on any bike (even busa after some time) the corners are the real enjoyment of riding a bike and if i can be faster in corners with 500cc then most people with liter superbikes... i dont really see much advantage having this much power but everyone enjoys something different... some people really love 50cc two stokes and they enjoy every second/minute of that bike... to me 600 has the best handling/speed ratio and i dont wanna sacriface handling for more speed if i allready have too much speed

My starter track bike was a 2010 ninja 650, yes boring bike but very great power level and forgiving on missing downshifts with a rather flat power band, the only downside is weight was a little bit of an issue but that was easy to fix by stripping it down if the stuff you don’t need on a bike for the track. Now I’m running a 2015 Zx6 and love it, I recently fully race prepped it and think it’s one of the better 600cc track bikes due to the extra punch it gives over some of the 600cc bikes. But it definitely is more for a skilled track rider (not claiming to be fast lol) to ride fast, so I couldn’t imagine a 1000.

The sole reason why I'm getting my license here in Sweden for a bike for the first time next year...is that I have calmed down with the way I drive. My sole goal with getting the license is that my dream have always been A Hayabusa (no turbo) ever since gen one. 4 kids later and lots of cooling down with street racing cars that I stopped. I feel mature enough. So going 600 first..then in the end...oh yes she will be mine...oh yes! She will be mine! I just have to own one and have it in my shop to drool over. Haha

Maturity is just a person being able to adjust to society better because of experience. And maybe a little less ' hey look at me ' gravings but i find that this depends on your personal character just as much as age. people still have the same kid inside of them and under the right circumstances the kid will come out. And i can tell you being on a motorcycle is the right circumstance for me! So if you where a dangerous driver than your probably still the same but just got bored of street racing so you can let it go now! A new spark ignites the same fire.. Maybe you do have more to live for now, good for you! But deep down there is a good reason why you still want that hayabusa..

Actually the cbr600rr's last sold version for the USA market weighs 435lbs wet and the 2017-2022 sc77(cbr1000"rr") weighs 424lbs. Close your mouth when you breath next time. My R6 has had its entire clutch replaced at 11k miles, and almost every friction seeing part has worn in under 6k miles, it has been on track for half its life. My cbr1000rr SP2(411lbs wet last weigh in) has quarter of its life on track and has a total of over 22k miles. Every friction seeing part has yet to have any issue, the entire bike is still within factory spec with no mechanical issues to show for it. Not only do I not need a clutch on it at 11k miles, but its valves(possibly the only SP2 in the world to see a valve job) were still in factory spec after I procrastinated in doing them at 20k instead of 16k. The R6 is vastly superior to the previous gen cbr600 just as a package for what it comes with which is why I bought it, but the Honda as a whole has been a more reliable machine. It is my idea on the matter, that Honda simply engineers their bikes better, with better materials than yamaha who CLEARLY cuts corners on production cost, that said if you actually want to learn how to be fast on a 1000, the sc77 platform *without a tune*, is very welcoming to the new 1000 rider on TRACK. 150-155whp, lots of torque, and a chassis that simply handles better than any other bike ive been on, with maybe the exception of the modern rsv4 factory(yes ive been on the bland bmw, the feel is similar except the honda doesnt fry ecu's every 5k miles.) The R6 is the primary track weapon simply because I learn more on it than any 1000 would teach me, and to be fair I want to sell my SP2 for an R7, but I would never bad mouth Honda, as they still make bikes that are better than what 95% of the USA market needs.

I don't know what it feels like to chase that "peak power" spot in rev range. My Bandit may only peak at 78 ft-lbs, but I get at least 60 ft-lbs at 2000RPM and get to keep that torque all the way to redline. Power, on tap, all the time... just not as much as these sport bikes.

