What is it about the Mustangs that turns you off? I love the tone of the Jaguar, but want the tiny package of the Mustang because it's such a fun size (and matches my bass).

No controls on The Ventures model because Don Wilson's strumming style would always brush against the switches. Man I would love to get my hands on The Ventures model Jazzmaster, or the strat from their 90s line.

I totally agree with you about the tortoiseshell Fender’s using these days. It’s not bad-I like it on white or blonde guitars-but the ‘60s-style tortoiseshell looks better, and it’s probably not being made any more.

That Jag is sweet. The bridge pickup height, what do you set yours to normally, or just screw by ear?
@60CycleHumcast4 жыл бұрын
I eye ball it and then adjust by ear, i know some people bust out a ruler but I get good results doing it without.

@flapjack4134 жыл бұрын
Strangle switch should have a .003uF cap. Try soldering in a pair of alligator clips, and messing around with different values if you don't like how the .003 sounds. :) Also, GOOD CALL ON THE TORT!!!! I've been saying the same thing for years. There was a guy on the OSG forum who figured out the recipe for vintage tort, but it's totally unaffordable. Unless I were buying it as a replacement for a vintage instrument, I couldn't justify paying over $200 for a pickguard. I get the high price, the R&D was very dangerous, they're all one of a kind, etc, I just couldn't justify it on a new guitar.

Great guitars, great playing. Any tips on learning how to play in this style? I really like how influenced you are by surf music when you improvise and I'd love to incorporate it into my playing
@60CycleHumcast4 жыл бұрын
Minor scales with lots of palm muting into a drippy reverb. A big part of learning a surf style is unlearning modern guitar technique and leaning into playing styles that predate Hendrix style playing.
@fairviewfar22624 жыл бұрын
@@60CycleHumcast thank you for taking the time to reply! I'm gonna go practice my scales some more hahaha. Your videos have inspired me to look up a bunch of drippy reverb pedals

Ryan, if you think you might be Mustang-curious (but not wanting to drop big bucks on it) , you might want to look up the Ivy ISMF 200 on Amazon.
@blairmichaelhogan45024 жыл бұрын
Holy shit I just looked this up...$157 CAD. Had no idea these existed. I have a squier mustang but this thing still looks interesting with the Jazzmaster style bridge. Mine is a bitch to keep set up and in tune. Thanks!

No prob. Amazon's magic algorithm threw it into my "you might be interested in" choices. If I wasn't looking at having to buy a new roof, I might already have one ordered.

Guitars are funny things. I love and own a Jazzmaster and Mustang but can't quite see the appeal of Jaguars. The Jazzmaster is quite hi fi sounding but for that 1962-1967 low fi garage sound the Mustang just nails them. Reat little singer songwriter guitar too. T doesn't ring like my Telecaster or have the power of an SG but its such a cool little guitar just plugged in.

Spitfire tort. It’s the only modern tort that looks just like the vintage stuff but you are indeed correct that it’s expensive. But Spitfire cracked the code. I posted regularly when he was doing r&d posts on OSG, his worked for years to get it right.
