As an infant until age six I had chronic, severe ear infections nearly every six weeks. It caused intense vertigo (and the resulting nausea) such that I would be bedridden with eyes closed for about two days each episode. I am eternally thankful we found an ENT specialist who diagnosed and corrected the issue by inserting some sort of drain device from my inner ear that I kept in for the course of a summer. (No swimming that summer.) After that was removed I was as healthy as a horse. I am telling you this so you know that even young children carry with them fond memories and lasting gratitude for healers such as yourself. I am approaching my golden years so no doubt my doctor has long since departed this earth, but I thank God for him every time I remember the misery of those ear infections. If ever you become discouraged, remember that you may have forever more improved the quality of life for someone. I was diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease which I am told tends to occur later in life. I certainly hope not!
@miriamsamaniego33353 жыл бұрын
Actually Meniere’s Disease is diagnosed in mostly younger people, but it it lifelong with no cure. If you still have Vertigo, you probably do have the disease. ENT’s usually prescribed a diuretic but recommended drinking a lot of water. Sounds counterproductive, but, the water will flush out more toxins that can settle in the middle ear fluid. It’s definitely a middle ear disease. I wish you the best!

I went over and got him and took him to a medical clinic I went to (I had quit the one he had went to some time ago). They came in and flushed his ears and I had never seen anything like what came out. No wonder he was in such pain and a big sigh of relief as it was immediate. Good job.

From 11-20 years of age, this looked like my ears about every 2 months. It was horrendous and so painful. I'm 58 and it was before audiologists, who could clean out the ear. The doctor would syringe my ear and then pack it with gauze soaked in antibiotic. I'll never forget the pain and when it was really bad the side of my face would swell up. Even worse, I'm Australian and I wasn't allowed to get my ears wet. But my case was so bad, I'd even get an infection from the moisture in the air in the tropical area where I lived. I would still get it now but I realised long ago that if I get medication to it as soon as it feels sore, it stops within a day.

Whenever I have an ear infection, I like to use a blow dryer to help with the pain? Is that just cause it is drying out the fluid or is something else going on when you do that?
@MeganC803 жыл бұрын
Hello, nurse here 🖐🏼 it’s doing 2 things yes if there is moisture it is drying it and the heat is soothing it. Just never use the setting on high or high heat. If you ever start to feel the slightest bit of dizziness immediately quit. But I myself do this especially when I get out the shower or home from swimming just to make sure everything is dried in there.

My daughter suffered from ear infections from under age 1 right into adulthood. I had to stop bottles when she was 11 months because the Dr.'s told us it was causing the infections. Wrong. :/ We weren't able to get tubes; not sure what the criteria was/is but obviously she didn't meet it (we think her being tiny, female and an exceptionally beautiful child was somehow a factor against her getting them) they kept saying, "no, just take the antibiotics." She was on antibiotics roughly 10-12 x a year the first 5-7 yrs and then progressively less as she got older. She learned not to get her ears wet any more than necessary. Problem is she still gets ear infections at age 31 if she goes swimming, takes a bath and gets her ears wet, etc. It's not really warm here in Northern Alberta, Canada so you always risk a cold or something just getting wet but ... it isn't right she should suffer so much for so long. When she was young, we took her to so many dr.'s and no real improvement. I know she's had her hearing tested for her job, she's a Journeyman Millwright RSE (Industrial Mechanic) and works shutdowns at oil, gas or electrical plants and the odd mine, lumber or pulp & paper facility. No one ever suggested she have her ears cleaned out like this when infected. Should that be something she looks at in future if the problem persists or worsens? Is there anything you can recommend that might actually help? She's tried ear plugs, even the specially made for you ones ... I honestly can't even think of all the things we've tried over the years. I think one of the hardest parts of watching this unfold was seeing her dream of diving crushed like a watermelon dropped from an airplane. She did very well at swimming and diving and really wanted to do more but was rarely able to make it through an entire set of lessons (a Level they called it here). They often gave her the credit and moved her forward but it happened so often over such a long time that she eventually gave up. Ear infections hurt! I don't blame her but I know how sad it made her as a child. If I can learn anything that helps her daughters (age 2 and newborn), then asking questions is the right thing to do. Her 2 yr old had her first earache a few weeks ago from a very windy day when she kept taking her hat off :-( kids will be kids. It was heartbreaking not being able to fix it although it didn't become infected. I just worry that the problem may develop in one or both of her children. With Covid we haven't been able to take the eldest swimming much, I think only once has she been in a pool. I really don't want to watch another very loved child suffer. Very interesting videos you post sir. I had no idea such problems even really existed. Of course I knew some folks get ear wax but haven't really had to deal with it myself. Daughter has regular checkups for health and hearing loss but I honestly had no idea that your specialty dealt with ear infections as well. I think I will tell her to talk to the hearing testing personnel the next time she has to go and see what advice they can offer. Keep up the great job!

I cannot emphasize this enough: THIS. IS. EXCRUCIATING. When I was 13, I was abducted and taken to Mexico (I'm American) where I developed an infection in my ear. Kidnappers aren't big on doctors so I was not treated until I was finally home nearly two weeks later, arriving home via a transcontinental flight which was terribly painful as well. When the pediatrician saw me, they said my ear was 100% shut from the swelling and they'd have to put a wick in it. This is essentially cotton compressed into a capsule-type pill shape and put into the ear canal. When you put drops in the ear, the cotton absorbs it and this allows the drops to go all the way into the ear canal. Ear drops couldn't go into my ear at all because it was so swollen that it was watertight, and only a wick would allow the drops to enter. The doctor said they'd put the wick in and I THOUGHT they did but found out later they'd really just laid it on the outside of my ear. They quickly realized they couldn't place it and needed help. Anyway, they took me to the ENT upstairs and I THOUGHT I'd already had it put in halfway and was going up only so they could finish. So I wasn't expecting pain. They put it in for real and I screamed so loudly that a security guard came running up from downstairs - in a HOSPITAL BUILDING, not like a house where noise travels. Staff came running thinking a doctor was being killed. The pain was unreal. Swelling this severe is an actual nightmare.

That's really something! I have a question about your process and I promise I am not being critical, I really want to know! I've noticed that you will sometimes bypass the buildup closer to the outer ear and instead focus on the inner ear impaction. Is there a specific reason why you do it that way? I know everyone has their own style, I just wanted to know what prompted you to approach it this way. Thanks!
@jennifertaylor97754 жыл бұрын
I know he's mentioned before that his first priority has to be to clear the eardrum as that's where wax buildup can do most damage. Also, particularly if the patient has a low tolerance threshold, that's where he must spend most time. 🤓

From what I've heard/seen from Mr. Neel, the stuff closer to the outside of the ear is not likely to have any trouble migrating out on its own, as well as some wax remaining in the ear being good for ear health in general

Hey Brandy, thanks for your question. I always like to tackle the main occlusion/blockage to relieve the clients symptoms first. Once completed and if it is safe to do so, I can then mop up the rest. @thewaxwhisperer4 жыл бұрын
@@munirahbakar4123 You answered it for me! Exactly for that reason. The ideal is to keep the procedure as short as possible as the procedure itself has inherit risks. As a result, we want to deal with the area causing the issue first. Sometimes however we need to deal with surface debris/wax to help us remove the main blockage, but whenever we can deal with it straight away and direct, it’s best. Once this has been done, even if we can’t continue with the procedure for what ever reason, at least their symptoms have been alleviated .