Poor MV Agusta : - their F3 is used more times than I could count in the background of this video - MV is still making new F3s (now only in 800cc capacity) - you currently can buy F3s in 3 different varients in the Rosso, RR and RC (a limited edition launched last month) - the F3 has that triple engine Yammie loves... and it doesn't get an mention in the 600/1000 alternative section! Of course - all will be forgiven when you release a review of the latest version of the F3 and how it stands in this crazy world of 600cc squid bikes being replaced by twins. PS - I'm aware there's a review of the old F3 800 RC by Yammie (which if I recall correctly he said was his favourite bike at the time?).

I had a 1986 750cc gsxr with 4 carbs. That thing was terrifying. I let a whole bunch of guys from my dad's generation ride it and they were scared shitless. There's a point where the average rider doesn't have the mental and physical reaction speed for them. I was close in my early 20s. Brain and body were fast enough. But I'm no rossi. Just an average guy and even in my 30s it would have been too insane. I could still ride it but I'd only open it up on long straights. HP is a stupid comparison because of how long the Rev range is per gear and there's 6 of them. A large hp motor with low revs is far easier

Be careful when quoting high rpm’s for peak torque and hp numbers. A better way to look at it is % of the way through the rev range. The other consideration is torque at the wheel, rather than at the engine. You can hear a bike down so that even a low torque motor has highly torque at the wheel. When compared to their 2 cyl counterparts - The 600cc in-line 4’s tend to have shorter gearing and cater for the higher rpm’s, and they still go faster in the low gears because of those extra rpm’s. The limit with all bikes - esp. in the first few gears is how much torque it takes to wheelie. That is as much as you can put down at any given point. So a 600 can accelerate at the same rate as a 1000 up to a point (I would assume ~150km/hr ish and third gear) before it’s torque at the wheel is lower than the torque required to wheelie. At this point the 1000 walks away. The other big point - not many 600’s have rider aids. I would argue the 1000’s are a safer option for track work these days because of it. Weight - not much in it anymore. The feel of extra weight is mainly down to the extra rotational mass in the heavier duty drivetrain.
@Ledface117
@Ledface117 2 жыл бұрын
I would agree. the whole torque argument is a red herring. the only stat that matters is horsepower. the idea of a r7 having higher torque lower in the rpms somehow makes it faster than a r6 is misleading and not true. Like you said, its all about horsepower and how the bike is geared.

Revving out and hearing the sound is half the fun of 600s. Don't touch 4th until triple digits. I don't think I'd be using much passed 2nd gear on a liter bike, sounds boring. Engine braking with rev matching is another thing to think about. Cruising at 60 in 6th gear isn't going to give much opportunity there. Flipping into 2nd from 3rd at 80 starts slowing you down real quick. It's fun.

You're right. I really think the power delivery sounds bad on paper, but the experience itself is very much different. Revving it out all the way is super satisfying and you 100% get used to the power delivery the more you ride a 600. Love my r6

I´m planning on getting a 600, never was a bike guy, always a car. But my friend took me for a ride in a zx6r with firetong full exhaust and that hing sounds and feels absurd. I was looking for 1000cc bikes, and aparently the fist gear goes to 180km/hr (+100mph), so that doesn´t make sense to me. If i wanna hear the high reving engine i guess maybe 600 is the sweep spot right? I wanna be able to use some of it. Even the 600 was able to get 250km/hr preatty easy, 1000 we would probably be 3 ou 4th gear mid revs.

My brother has a 1999 zx9r I'll probably learn on. I figure it should be fine because its an entire 100cc below a liter. And where its older, It probably doesn't have much power. Plus don't want to get into bad habits of using rider aids, so definitely better to learn without abs/traction control or anything of that nature. I've ridden mountain bikes my whole life so it should be no problem for me.

Mountain bikes, or bicycles, are absolutely nothing like motorcycles. You’re dealing with hundreds of pounds of metal, over 400 pounds typically on 900cc’s. 100cc off of 1 liter is practically nothing. The 600cc zx6r I drove that was a 2,000 was nuts, I don’t think you realize how much power that actually is.
