It's funny. when I'm listening to "Golden Oldies On Demand" (my 15-year-old daughter loves oldies) and a song strikes a "happy chord" in me, I look at the year...inevitably, it's either 1967 or 1968...when I was from 2 to 4. Heck: my all-time favorite song is, was, and probably ever will be is "To Sir, With Love" by Lulu. My brother told me that, when that song came on, I'd always run straight to the stereo.

I'm glad that I was born in the mid-50s and got to be a part of the explosive development of music that happened in the late 50s-70s when I was young. It was a mix of everything before and brand new music. My daughter is jealous of me having experienced this. And I think it has shaped me in my broad view and experience of music today. When you were a teenager in Europe in the 60s and interested in music, it was the radio we listened to. And I listened a lot to "Radio Luxemburg" which played new music from the world late at night. I had a small mono earphone in my ear so not disturb my sisters who were sleeping in the same room. Most of the time I fell asleep quickly because it was so late, school was waiting the next day. I was 13 years old when I heard "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" for the first time. It was with a group called The Hounds and that song has stayed with me through the years and still remain in my head with text and only good memories with positive experiences. I listened to The Ventures and The Shadows a lot and still do today. Another group like The Kinks with songs Lola, Sunny Afternoon, Waterloo Sunset, Come Dancing was also important songs that many forget.

This very day, the RED Chinese are vivisecting prisoners without anesthetic, to sell their organs. When nobody cares about the scores of millions of people communism has killed, We truly _are_ on the eve of destruction.

Here in Western Australia, I listen to a community radio station instead of the big commercial stations, and still hear all of these regularly with the exception of 96 tears. As such, I think their playlists mostly from the 50's, 60's and 70's is of music with minimal royalty payments required. Most of their presenters are also retired broadcast people that donate their time to keep busy doing something they know and love.

Speaking of monsters, there was the Monster Mash. And Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah, Shaving Cream and They're Coming to Take Me Away. Tie Me Kangaroo Down and quit a bit by Shel Silverstien. He was the genius behind many of the lyrics associated with Dr Hook and the Medicine Show. Puff, The Magic Dragon also comes to mind. And Joni Mitchell was a genius writer of the 60s and 70s. Paul Simon as well, and Bob Dylan and Harry Chapin as well. These were the people I grew up with.

The 60s were amazing, rock & roll exploded and mixed with other genres and gave birth to some incredible vocalists and groups. I still go back and listen to some really early classics, like: Red Rubber Ball, Just Dropped In, He’s So Fine, Walk Away Renee, Johnny Angel, Bread and Butter, and so many more great forgotten classics…but I still listen, lol.

It seemed to be one spirit that came over the world und united people more than ever before and in following decades.
@briseboy Жыл бұрын
Hard to fit ANY phenomenon into a single decade. 60s produced long songs, and FM radio and concerts using the jazz improvisation, as Hendrix and Carlos Santana embodied (both riffing at length on others' songs, including some jazz greats). Smokey Robinson's 60s works were objects of grabbing and running with it by others. Garage bands were a SoCal surf music phenomenon, since 50's end, and FEW of you have heard the true surf music arising from those jazz guitarists innovators (Les Paul, the Stratocasters, etc. electric guitars). THAT genre, quickly extending vie guitar stores as far as Colorado and Western Europe BEFORE teen-girl-swoon beatles even emerged from Liverpool. Gerry & Pacemakers and other Liverpool bands had many hits. Northern Ireland's Van Morrison began in "Them" then perhaps following his manager's advice to imitate Jagger until his SECOND breakout , "Brown-eyed girl" proved he should follow his OWN creative explosion into the Mystic-folk Astral Weeks and Moondance, both of the 1960s, into evolutions still not known to young musicians of the present. He's still scat singing and rockin' into his 80s though he lost all his command of upper vocal register before most of us were born.

@briseboy haha, you're no youngster... written by someone who experienced the era and appreciates the talented artists who blazed new directions in sound and composition. Few realize how the development of the technology and the marketing of high fidelity stereo equipment satiated the public's ever expanding desire to have access to popular music.

I'm older than my wife and her friends... We wee out one New Years eve and got to arguing over music. I made the m a bet that most of their favorite music was from people from the 60s and 70s, they are from the 80s, If the song they like was from a band or singer from my time, 60s and 70s, I got a point... If it was from someone in the 80s they got a point... I won hands down... It was no contest... the 60s and 70s were the pinnacle of great music... throw in the 50s and you have the perfect trifecta... No other three decades will ever come close...
