Here's one that never gets played enough, even though it did finish in theBillboard year end Top 100 for 1968 (barely, at #98): The American Breed's "Bend me, Shape Me." One of the few songs that is better in the verses than the chorus, with the short instrumental sections actually the most memorable part.

I LOVE "Western Union"! I remember hearing it on the radio when I was a small child. I have 5 older siblings (the oldest was 13 when I was born) so I heard a LOT of popular music as a baby & toddler. It's funny. when I'm listening to "Golden Oldies On Demand" (my 15-year-old daughter loves oldies) and a song strikes a "happy chord" in me, I look at the year...inevitably, it's either 1967 or 1968...when I was from 2 to 4. Heck: my all-time favorite song is, was, and probably ever will be is "To Sir, With Love" by Lulu. My brother told me that, when that song came on, I'd always run straight to the stereo.

I'm glad that I was born in the mid-50s and got to be a part of the explosive development of music that happened in the late 50s-70s when I was young. It was a mix of everything before and brand new music. My daughter is jealous of me having experienced this. And I think it has shaped me in my broad view and experience of music today. When you were a teenager in Europe in the 60s and interested in music, it was the radio we listened to. And I listened a lot to "Radio Luxemburg" which played new music from the world late at night. I had a small mono earphone in my ear so not disturb my sisters who were sleeping in the same room. Most of the time I fell asleep quickly because it was so late, school was waiting the next day. I was 13 years old when I heard "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" for the first time. It was with a group called The Hounds and that song has stayed with me through the years and still remain in my head with text and only good memories with positive experiences. I listened to The Ventures and The Shadows a lot and still do today. Another group like The Kinks with songs Lola, Sunny Afternoon, Waterloo Sunset, Come Dancing was also important songs that many forget.

I’m into the Easy Listening music genre but loved the 1960s. During that time I was in the single digits as a kid. There was a tremendous amount of music during that time that which became great easy listening music. I didn’t get into some serious music listening until about 1975. Now, even though it’s the 2020s, I still love the songs from the 1960s. Some of those songs are still relevant today. Petula Clark, Jackie DeShannon, and others are so precious.

@@davidmiller9485 Thanks for taking the time to answer. I myself was born in Harbor City CA and lived my first year and a half in Downey CA then in Buena Park in Orange County. Our home in BP was in a neighborhood just across the street from Knott’s Berry Farm. At age 10 my dad moved our family out to the country in rural Arkansas. I missed Buena Park and the big city for a few months until I realized I was in the middle of a green shady natural paradise with unlimited miles around me to explore. My eyes had quit burning and my lungs quit hurting and the smell of the woods smelled so much better than the hot asphalt and dirty exhaust of the Los Angeles area. And the peace and quiet punctuated by the songs and calls of birds was rest to my ears which had been assaulted for 10 solid years by the constant roar of traffic and the near constant wailing of emergency vehicles. My best to you David. Be safe in this increasingly hostile world. It’s only going to get worse before it gets better. There’s real trouble ahead - it’s gonna get bumpy for a few years.

Hard to fit ANY phenomenon into a single decade. 60s produced long songs, and FM radio and concerts using the jazz improvisation, as Hendrix and Carlos Santana embodied (both riffing at length on others' songs, including some jazz greats). Smokey Robinson's 60s works were objects of grabbing and running with it by others. Garage bands were a SoCal surf music phenomenon, since 50's end, and FEW of you have heard the true surf music arising from those jazz guitarists innovators (Les Paul, the Stratocasters, etc. electric guitars). THAT genre, quickly extending vie guitar stores as far as Colorado and Western Europe BEFORE teen-girl-swoon beatles even emerged from Liverpool. Gerry & Pacemakers and other Liverpool bands had many hits. Northern Ireland's Van Morrison began in "Them" then perhaps following his manager's advice to imitate Jagger until his SECOND breakout , "Brown-eyed girl" proved he should follow his OWN creative explosion into the Mystic-folk Astral Weeks and Moondance, both of the 1960s, into evolutions still not known to young musicians of the present. He's still scat singing and rockin' into his 80s though he lost all his command of upper vocal register before most of us were born.
